Just a thought...you gave us ultima 9 with the 7th anni box set....How about giving us some of the prevoius ultimas 1-8 in a BIG BOX set for collectors with the release of the next Stigyian abyss??? and cash in on UO and maybe draw some peeps back in with the retro bundle!!!!!!

Thats gotta be a draw to get peeps who have played the old series or some of the old series back to UO!! AND also give current players access to the old labels..

Not saying nail it on 1-8 but hey even a couple of the old titles in the new box set wil only make EA money and UO players happy!!

Try finding a copy of Ultima Collection to buy online instead. No reason to rerelease it again when it still shouldn't be too hard to find.

I'd rather see the "Worlds of Ultima" and "Ultima Underworld" games packed in, both because they're incredibly rare now, and because one of the Underworld games is obviously actually RELATED to the expansion.

Brilliant!

Hell, do all of it.

Ultima 1-9, Worlds of Ultima, Underworld. (you could probably fit all these onto one DVD rom.)

All boxed with SA, and competitively priced.

Retro gamers dream and would totally pull people in if given a 1 month free trial.

Wouldn't pull in as many as you'd think.. Ultima is a very widely unknown series overall.. the majority of people that would want such a pack either already play UO or played in the past and quit already. You would get a decent number of box sales yes, but very few used trial subscriptions and even less permanent subscribers.

Did they ever port Ultima I, II, or III over to the PC? They were all originally developed for the Apple ][+ and Apple //e. I've seen a port of Ultima IV, but the graphics are so old, many players would be turned off even though it's one of the best games of all time.

Yes, as part of the Ultima Collection release a while back... although you really have to tweak a few things to get the older Ultimas to work.

I have the collectors edition and I've never been able to get it to work, on any computer. Oh, I've managed to slow it down, but it wouldn't recognize my keyboard.

And Pentagram for 8.

There are also patches for a few of the earlier ones to properly add music, and a windows version of 4 with VGA graphics out there.

Your best friend for running those old programs under WinXP with sound.

VDMSound LaunchPad Shell Extension v1.0.1.1 (BETA 5)

What does it require?

- VDMS 2.0.4 "Update 2". Remember that LaunchPad is a graphical front-end to
the VDMSound 2.0.4 backend.

** IMPORTANT ** IMPORTANT ** IMPORTANT ** IMPORTANT ** IMPORTANT **

Before LaunchPad can work you must install VDMSound (from the VDMSound
Download page):

1) Download and install VDMSound 2.0.4
VDMSound 2.0.4 Download
- Double-click on VDMSound-2.0.4-WinNT-i386.msi to install
2) Download and install VDMSound 2.0.4 "Update 2"
VDMSound.2.0.4.update2.zip
- Unzip directly over the VDMSound 2.0.4 files, typically residing
in C:\Program Files\VDMSound; answer "yes" when prompted to overwrite
3) Download and install LaunchPad 1.0.1
http://vdmsound.sourceforge.net/files/VDMSLaunchPad.v1.0.1.1.zip
- run uninstall.bat to uninstall any previous verions of LaunchPad
- log off or reboot, then log on again (as Administrator)
- run install.bat
- enjoy

What does it do?

It extends the Windows shell in the following way:
- Adds notion of "VDMSound shortcuts" which behave like regular
shortcuts and can be fully customized like .pif files, but much
better, since in the "Properties" box you now have VDMSound
emulation settings to play with as well.
- "Run with VDMS" for .com/.bat/exe files with new behaviour;
it lets you automatically create VDMSound shortcuts in pretty much
the same way Windows lets you create .pif files from .exe/.com
files.

How do I use it?

Several ways.
- through the "Properties" pane on VDMSound shortcuts
- through the "Run with VDMS" menu on .exe/.bat/com files or
VDMSound shortcut files
- by drag'n'dropping .exe/.com/.bat files onto existing VDMSound
shortcuts

A typical user scenario would be:
- right-click on a .exe/.bat/.com for the first time
- choose "Run with VDMS" ( ** IMPORTANT ** choose the one with the icon,
the one without the icon is the standard VDMS 2.0.4 "Run with VDMS",
whereas the one *with* the icon is the new "Run with VDMS" that will
replace the old one in the next VDMS version.
- Follow the wizard, do as you like. At the end you can check one or two
of the check boxes, which will create one or two VDMSound shortcuts
in your game directory and/or desktop.
- Play the game, exit the game, go to sleep, etc.
- If you want to change the settings, simply right-click on the VDMSound
shortcut(s) created by the wizard, and change the settings, then apply.

First off I would buy this collection set also...I miss the old OLD days of U.. :D

Now to answer your question. Its simple. UO is old. WoW and WAR and so forth are new. They have expansions. The games make money when they put it on the shelf. People buy it...Its a business.

as for UO. When the expansion comes out..THEN it will probally be on the shelf..But right now...why put it on the shelf??? Its not new. Its not hot..and it will not be a good seller..Remember its a business..Heres a good example...
U have so much room space and you need to make money. The lights dont stay on for free...Do U put up the latest and greatest rock/rap/pop band on that shelf..or say John Denver???

Not comparing UO to JD. Just using it as an example as why its not on the shelf...

Ultima Dragon Edition had Akalabeth, U1 thru 9 and some goodies. Look on them auction sites to see if it's out for sale somewhere. It was about $50 US when it was released.

I doubt a re-re-release of these would help but <shrug> ... who knows? It might.

