1 - Trick or treating was brilliant its first time out. But it has really, really gotten old. Please don't just change the shade on the special treats and give them a new adjective, like you did for the last two years. I think Trick or Treating is great because it allows any character to participate... but precious little effort has gone into making it different each year.

2 - If we have another "kill-the-foolio-foozle" quest (aka the Grim Reaper), allow random award of the nifty item, not just to the top damager. Granted, top damager should still have the best odds, but don't make it exclusively for the camping pointjuicers to get the items.

3 - Lose the pumpkins. They aren't stackable, so not many folks want them, even the black ones.

4 - How about a costume party? See what kind of cool costumes folks can come up with using the UO in-game items, giving awards?

5 - How about some in-game event, like Neiria taking over a dungeon and the players have to hack through waves of undead for the final showdown? (In a dungeon, though. PLEASE no more city invasions, you've played that card to death in UO)

Since they seem to be into alchemy right now...

How about a trick or treat prize for the GM beggars that will transform say 500 candy corn into 50 gold ingots, 500 licorice into 50 shadow ingots, etc.

And the best one of all...500 valorite ingots into 50 relic fragments.

I do hope they have something good planned.

Incorporating some other skills would be good too: stealing, detect hidden, forensics, taste ID, remove trap, Item ID, tracking, begging (again).
Let the poor souls have a chance at something adventurous.

Halloween is my favorite holiday.... so all you nay sayers just go bark up another tree.

I LOVE Halloween in UO the last few years. Trick or Treating is a HOOT! I like to see what odd things I'll turn into and I like taking screenies of the different ones. So pooey to all you nay sayers.... and complainers.

As for something new for halloween, I wouldn't mind a few red lanterns this year... Or maybe a black cat deco item... that would be fun...

And I enjoy the spooks at the graveyards. Maybe this time though how about having the NPC's in town turn to zombies during the nights... could be fun...

There are dozens of things..... I know they will come up with something awesome....

My beggar can't wait!

camping pointjuicers

Buwhahahahaha! :hahaha::hahaha::hahaha:

My favorite term of the week right there. Couldn't agree more with the highest damager crap. Powergamer's delight is what I call that garbage. Note I can put together a camping pointjuicer at a moments notice and be garbage just like the rest of them.

I'd like to see costumes you can use in fel that turn you into the monster you put on with their abilities. It would be a hoot to turn into rat mage and hang out in despise.

How do you feel about spiderwebs?
any good deco is good deco :D

*works furiously on her beggar to be ready this year*

also love the random deco drops from killing bad (but not ridiculously tough) stuffs that come out to play at halloween - like the ghoul statues the first year - the vampire bats last year. All really cool and was something any player could do without having to be the toughest on the block :)

Yeppers, love DECO...so hope they add something for Halloween. Black
cat statues would be cool...anything spooky related would be nice.

I'd love to see something like what we had last year with the Skeletal Lich except with Demons of some type. I'd kill for a Demon slayer talisman like the Conjurer's Trinket, or even a Demon Slayer spellbook like the Conjurer's Grimoire.

I don't want them to drop the pumpkins, but I prefer them have our names on them than the devs, etc. Each year I have new characters and would like them to have their own named pumpkin. Besides, it's not really a big deal is it to have pumpkins in the middle of nowhere?

I do agree they should have the "good" loot distributed better and stop rehueing and renaming things and calling them new. It would also be great if they had a special vendor with costumes on it or allowed chefs to make some spooky foods.

eta /signed on the black cat statues :)

Costume necklaces or gates, you did it on Shard of the Dead, can we have a production polymorph item? Make a large range of creatures, the lower end drops or gifts being mongbats and slimes, all the way up to a shadow lord maybe? Would be wonderful for the RP community.

Masks? A series of skull, orc, tribal masks with interesting names and properties? No good properties, but fun, huge negative stats maybe?

The only cat statue I've seen is the one that is at the Atlantic EM's reward hall. It looks like a fat cat I guess, but not black.

