Dilemma: Need to cancel account but too much gold to store in bank

Due to RL time restraints I don't have the time to play any more, so I need to cancel my account (with intentions to start it back up eventually when I have more time). I'd like to have that money available to me when I start back up... but.. I dont have enough room across my 6 characters to store it all in my banks (along with the items I need to save as well).

Obviously this comes down to the fundamental issue with modern UO, no 10m checks, no checkbook, etc. But for the time being I need to figure out a solution... Anyone have any ideas?

I'm on Napa Valley btw.

It's a little risky, but you could buy an item of higher value to store instead - preferably a rare whose value would only go up...

Some commodities might also work well. For example...

Option #1: one 1mil check is one storage slot...
Option #2: you could buy 60,000 diamonds worth around 200gp each and store 12mil in that same storage slot.

Of course, you'll loose some value when cashing those diamonds back in, but not the full 11 mil left behind under option #1.

yeah, the only thing that worries me about that is.. items in UO lose their value super quick. Just look at doom arties 3-4 years ago; they were 3-4x their current value. Same goes for pretty much everything in this game. =/

I've heard of people that came back after being away some time to find their beetles empty. But I've also heard of people that came back and everything they had on their beetles was intact. Sooooo...

Some things you could buy that probably won't lose their value: original lieutenant of the royal guard sash (with no durability), blaze cu sidhe, any of the original items that the replicas are based on, you could also take a chance and buy a few good quality dread warhorses, if you are that wealthy. They probably won't lose their value, but as with all things UO, it is a risk.

Another now rare pet you could buy - highly rated greater dragons with over 1000 hp and over 125 stamina (I would think at least 150 to make it worth it).

I think putting the stuff in beetles is the safest bet. I have beetles on most of my chrs. I've stopped playing UO a couple times and never lost anything in them. Maybe just make sure they're wonderfully happy when you log out.

If you have a friend that continues to play that you are in contact with, you can always store high quantities of gold on a vendor at their house.

If not, I recommend tossing 'em into older rares / server births. Typically go up in price, so it could be considered as an investment.

you could also blow 100m easy on 5 transfer tokens - those never seem to diminish in value - if anything they keep creeping up over the years. then resell when you come back. not sure the availability of those on napa tho.

I had no idea that logging off while riding a blue beetle with items in it could be risky.

There really is a risk of losing items this way ?

I can confirm that as long you log out riding the beetle, its there when u log back in. BUT YOU HAVE TO RIDE IT!

If u got packies/beetles filled with items and dont ride them - they will NOT auto log.

I closed down one acc with few chars riding beetle, and its all safe there (checked during the free return).

So - that gives 125 items on char + 125 items on beetle + 125 items in bank.

Can you open another account as a storage account? Just find out if a short time active account stays in system records, I've had stuff from 8 year closed accounts still be there on the characters and in the bank. Didn't have beetles back then.

I have come back after a very long time of not playing and the stuff in my beetles was still there. I was sitting on them and logged out of course. No problems at all with stuff just vanishing from a beetle because you don't log in.

You have 6 or 7 slots on every shard. You can pay transfer tax (token) to spread your stuff across world.
Get 7slot+20% storage combo and HS booster to have 175 items bank limit.

I closed an account for two years. Placing many items in bonded beetles.When i reactivated my acount all beetles were there with all items.

I can create a character on Napa and hold it for ya. I get lots of lag for some reason, so do not play on Pac, Napa and Sonoma. For some reason LA is fine for me. But seriously I'll be more than willing to hold some for you.

I'm holding about 10mil for a friend who recently took a vacation. Created a Sonoma character just to hold 10mil he couldn't fit in the bank. I have no problem.

It all depends on the actual amount you are working with.

If it's only slightly above 125m, then hold part in bank, part in backpack.

If it is way above that amount, bag it up 120m at a time and have a friend hand you a bag at a time and store in each character's bank on the account (if you don't duel client, you'll need a trusted person, one that doesnt have the words "thief" in their stratic's signature, for sure)....

Also, if the gold is currently on a vendor, then just log into each character on your account and pull the most gold each bank will hold off the vendor, then move to the next character....

I would be wary of the beetle thing OR the investment in any item idea.


Even transfer tokens fluctuate and by the time you come back, we might all be on one server ANYWAY , then you'd be really f'd.
