I'm all for guild recruitment. But let's be serious, I can't go anywhere without seeing the ground covered in these books.

When I go to Umbra Gate alone and see FIVE (yes, FIVE) books scattered around the gate, it's getting a bit much. Seriously guys, one book per screen does the job. Even then it's a little excessive. But to stack five books next to eachother...

Annoying.

those books have been littering Britainia for 10 years... why stop now.

I've been on ATL for some time, and I don't remember it being THIS bad.

This is daily, and yes I agree it's a bit ridiculous but there is not much that we can do about it.

Eh, I say who cares. They're not hurting anyone and they are the biggest guild on Atl, so their recruitment methods must be working.

If they are all that powerful and successful a guild then surely they do not need such aggressive, untidy and obtrusive " recruiting " methods ? and unless things hav changed, excess amounts of thrown away cack on the ground added to server lag.

The books can be dumped or sold to npc's.

G

Well I would assume that they got that large and powerful because of their aggressive recruiting methods...

Also, I don't hear anyone complaining about the free crap thrown on the ground in New Haven... they have just as much right to litter the ground with their recruitment books as all the vets throwing free stuff onto the ground in New Haven have.

I wish they would change up things a little. How about a different title? Sheesh, it gets boring :p

Gonna be honest.. I remember those books before I quit UO years ago, and saw them again the day I came back. My first thought was "Geez, don't these people stop? This is annoying." when I saw like 3 littering the ground near the Luna gate, and then 2-3 more in Umbra. They might be old and big, but it is a bit annoying and 1 book does plenty at each moongate imo.

Okay, okay fair enough. But if they stopped dropping those books, we wouldn't be able to edit them with our own words for our own amusement. =P

you can find them on other servers out a round moon gates Also To get people to come to atlantic. they also do a craftday on sundays where they repair and outfit people for free.

Funny how people complain about small things. Looks to me like they play enough in your minds to talk about them. I would call that an accomplishment on their part.

Grow up and leave it be. Are they hurting anyone? Find something worth while to whine about.

What I find rather funny about them is how they go about bragging all over themselves as the best, most successful mmo guild ever.

I think they need to step back and look at what's out there. There are at least 2 gaming organizations that have been around as long, if not longer and are more successful.

Some of the claims in the books also seem to stretch the truth a bit... One statement that really bugs me is that they were the first to mark all the treasure map locations and that all other t-map rune libraries are copies of theirs.

They may have been the first (not sure on that), but considering the time I spent hunting out maps and marking the locations for my own books back in the day, I find their claim to be an insult to the many "do it yourself" style of players.

I have spent 10.5 years in game and never once had even a remote desire to join... their recruiting tactics, the books, and some of the questionable statements inside are probably the main reason.

Negatives aside though, they have done many nice things for the community over the years.

Pitch em! Seriously, sometime when you're bored, just moongate hop, pick em all up and dump them in a trash barrel.... It totally negates the effort they put into it!

PWNAGE!

The books do not violate the terms of service per EA, and as an FYI niether does throwing them out. Items on the groun d are considered public. It is true a lot of things on the ground can slow the servers, but they are not harming anyone. If they contained racial slurs etc, that may be another story. Many guilds recruit in this manner, my opinion it is a waste as i beleive in quality not quantity, especially being in and running an RP guild.

This is just a lazy way to recruit. It's like the folks that run up to you and ask if you want to join their guild and yet they haven't even taken the time to say hello or even see what kind of person you are.

I think books should have a very fast decay rate. Just long enough that if you are passing one to a friend and drop it you can pick it back up again.

Recruiting should be something personal... you should build a relationship with the person you want in your guild before you invite them. Unless, of course your only goal is to have bragging rights to being the "biggest."

Safe Travels, Sam

Well I play on Sonoma and there is a certain website that loves to drop books advertising an event normally on Saturdays. Well they were dropping so many books at Luna Bank and arounf the town of Luna that I got fed up with it and just started picking up books and placing them in the trash barrel. In one day I had picked up a little over 250 books and about half of those were just from Luna Bank area. And so I made a oint to be there each week when the people would start to drop them and I litterally followed them and picked up the books right after they put them on the ground. This annoyed them greatly but I was not breaking any rules since the books were on the ground they were free to pick up by anyone. But in doing this I was approached by a few of the employees of the site and I discussed the reason for me picking them all up and eventually him and I worked out a compromise. They would be respectfull in the way they drop the books and I would leave the books alone.

while thats funny, I tend to be careful about doing stuff like that.
Since i own a shop, and drop runes (not even nearly what this guild does with books).. and i hate when people follow me picking up my runes.

Theres just gotta be a middle ground somewhere. Since this guild is one of the largest, I just don't see that they'd need to drop quite so many books. You'd think if you had a lot of members doing good things for the community the word of your guild would spread on its own.

People tend to drop books at the same time. That's why you see so many at one time.

The books have their website in them. That's why the books are dropped in the first place.

I prefer to see people get out in the community and interact with others rather than dropping 'junk mail' all over. The same goes with leaving equipment that nobody wants all over the ground - on one hand it is helpful to new players, but on the other hand I think they are better off learning how to interact with others in the game or earning it themselves rather than being given freebies. My opinion is the community atmosphere of Ultima is what sets it apart from anything else, and by reducing people's need to interact, the game itself is being diminished on some level.

So - if you are a guild that has like 406+ veteran members, then tell some of them to take turn hitting the streets and meeting people, or if you are a crafter then take your stuff and set up in various towns - offer a free rune to customers.

Recruiting should be personal, it shows sincerity by answering questions and concerns. I consider the book dropping lazy, it's also hard to see the quality if person you get as you ahve no interation with a book.

Just because a person reads or picks up the book does not mean they're in the guild. They have to contact an emmy which in turn meets and converses with the person interested in joining. I am not and have never been in LLTS so I could be wrong, but I'm almost positive that's how it works. I can't believe all the bashing on them because of these books, I think it's a smart advertising technique.

People are less inclined to read books on the ground when 99% are the same boreing book posted by a guild who isnt even recruiting. Some people put books around for all sorts of things. to preserve history, promote roleplay guilds, and regular guilds. most of them small. Any chance we can get them on US monopoly laws?

These books seriously upset you, rofl.

I take it the books that people drop that say stuff like "Visit; wwwuogoldsitecom are ok, even though 75% of those BUY UO item books are sites that end up getting your account hacked, but those are fine, just when a guild that is more successful than the guild you try to run drops books, then it's a a no no.

Seriously, who cares.. it's not a big deal let them drop books lol. If you don't like it, don't pick them up? Pretend it's one of those BUY UO GOLD books. People who cry about trivial things like this amazes me.

not so much you, some of the other people seem pretty upset, lol. Seems like they have a personal vendetta against the syndicate, it's rather funny.

Hell even the mods are getting happy because they just barely got away with not breaking the stratics terms of service, LOL thats pretty sad.

And now, they will either defend once again they are doing nothing wrong, or ban poor Lou.