I'm trying to think of what makes my halloweens memorable and I'm not coming up with much. The night starts with an elvis costume and jello shots. Things get pretty fuzzy after that. :p. How about craftable costumes? It might be a little late for it this year, but it would be awesome to dress my toon in a sweet elvis unitard. Seems like the standbys are convict, cop, French maid, batman, caveman.

Well they do have that ring that makes you polymorph into a goblin.
Perhaps some other rings or earrings that can make you morph into other non-traditional creatures would be good.

The Cat Statuette idea sounds like a winner to me!

Here's some other random ideas:

1 - Witches Cauldron Plan A - A lockable item that will let the player generate one random potion per day at 85-100 Alchemy skill (random)

2 - Witches Cauldron Plan B - A community collection for players to collect and deposit items (slith's tongue, serpent venom, etc), at the end of the event, all contributors get a backpack drop depending on how their shard did.

3 - Scarecrow - Same as the fencing dummy, but can be animated using Animate Dead spell one time a day, to generate a golem-strength scarecrow.

4 - The Headless Horseman -- An EM rides around, distributing various goodies, or he could be a monster roaming the paths of Britannia (aka campers wont prosper) randomly.

5 - Bobbing for Apples -- Pretty much the same kind of thing as the dice cup, it just randomly determines if you got an apple or not. Your character's dexterity and current state of hunger gives you mods.

6 - Bone Craftables -- limited to Halloween time.. turned off after a certain point.

7 - Trick or Treat Bag -- Automatically ups your chances of getting a special item while Trick or Treating while equipped... but also ups your chances of the instant death trick.

8 - Halloween Tracks -- For Dawn's music box. Something creepy and spooky.

9 - Necromancers (with negative karma) get a luck bump during October. Paladins (with positive karma) get a penalty. We can flip flop the arrangement at Christmas.

10 - Some Halloween Themed Quests. Not big overall story arcs, but things like robbing graves, setting spirits to rest, rescuing villagers from werewolves, that kind of thing.

A few thoughts ...

1 - Trick or Treating code exists, adding a slightly tweaked list of collectable rewards is relatively easy.

2 - now that imbuing is around, the devs need to be careful about adding farmable event rewards that can be turned into relic fragments. It's a recipe for unpleasant anti-social behavior. Fire ant AI and raptor swarming adds some fun new tricks that halloween creatures can show off.

3 - pumpkins are, again, code that exists and can be easily turned on/off. No reason not to have it. If anything I would encourage more code that can be just turned on in future seasons (year-marked items are especially nice for that).

4 - the problem with costume parties with rewards is that you have subjective judging. The flamewars will be very unpleasant. Personally, I'd leave that to player-run events.

5 - having some giant spawn somewhere is something of a tradition. It would be nice to see some of the been-here-for-ages champs start to get a role in fiction.

...

As it's harvest season, UO could really use "year-marked" wine bottles (or age-marked like parrots)

Personally I would love to see some of the old graveyards permanently upgraded with the SA mini-champ system.

I've often always thought lumberjacks should run the risk of haunted trees during Hallowe'en ... or The Blair Witch :)

I don't mind most of the things we've gotten. I trick or treat a little, I have tried to kill nasties now and then, I have picked pumpkins and tried to find whatever special creatures.

T&T is simple, just add more things as you go, take other things out it doesn't hurt anything and you somewhat feel like you got something out of the event.

The monster killer events I'm on the fence about -- the devs like to make uber monsters that are tough... but then don't really give a reward for everyone.

!! I'd say every attacker of the event creatures should get option points (like spring cleaning tokens) -- you get some # based on your actual fighting and some random number based on things like "style", "panache", "likability", "darkness", "dorkness", and other activities. You find dressed up folks that are sprinkled through the bars and taverns (and a few special locations) and you can use your points for various things like "I helped kill a Reaper and all I got was this stupid t-shirt", peacock pants, ghost light, etc etc. Perhaps the top damagers get short term titles and extra points that are useable with the "special location" turn ins.

