detect hidden for pets

Can anyone tell me how to bring up a pet's detect hidden skill?
I've been attacking mages, daemons, and other spellcasters for months without a single gain. I've tried trapdoor spiders, and my pets kill them so fast that they don't have a chance to hide.

Not sure you can raise it, but is definitely causes my OCD to go off...

Could try telling your pet to attack a Stealth Fencer, and have the Stealth Fencer use Shadow Strike. The pet should attempt to Detect Hidden him.

The secret to the trapdoor spiders for training (according to Broadsword) is remembering what constitutes legal path constriction as opposed to illegal blocking (that can be paged over). The trapdoors don't exactly have stellar pathfinding skills.

The issue I am having with the trapdoor spiders isn't their ability to path. The problem is that the spiders never have a chance to run, let alone hide. I am trying to advance the detect hidden skill on pets which I have had for a long time, and which are now quite lethal. The spiders die in seconds.
It sounds as though the only way to bring this skill up is to employ the assistance of guild mates. This also tells me that since the pets are not raising the skill by attacking monsters, they are not using it. This skill seems to have been added to pets with publish 97, and I am beginning to wonder why. I'm sure the designers had something specific in mind; I'm just missing it.

I suppose I could follow the above suggestion and go invisible myself, but I don't think my tamer can take more than one hit from several of my pets.
