Detect Hidden and Stealing Shattered Sanctum

So I decided to try and get some of the deco from the hidden chests. It is an absolute pain in the butt.

After a couple hundred chests... I have accumulated a total of two shattered gravestones... And I had a glimpse at one of the stealable. I did not have my stealing kit, ran home to get it, and in the 2 minutes I was gone the chest disappeared.

Has anyone had better luck with this part of the event?

Yeah, its been a bit disappointing that like 99 percent of the boxes have super boring loot. Especially when the traps are pretty highly leveled (I 'm getting Lethal Poisoned pretty often considering I have GM remove trap).

Also on Atlantic, there are so many people running around, that like 1/3 of the times I reveal a chest, (no matter what random corner of a building I'm in) people run up and wait for me to unlock it. They then try to steal from it before I finish Remove Trapping it. If I wait for them to leave, the chest disappears. Its getting annoying.

I have noticed that some of the already spawned in chests seem to stay in the town for several minutes even after the invasion ends, which lets me dig up like 5-10 chests without people harassing me.

I may have to x-shard my thief. Are the stealables, etc. shard bound?

I revel the chest, use lockpicking then double click it open, I use stone form since the poison is almost impossible to cure and remove trap fails so much. When do you have to use stealing?

Stealing is only needed for certain items. If you try to pick up something and it wont move, chances are that is a stealable item.

Gear that brings my stealing skill from 100 to 120.

I wonder if it even works without real skill being 120...

I'm absolutely loving the chests!! Got a couple of items yesterday with "Grim" tag...love it!!
My method...dismount (so pet can cover me while I deal with chest) reveal chest, lockpick, move 3 steps and telekinesis to deal with the traps. Just do not have room on template for remove trap.
Previous to yesterday (11.20) I had only encountered one item I got the message couldn't take it. I thought it was something I had done with the unlocking or whatever. Didn't think much about it then yesterday first chest had a totem I couldn't remove!! Remembered @Onixia The Paladin 's other post about stealing. *lightbulb moment*. Soooooo...
Added stealing to template yesterday. Bought from npc making it 33.3. Bought items taking it to 87 I think it is. Now I carry another set of jewels and Shadow Dancers for the quick change to get that stealing to 87. I might add bandana to my outfit change. Since my real skill it only 33.3 @firec we'll see how it goes if I get another shot at stealing something.
I don't mind the gold and supplies chest. Those will be handy since the removal of all corpse except paras. I was looting the gold...grimalkin and the steed had 2k the bone thing had 4k. With those gone the boring chests will come in handy since I'm sure I will be dying even more (if possible) with the wardrobe change happening.

@typhon On Atlantic I think I would change my strategy. Go with hiding(100), stealth(85), magery(100 or if you have room 120), stealing(120), detect(69 is all I currently have with some raises while detecting chests), lockpick (97 I think it is getting raises on that too while doing chests). Takes you to 571 I would add Resist. Since the point is to sneak in get chests I wouldn't worry about a fighting skill. Stick to the outskirts of town. And stay in that town after the mobs go for a short time after town is done you can still find chests as @Onixia The Paladin mentioned in another post.

Just deco. You can get the Counterfeit Platinum set from hidden chests in Hythloth.

On Oceania the chests aren’t being touched by anyone but myself. I literally open dozens per town even after the event has ended. I am yet to see a totom after opening hundreds of chests/crates.

You need Detect Hidden Skill. As you run around you will get the message "You sence something within the area". Use Detect Hidden to find the chest.

Got one of the stealable Ritual Totems! Same version as the poster above. Excited because stealing was the one skill I hadn't trained, so I trained it up to 50 and used jewelry / gear to bring it up to 120 in the event I stumbled upon one. Lo and behold! The animation is fantastic.

I finally got one too. The skull/zombie looking one. Not my favorite of the bunch, but still pretty sick. I'm thinking of stopping here b/c the drop rate of the sanctum drops in the chests feels pretty low. Its fun, but definitely feels like wasting time when you open up your 15th chest in a row with nothing in it.

For anyone interested - So far in my experience: ~4/5 chests have (smokebomb, invis potion, lockpicks, bandages, ~1.5k gold, and jewel bag), 1/5-10 chests has a mostly worthless deco piece, ~1/5-10 chests has a Sanctum drop, ~1/20-50 chests has a t-map, ~1/50-100 has a gravestone, and 1/???? has the stealable. (I've done ~700 chests total).

It's also not 100% clear to me if luck plays a role, though I think it might. I got my totem after hitting a luck statue, but while in tram, and w/o a luck suit or a potion.

I am also hoping that the dev team at some point fixes remove trap, so that it isn't completely worthless on thieves.

I believe you have to steal them. Not sure about the minimum stealing required. I had 120 when I stole mine. It was in a regular crate with the normal loot (gold, a bag of jewels, lockpicks, etc.)

It was in a crate, not in the bag in the crate. I used the steal skill to remove it from the crate.

My experience has been pretty similar as your re: the chests.

Is there a way to increase your odds? I feel like having 120 stealing should make it fairly easy to steal from The chests/crates.....or am I just insanely unlucky with the stealing rng?

Weird. I've found two totems and was able to steal them on the first try with 120 stealing. You sure it was a stealing fail and not something else (like having something in your hands)?

I believe the totems vary in difficulty to steal, but you need 120 skill to have a chance in my opinion .
Same detect hidden skill on chests some are much more difficult to find then others. But the loot still seems to be random even if the chests are more difficult to locate.

I failed to steal the totem I got several times in a row (~6+). I even ended up having to re-unlock the chest. The thief I was using only has like 85 real stealing, but 120 with armor+ jewels. I wonder if real vs jewels matters.

I stole one out of the chest with 60 real (120 with items on)

Did you get it on first try like Ultima did with both of theirs?

I eventually succeeded at getting mine with the ~85 real, but failed several times first. I am just wondering if real skill = a higher chance, or if it is random.

I'm wondering if you have to have stealing on your template in order to be offered the totems. Like you need Detect in order to get the message of something hidden. I have only seen one, once. I had just purchased stealing from the npc. I ended up not working stealing and removing it. (space issues) Have not seen another.

Similar thing happened to me last year in Khaldun. The final relic I needed was Pyros' and it finally appeared in a chest. I failed over 12 times in a row before finally succeeding. I have 120 real skill so I've no idea why this happened. Fortunately the Khaldun chests linger a bit longer these new ones.

As someone else said, even though the chest is open on your screen, it relocks after a min. You'll need to repick it to get stuff out.

Correct, it did say the dreaded "your attempt to steal has failed". It did this about 10 times. I unlocked the chest 3 times total before it poofed.