I am so down with that idea i could repaly my old fav's but i think there might be an issue redoing the code to play on new computers i remember trying 7 on a p4 and well was dead to starvation in seconds.... also might be a legal issue who has the rights to 1-8 ? if they do would be so cool to see them release a ultima ultimate pack.

Hmm... I wonder how well received Ultimas 1 thru 8 would be if they were redone either in UO2D or KR/SA's game engines and released as a set...

Although I'm sure it would take a bit of negotiations with a certain game designer to do it though.

Still just the thought seemed interesting... better Windows compatability, a graphics upgrade even more so for the earlier versions, maybe tweak the interface to be more up to date but retain the storylines...

... just thinking.

Ditto. The old collection is just that... old and not necessarily compatible with today's Windows (DOSBox or not).

For a new 12th Anniversary Ultima Online: Stygian Abyss Edition box release could include:

  • Newly created install versions of the 2D and SA clients, with the latest (at the time of pressing) client patches and updates on both DVD and web.
  • 1 Ultima Online™ Stygian Abyss Account Update Code (would bring account current including ML content).
  • 1 Ultima Online™ Stygian Abyss New Account Code (would create one new account current including ML content).
  • 1 Ultima Online™ Stygian Abyss Buddy Account Code (would create one new account current including ML content).
  • 1 Ultima Online™ Character Slot and Storage Increase Combo Code.
  • 12 Ultima Online™ Legacy Token Codes (for the upcoming 12th anniversary, including new SA items).
  • In a standard retail box, with a MSRP of $29.99 USD.
Including the above, a 12th Anniversary Ultima Online: Stygian Abyss Collector's Edition box release could include the following:
  • A new collection with all the versions of Ultima (updated to work with XP/Vista/W7 and DX 9/10/11 properly) and Ultima Online.
  • Two new, premium cloth maps... one representing Ultima of old, and one representing Ultima Online's Sosaria of today.
  • A book about the histories (in-game and out-of-game) of both Ultima and Ultima Online.
  • An updated with Stygian Abyss reprint of the Prima Games UO Guide.
  • A new audio soundtrack disc featuring the music from all Ultima & Ultima Online versions, including fan music and remixes.
  • 1 Stygian Abyss inspired figurine.
  • 1 Ultima Online Keytag from the Mythic UO Store or a 12th Anniversary Ultima Online: Stygian Abyss specific design.
  • 1 Ultima Online T-Shirt from the Mythic UO Store or a 12th Anniversary Ultima Online: Stygian Abyss specific design.
  • In a premium collector's edition box (similar to that of WAR CE), with a MSRP of $69.99 USD.
Retail packages configured like this, myself (I have 5 accounts)... would buy 4 of the standard editions and 2 of the collector's editions (one to open, the other to save with my other MMO collector editions).

Make plans now for a multi-city DAoC/UO/WAR "Mythic-Con" employee & player events at EA studios in Austin, Fairfax, Los Angeles, and Redwood Shores; and additional "Mythic-Con" events to coincide with Comic-Con, Gen-Con, PAX, E For All and others.

In the run-up to release, print up enough info sheets, mouse pads, posters and T-shirts to send promotional kits to community fansites, MMO media sites, and PC game retailers... with additional rewards for displaying and/or giving swag of UO and Mythic's DAoC/UO/WAR products. Items could include UO:SA 12AE specific items and/or a "Mythic 3 MMO" design.

Just brainstorming out some possibilities.

I would buy a boxed set with U1 thru U9 anyday....... I would love to have them....

I think they should put that out along with a new Prima guide to UO....

I have two of the old guides and they are awesome.... heck I still use them. They still have some useful information in them.... like maps of each town.... would be cool to have an updated book though... anyway maybe that's just a dream.

Ultima I was 1985...the re-release.

The original Ultima was 1980 I believe and Ultima II was 1981, with Ultima III being 1983.

Wouldn't happen. Not only does either client not have all the abilities required for the games, they would never use the UO engine to make an offline game again after all of the still present problems the UO offline demo caused.

Ok, then use Gamebryo and KR's art assets and do the coding from scratch based on the older games to keep the codebases separate.

I just downloaded Ultima 6 (which I claim legal right to do seeing as I bought it twice already (when it was originally out and again via the Collection so nyeh to the "OMG pirating!!!" peeps)) and while I love the game, I'd love to be able to play it with updated graphics and a MUCH better resolution.

I know about the Dungeon Siege version, but honestly, even as a non-commercial effort, I don't expect it to be available any time soon (especially considering now how out of date DS is) which is a shame.

But then I guess I'm weird like that... I ENJOY seeing old games remade into current technology. I LOVED how the Super Mario Bros levels in Smash Bros Brawl looked and would love to see the original SMB done that way. Bionic Commando Rearmed is sweet as is SF4 for the same reasons.

I'd love to see the classic Ultimas get the same treatment, but keep the top down view. They could introduce a whole new generation to the Ultima series and actual game depth instead of FPS and quicktime events... even newer games such as Fable 2 do not have the depth of NPC personalities that Ultima does (Fable 2 seems to at first, but after a very short time you realize it's just disjointed pointless soundbytes and not actual conversation).

An Ultima Reboot... yeah I know, I'm dreaming.

Dreams maybe...

But EA really!!! The marketing would be done for you...30 years of gaming in one big box- finish the game that started the genre.....hell im sure some programmer can make easy ports of at least some if not all the earlier Ultimas onto 1 dvd.......this is what UOSA needs!!!
