Thanks for slipping in a nerf on bard skills without mentioning anything in the publish notes.

The nerf: Reducing the range on the discord masteries from 10-12 tiles to just 6 tiles. Was this really necessary? This pretty much puts the skills back into the useless pile for 95% of situations. Trying to stay within 6 tiles only works if you're fighting stuff that doesn't move much, doesn't cast spells, doesn't have area attack and pretty much doesn't fight back. Sounds awesome.

So, was this nerf intended? If so why wasn't anything mentioned in the publish notes? Why is it that all other spellcasters get a range of 10 tiles, but bards songs (which are treated like spells) are limited to 6? And on top of that, bards need to stay within 6 tiles the entire time, or the effect is broken. If I cast curse, sleep, corpse skin, spell plague, whatever, the spell lasts for the duration, no matter how far away I get after casting it. But for bard mastery I need to be within 6 tiles to cast, and STAY within 6 tiles the whole time? Frickin load of poop.

I know that nobody gives a damn about bards so I'm pretty sure this thread, to quote Mike Tyson, will just fade into Bolivian. But really, was it necessary to do this? Do developers get some joy out of giving an unexpected kick in the groin to bards? I got up this morning all exited to test out the new changes, and the biggest change of all turns out a hidden nerf. Go to hell.

Actually, bard masteries have been in the game for months (yes, I know nobody cares about bards so nobody even noticed). When introduced spell songs had a range or 10-12 tiles. The range has been reduced to 6 tiles - with no warning in the publish notes.

I suppose it could just be an error, but they didn't do anything that should have resulted in an unintended change so I'm assuming the change was intentional. I also imagine that they're sitting there laughing their asses off that they were able to get bards excited about the publish only to screw them over (ok, maybe not but it sure feels that way).

Bard timers have changed also. It almost seems arbitrarily. "Oh ok lets just make it 8 seconds across the board" without any thought at all.

"Oh yeah 12 tiles is way too many cut it in half!"

No rhyme or reason.

The go to hell bit is a tad theatrical but I've been inclined to mutter such things at times while playing too. The frustration gets the better of us with changes and I hope it's without true reason. A 6 tile radius sounds like it's going to have a slaughtered marching band effect. Might be funny just once though so I'll have to whip out my flute and join in!

It is pretty obvious why they lowered the range.

They are trying to balance it for PVP and once again their so called "solution" breaks PVM and does nothing for PVP.

1. It hurts PVM
2. Is anyone going to use mastery in PVP? Not likely

Well put flutter. Time and time again changes are made from this sort of decision process all due to a couple crybabies complaining something is too hot or too cold.

Word of advice to the Dev. team, spend less time listening to these people here and spend more time fixing stuff that really needs to be fixed. For goodness sake, ctrl+shift client crash is still a serious issue. :(

Oh I have a fix they should have concentrated on.

You can't put gorgon lenses on a gargoyle character, if the pieces were crafted. Sure if I was to build my suite around an already existing artifact but if you craft the pieces that are supposed to be able to place gorgon lense on you are unable. Maybe they should have fixed this it has only been around for longer than the bard mastery stuff.

I feel your pain. A long time ago Bards who had 100 Provo couldn't fail. I worked for months to get my skill to 100. Shortly after that the then devs announced barding changes, including that you could now fail with 100 Provo. It felt like a broken promise.

All that work for nothing. That was about 9 years ago. I was so upset that I haven't played my bard since. I log her on once a year to collect her Christmas presents.

You forgot to add "or announced" to that. ;)


So, raise your hand if you think communication with Mythic has gotten better... *borrows the black hole gun from mass Effect 2* Come on, raise them higher....

They haven't fixed pet instant logging, Spell Plauge damage output or done anything to change the fact Cleansing winds removed all player skill for successful x healing either.

So who's to blame for all these wonderful changes. It seems to be one disappointment after another. I bet it's not the Dev team, they're prol just doing as told, but by who?
And some think GM's don't play UO, understandably so.

All Bard spell songs have a range of 8. The reduction to 6 was quite unintended.

Initial bard mastery draft had -invigorate- spell song with a 10 range that was set back to 8 with the other 5 at a revision after some potential for abuse was revealed.


The beneficial spell songs have always had a longer grace period than the damage spell songs so party members can run out of range for a few moments without the effect immediately dispelling.

A bard initiating the damaging spellsongs is engaging in an active and aggressive combat role and are less forgiving than the beneficial counterparts.
