From UO Guide:
A 10th year Veteran Reward, the Crimson Cloak gives +3% physical resistance to the wearer. In order to equip the item, the player's account must be 120 months or older.

Heres the answer to your question Chard...
Because soulstones are worth 3mill for the token and soulstones can be chosen as a 1st yr vet reward.(not sold but used).
And also due to the increased popularity of the commodity box... this item(the box) is actually priced on par with a 10th yr vet reward. Not alot of ppl can use 10th year rewards, again lowering the price if they have already been chosen.

Again chard if you played the shard hell even played the game you would see why the comm box is worth so much. No matter what the year. Common sense would say if you used a reward, that is one less you could use on a soulstone which go for 2mill. I wouldnt choose any reward for less than 2 mill.
Considering the boxes go for 650k-1m, yes I'm serious (and, um, honest). I was just taking a shot to see if anyone needed a box and had an extra crimson cloak laying around.
