Davie's Locker display of cohordinates question...,.

As it is known, the Davie's Locker displays 2 figures for either a Map or an SOS.

Now, UO, to my understanding, uses instead 2 cohordinates determined by 4 figures to indicate a tile.

The symbol o which indicates degrees and the symbol ' which indicates minutes. For example, the location 55o 25'N 100o 3'W represents 55 degrees 25 minutes north latitude, 100 degrees 3 minutes west longitude.

Now, and this especially for SOSes, of course one would want to grab a bunch of SOS "moreless" in the same area and do them all at once to reduce the wasted sailing times....

Question is, "how to tell", based on ONLY the 2 figures shown in the Davie's Locker, what Maps are moreless in that same area ?

Thanks for the help !

55 ish n and 100 ish w is close to anything at 50-60 n and 95-105 w

Since you will fish them up at under 20 tiles away, anything 55 and 100 is the same spot

Do you even think about your own questions before you vomit them onto the boards? There are like 14 tiles in each degree in UO... so the locker is giving you a 14X14 square in all of UO and you can't tell which maps are more or less close to each other just on ONLY that? Hell, that is a smaller location based on ONLY 2 figures than most houses in UO...

Take the two digits you get out of the Locker and place them into your mapping program of choice as a landmark (I use UOAM) and for the two digits you don't get put in "30" each. I did hundreds of maps with "0" as the missing digits and it sometimes took forever to find the spot. Someone in genchat finally clued me into "30" being the optimal number as you'll be within five tiles (assuming gm cart) of your dig.

I personally use Zero, as I know how N/S & E/W work, and have had too many maps in a corner (and a few where the coordinates were just wrong, and 1-2 steps into the next degree square). I start at one corner and go across, digging every 3-4 steps. If I don't find it, I shift 4 steps for the next row across and go back across. It's the same method that treasure hunters use for sonar looking for sunken ships.

Thanks @Jepeth for the answer.

Currently, this is what I am doing but it takes me forever to do it on many many Maps....

I was trying to find a way to "visually" be able to tell, based on those sole 2 numbers shown by the Davie's Locker, "on a glimpse", whether 2 SOSes are or not close to one another so was to grab them and go fish them up.

My difficulty stems from the fact that hardly I have 2 SOSes with BOTH figures being close to one another, most often, I can see several SOSes with one of the 2 figures moreless being the same BUT the other one, often, being VERY different....

So, I am unsure with 1 of those 2 figures being close BUT the other being distant, what this might translate in terms of the "closeness" of the SOSes in the end....

Stop thinking so hard. This is just X and Y stuff. If ya need a "visual map" then make one.

try using this
(if you don't want to try doing them in EC, where they are easier to do)

works great for doing tmaps too

(sorry if this isn't allowed. i'm only posting a link for the map, not for the sites content)

Doing treasure maps are so easy to do without the coordinants just by looking at a facet map easily found on Google... We are lucky it's easy enough to do... Just do a little looking and dig it up... Only thing to make it easier for you is the map to teleport you to the location.

What's funny is that with SOS, doing 100 of them sorted by N/S and E/W, I routinely get 3-5 pairs of them either at the same spot in the locker, or so close to each other (1 degree off) that I often fish up the more distant one of the pair before the one I'm supposedly overtop.

I timidly remember that x and y only -6 or x +6 and y -6, if u use uoam and davies locker. Works few times for me or it was a coincidence :D
