Ok... This issue has been around since the dawn of the EC when is it going to get addressed...

Here we are at yet another Holiday deco season and I'm still unable to use the Holiday Garland...

Why????? Because if I place the crap in the 2d client it hangs just right... but I log into the EC and it's laying IN the floor... So I raise the crap up for the EC... and in 2d it's sticking through the ceiling!!!!!!

When are you going to fix it!?!?

Really? That's odd.

I play only 2d Classic... but it's never given me issue, and I havnt ever seen the stuff hanging oddly in anyone's houses I've seen it. Maybe this year... I don't know.

The ruined tapestry from Halloween '09 has a similar issue... It sits on the eastern edge (or southern edge, depending on it's facing) of the tile you place it in - when it should be on the western/northern edge so it looks like it's on the wall.

These aren't art issues, but engineering flubs.

As everyone knows I am a supporter of the EC..

But I must agree.. many things in my house stick up through the floor above.

Tapestries, my world maps, most flaming things.. I lost an extremely valuable chest once to this cause I think I unlocked it through the floor. (no I didn't have Transparency on) .

But I would like to see this fixed.. minor as it is.


I am curious now.. since I never use the CC my house is all deco'd with EC graphics in mind.. wonder what it looks like in CC? Might have to see..

Stuff poking through the floor is due to clipping issues that both clients mysteriously share... (artifact of the tile-based nature of the art, most likely)

Particles visible on other floors (water, braziers, firepit, forges, etc.) is just poor engine coding.


The improper placement of the garland/tapestry in a tile is poor coding again and "should" be an easy fix.


I'd like to see some of the missing graphics added to the EC too, like the crimson dragon 'statue,' the giant horde minion mob (since EMs like to use them), and the special Blackthorn minion cyborg mob (since EMs use them as well).

Your first statement sounds right to me.. clipping issue's based on keeping the 2'd client functioning. Cause it's tile based. So sounds like this will never be fixed as long as there are 2'd users that refuse to upgrade.

Your second statement.. I think particle visibilty on other floors is an error in coding axis viewpoints.. It should be fixable.

I would except if I hold an event at my Theatre the last thing I want is the stinking Garland floating up in the air for the majority of people that play the 2d garbage.


I also don't want to go and deco in 2d and have to suffer through looking at my garland laying inside my floor either. That would make lovely screenshots.... NOT.


So I'm forced to go on option 4 which is leave the crap in a chest somewhere to grow dust until either they make it usable or it becomes too much of a burden and I just throw it away.

I don`t care what the CC crowd see`s because in my mind.... we all use the EC. If ya don`t and ya see the game different than I do..... your problem, cause it looks just fine to me.

So decorate in the EC and forget about it. Its not a game stopping issue and there is more important things to work on.

If you haven't noticed this, when people set up vendors in EC, the rest of us see a CRUSH of items at the top of the main backpack and are unable to find anything in the mess. It's a real shame and it's been going on for far more years then I can remember. I’ve sometimes been lucky enough to share this fact with some mall owners who can't understand why their sales are so slow. Once corrected, they are happy and goodies sell. Would be a lot more helpful if the staff just fixed it.

Agreed.

I'm so tired of that too. But here we are at yet another Christmas and once again I can't use many of the deco items... it's irritating.

I'd LOVE to put the garland around my Theatre stage... but that's not possible.

I can only do design and deco one way... in such a way that it looks great no matter WHAT client you are using.

Deco and Design are two of my biggest loves in UO. Right behind RP.

So having things work properly is very important to me.

I could make a list of crap that needs fixed between the EC and the 2d client that's 10 pages long... But I"m sure that would be overwhelming to the DEV's. So I'm on my Christmas short list for now.

I know it's dreadfully rare of me to defend the staff on issues… but I don’t think there has ever been a time where several checks in the trade window weren't hard to count. For horribly costly things, I have always just gone with a special vendor that I set up just for big item trades. Pets… now that has been an issue, but when things can't line up right, there is always putting checks in a bag. Yeah, I know… that could be risky too… but what isn't?

As far as trade window issues… I think nothing was worse then the old house trading system they had. Where a house deed looked like a single blank scroll. Whoever dreamt that one up clearly wasn’t thinking. And… THANKFULLY the staff fixed it so no scammers could try anything like that again.