Mostly deco items and small fun things, but a couple of random collectibles here and there to spice things up. I think that would be lots of fun... plus perhaps the tickets would have your character's name and information to make them collectibly interesting:

"A ghoulish ticket for Dawn of 300 points"
"An evil ticket for Dawn, Dorkess of the moment, of 1000 points"
"A vile ticket for Charlie, Swisher of Darkness, of 850 points"

If there is a title on the ticket, the owner can use the ticket to get the title for a limited time. I could see that being fun.

Pumpkins -- honestly I'd like to be able to cook special pumpkin pies with them, or perhaps pumpkin cakes in the shape of characters ;)

All the little 'random event' things just kinda make it a mixed bag for me: if I had time to sit around trying to find the spawn of the "rabbit of the blair witche" I probably wouldn't be that impressed with whatever it gave me anyway.

That's a brilliant idea. I would enjoy seeing a vampiric plague spread throughout Sosaria where a leader vampire (boss) can raise new vampires by roaming city streets at night. All mobs would be relatively tolerable to characters of all skill levels/classes, and maybe the rewards can be unique clothing woven by the undead worn by male/female vampires and other hell raised spawn.

The leader vampire could contain a special replica or artifact that can be obtained similarly to the scythe in the past, and can turn players into vampires (or vampire form) which can inflict life degeneration during daylight hours and could last for a few hours.

It would also be neat to have unique tameables during halloween that can be tamed by anyone (requires no taming skill) such as special black cats, ghosts and zombies that have no attributes/overall game play benefits aside from just having fun walking around with.

There's so many good ideas to think about, I wish I could implement them all!! muahahaha

I have really enjoyed the halloween events the past few years. Given their popularity, I woulld like to see the devs use things like trick or treating to test expanding the food system. Things like:

licorice: +2 MR for 1/2 hour
candy corn: +20 mana for 1/2 hour
Pumkin Pizza: +10% damage for 1 hour
Carmel fish steak: -5% phys damage taken for 1 hour
Green rock candy: + 5% to poision resist cap for 1/2 hour

And lets us unravel candy

Other than that it seems like a good opportuntiy to interact with the newly discovered lands. Maybe a little role reversal: In Ter Mur the npcs trick or treat you. Give them stuff you got from trick or treating in Sosaria and get loyalty points. A good way for non fighters to get up there in rating.

I'm with Connor. I would like to see a monster that drops Conjurer's Trinkets or Grimoires again or a Demon Slayer variant. I think that fits nicely with both Halloween and SA.

I love the cat statue idea, the zombie NPCs (Just hue their skin green/yellow and have it be a mini event to 'cure' them), and definately like the idea of a daemon slayer grimoire!

I'd love to see them take advantage of the FX in the enhanced client too.. How ahout doing a house add on thats a black cauldron with a dry-ice-like particle effect and call it a Witch's Cauldron? (it could be punch a la the egg nog, maybe with a 40% chance to polymorph the drinker into a random monster)

Halloween just plain needs to be fun! :danceb:

I'm sure whatever they do Halloween WILL be fun...

Yes!! And have him set fire to some houses and you have to get a lot of people together to throw buckets of water to put it out! Or maybe make him a summonable boss!!

We are plotting and scheming for Halloween. As usual, I'm not going to give any spoilers but you guys hopefully won't be disappointed with what's brewing. We always love to hear what crazy ideas you come up with. It doesn't mean we're going to implement them but it can't hurt to know where your minds are at!

You know what I'd like to see.......

Added to graveyards...

GM T-Hunters with GM cartography and Lockpicking being able to "dig" up graves..... and if they try enough a unque coffin pops up.. and like a Treasure map it needs to be "picked" like a level 6 and inside is loot but with the coffin a bunch of monsters spawn..... LL's, Ancient Liches, Maybe the skeletal Lich perhaps even a skeletal dragon.... and then inside is good loot and a replica of the coffin for deco..... perhaps in deed form but would be inside the coffin....

This would give THunters something to do....

Or perhaps everyone in the THunters party gets a replica of the coffin in their pack when the coffin pops up... Or maybe there is a 2% chance of there being a deed for the coffin on the spawn that pops with the coffin as well as one inside the coffin...

I think that would be fun as all get out.
