Death, just another debuff now?

When UO first started, there were no 120 skills so for a player to res another player it wasn't just a press of a button.
There was no item insurance, no ability to instantly loot your own corpse and no lower reagent cost suits.

With all the slow changes over time, death has become just another debuff, no big deal, you can die and get ressed instantly no matter where you are. You can even log out and save your pet when you die.

I think death should give you more of a penalty, perhaps just a 10 minute stat loss or some kind of penalty other than losing 5k gold.
It's all fine how it is now.

If you we used stat loss as a penalty on everyone, then the game would die even faster and then we would never have new players want to play.

For example:
There is a player named Peter The Keeper Of Secrets, he's a great mage of sosaria and he spent almost 2 month on training his magery skills. One day Peter decides to enter felucca, he seeks the adventure and action near the famous moongate of yew, when he came to yew he saw a bunch of actions and wanted to join the fun. Once he joined the fight he discovered that the players were all in the same guild. He starts to shake and got scared, he screams to them "Sorry, I didn't see you were all in the same guild, please spare me my life". The players are looking at him for a second and then said "lets kill this nub". The great mage Peter died and he notice that his skill went down and it got a timer until he can use his full power again. So Peter waits for 10 minutes to get his power back. After 10 minutes Peter feels that he's strong again and he goes back to yew gate and gets killed again by the same players. This time he waits it out in ghost form. After 10 minutes he got his power back and saw a nice healer at the gate, so he decides to get a res from the nice healer Tom, but when Peter came back to life he saw a evil ninja named Edward coming out from the shadows with a bow in his hand. Edwards says "hi nub" and then attacked Peter. Peter is dead, again, he have to wait for stat loss to go off once again. Peter feels down, he don't know what to do, he cannot use any of his power, he cannot fight them all alone, he cannot learn how to fight if he's always in stat loss. After few weeks of playing near the gate and the same things were happening all the time, over and over again. Peter decides to end his pain, he takes a dagger into his heart and dies. Peter The Keeper Of Secrets is now gone, his spirit moved on to a better place.

Mery just whines cause they cant steam roll some trammies with there death strikers .stealth dismounters and pixie loveing mages, And then keep the spawn for themselves, Because there so lame and stupid in pvp 99% of the server get rezed and kill em straight away, The only way they kill is if players dont notice them but if u know that they are comeing they coudnt kill a mongbat ;) Hence why hes now asking for a 1 hour death pen so they have a chance to keep a spawn lol,

P.s i played since launch and it never took me more than 5 mins to restock and be back in battle even when i was stat loss in factions , So ill take a big bag of what pjay is smokeing pls :next:

Too slow, man, too slow...

I already requested perma-death 4 days ago.
But now that perma-death seems to get pretty mainstream, I go even a step further and say, additionally to perma death you should also loose a week of paid account time, every time you die. That would be a challenge.

I also forgot to mention how if you are blue and use Sacrifice you get 3 self resses per week which retrieves all of your stuff from your corpse, you also can get an undertaker's staff which retrieves all of your stuff from your corpse. And now enhance client will even tell you where the wondering healers are so you don't have to find one.

I used to have a rule where i wouldn't reskill people, now it's the only way to keep someone disabled. The game mechanics have now made reskilling completely necessary which is a little sad.

Just when exactly do you think Rez killing is necessary and why? That to me is like making the killing personal... like for some reason you feel it's not enough to kill them... but now you have to follow them and do it some more? I fail to see where this is necessary.... nor do I see where rez killing someone is honestly going to stop them from whatever with all the things you mentioned they can still do... unless of course you play on Siege. But then if you play on Siege there is little point to Rez killing if you loot them right away.

It's absolutely nothing personal, it's just necessary to keep reskilling to disable the player, before you could disable a player for 5 mins by looting them, now after death they're right back at you as if they have just only been mana vamped and no other loss. Insta dress, insta get loot back.

How about enjoying an hour+ long fight where people can continuously enjoy themselves, all the fights we have that go on for ages are the best ones, its not about an overall winner, its about enjoying it while its happening.

I remember a day down terakeep around 7 years ago, when i res killed Mervyn time after time for about 30 mins. Once Mervyn is dead his entire guild falls apart, so in a case like that disabling him entirely for 30 mins disabled his entire guild. that fight lasted around 2 hours, NDK, DI3, DIE GOD, FEW and a few other guild all fighting down at Despise and then moving into terakeep. Was a fun fight no one was in faction!

If someone is griefing you, it's nice to have a 5 minute break from them by killing them.

Some people control with the carrot, I like to control with the stick,

There's too much milk and/or cookies.

A great, wonderful, fantastic, simply the best idea just came to me...

Every time you die, 10 dollars gets charged on your accounts credit card, and all the money gets donated to more/better customer support or GMs in game!

Then you would think twice about dying, or rezing too closely.

It's perma-death or nothing. Anything else is just another de-buff, just by definition. I mean, really, how can it be anything else?

Anything other than perma-death for every death is just dancing around the real issue. It's altering the terms of the debuff, how bad it is, how long it lasts, etc. But nothing will effectuate real change until death is permanent, just like in the early days of UO.

Of course it does occur to me that even perma-death might not do the trick because you always can make a new character and resume playing.

SP, would be fine if anyone played.. I think there is a gm hiding/gm stealth requirement to play there bc that's all I see when I log onto SP

No no no. Everyone has it ALL wrong. If you die, your subscription ends, perma ban, no more UO. That is the REAL penalty right there, the REAL death...

Death really was never a big deal. As with Uvtha, Im not sure what you would hope to accomplish by making death more unfun. .
That's just the thing. Dying should be a big deal. The point of making it a bigger deal than it currently is, isn't, to make the game more unfun for you, but more of a challenge. I don't like dying either. It isn't fun, but I do happen to agree with the OP. When I think back on dying out in the T2A desert, to a hoard of meanies, then having to run all the way back to Delucia for a rez and allllll the way back to my body and loot what I could whilst running around half naked, with baddies beating up on me while I made "drive by" attempts to grab more items off my corpse, I can't help but smile and laugh at the fun I had back then. But, as many of you have said, death is no big deal now. Just a minor inconvenience that won't likely spark any fond memories or good stories to tell down the road.

Recent changes have made it quite busy, i took a break but am now back and it is indeed alot more active..

I wont lie hiding still goes on.. but we cant make it too easy for the theifs can we ;)

(Edit) im not running hide/stealth. I have it stoned from when i started.. just saying.. :)