Honestly, and I don’t mean to start a fight, I think the biggest problem is that far too many people can't understand there is a large collective of us that don’t want EC. How many things in real life and web sites are ruined by unwanted upgrades? I think it's wonderful we have a choice, but thinking we should be forced by an upgrade or whatever is silly. BOTH should work 100% correctly… 100% of the time.

Sadly it's attitudes like yours that keep UO in the dark ages... face it the 2d client is 14+ years old.. it's full of bugs and cheats... all of which have been exploited to the nth degree.... It's beyond time to move on... while I know there are problems with a few things in the EC I'll say that thanks to Pinco many things are way better than I could have ever anticipated.

Now if the DEV's could focus on one client only imagine the progress they might be able to make... but instead many folk force them to continue to try to work with a buggy client that holds them back.

Slowly more and more folk are coming to the dark side... and finding the EC better than they expected.


But I don't want to derail my own thread and bring this to a debate about which client is better or anything.... I just want to improve UO in general... and fixing items so they are useful for everyone would be nice.

The ruined tapestry looks fine in the CC (correctly on the wall), but hovers in front of the wall in the EC. Its not an issue with being unable to place it, its that the EC displays it on the wrong edge of the tile.

NO you should see the lengths I went to just to put some on the "rail" around my Stage at my Theatre. And it's still isn't "right"... since they are actually 1 tile in front of the stagerail.

Thanks for the personal attack, but it's the small-minded tude that thinks killing 2d wouldn’t kill UO. "If it ain't broke..." comes to mind. As far as the bugs, cheats, and exploits... that’s all 100% on the staff. No matter what, no matter the changes, the fixes, the updates... there are far too many people who's soul reason to play is to look for little cracks in the armor. It's just like the lack of GM response with the criminals selling gold for real money by dropping books every single day. That's not my doing either.

The biggest problem with small-minded people is that you forget UO has something for everyone. Every play skill set... every preference, crafter or fighter, PVM or PVP. If you want to live on a dead shard or well populated. Its the nazi mindset that feels you need to dictate forcing people to go to your side, as you said... the dark side. Not all of us want to play a clone of WoW, so 2d is just fine and always will be.

we wouldn't have these problems if they coded it like the wraiths and mistletoe those deeds stack on top one anther I have like 95 wraiths and over a 100 mistletoe all in the same spot the holiday fire-flys can not be put on top one anther which really sucks for storage. also those older items can be moved up or down with house int tool the only way to move the fire-flys is to place above the floor and drop them into place can not go up tho...

I had to use a rubble wall to place a space in front of the rail and then move the wall down the row until all were placed.

Kinda a weird work around but they are all on the rail... sort of.

I never thought of using rubble walls brilliant idea !

Also have you noticed that the sleighs when you place them south-west or east the lights dont flash, I am trying to set some up and was going to place then south west but now looks like that will not work unless you know some way to get the lights to flash ?

Ok just to revisit this and add to my frustration... Let me point out a few more things that are WRONG...

Ok Here once again is your Garland first... Once again someone thought this looked great in the 2d client. Unfortunately for those of us in the EC it looks like smeg. Totally NOT attractive. And I've added a few other items that have the same problem with perspective between the EC and 2d... Take the Lovely portals we got as a Vet reward. While designing a house I had a friend helping me... She plays in 2d.... she kept telling me "No no you need to raise it up some more it's still inside the step!" I was like... "WTH? NO it's now way up in the air!".... NOT good. And finally example number 3... Your new welcome mat... Does NO ONE there check this stuff????? Why is this happening? This is terrible and needs fixed... I couldn't place this mat near the door... because in the EC it was INSIDE the door and looked HORRIBLE.

It's sad to see so many EC flag-bearers exhibiting such poor knowledge of their preferred client.

As a full time EC user I figured out years ago to stock vendors with the legacy containers feature turned ON. Very simple fix allowing both clients to shop without issue.

And for trading checks, use a bag. Simple simple.

The ec's absolute top priority should be fixing the random crashes. Everything else is trivial.

This one has been driving me nuts ever since I changed house tiles to the Gothic set. Vendors feet show thru the walls in the EC but not in the CC.
