Thank you all for making me feel loved on valentines!

I heard lots of complaints, but not compliments! A job well done I say! Teaching the shard hoppers that Siege has that risk. I saw so many complaining in General Chat, but I think it is awesome :) Keep it up!

A lazy day with time to spare

Sometimes I like to go visit the elves in Heartwood. The thought of runic kits lures me easily. Pretty often you find someone there, working for an elf. Pretty much always they carry lots of bags with only junk in them. And I usually don't have the patience to stand around for long. But today I decided to do just that. "Nothing better to do anyways" I thought.

After climbing up the tree I noticed Artimus from TDO* standing by the fletchers. I'm not sure but I seem to recall the guild TDO from a long time ago. In any case, lately they have popped up all over the place. Many of them seem to be crafters, like this one.

I stand around for some time, watching Artimus craft bows, hand them over to the elf, get some kind of "reward" and repeat. He also runs out of wood a few times and leave to gather more. It's really dull and I'm half asleep, just barely noticing any new backpacks he gets. He's also pretty slow with the crafting, not helping...

But suddenly!

A jolt goes through my body and I'm wide awake. An ash runic kit! As a matter of fact I recently saw one on a vendor for a pretty good pile of gold.

Now is the time to act quickly. Seems pretty clear that if Artimus notices what he got he'll make a run for it. Can't have that, I've waited a long time on this kit! So, down with my hand in his backpack. And with a firm *yoink* I grab it.

It's mine! And I don't think Artimus has a clue he lost anything. He still stands there, crafting new bows for the elf. If he didn't even knew he had it he can't be mad at me, right? ^^

Ring Rust

This is a tale about unnecessary mistakes. And sadly even a girl with a fabulous new hair color can make them. But at least I wasn't the only one. There's always some comfort in that.

It's been a while since I was last out hunting and for reasons long forgotten I wake up in Luna. Yes, yes, I know it's starting to seem like I live there. But I don't, really! Most of the time I'm knee deep in danger, bare fist fighting dragons and stuff like that...

So, anyway, I wake up and notice my first marks are just a few steps away. Must be that I've been gone a while. Either the gods feel I'm due for some treasures or people have forgotten about the dangers of thieves. If it's the first, thank you for thinking of me. If it's the second, I'll get you to notice me again!

King Edward and Gu'Jek hanging around with a veritable zoo in tow. Naturally a king would have piles of treasures in his bulging pockets, right? Wrong! Of course a king does not carry his stuff by himself. No, a true king has some knave doing the hard work for him. And carry hefty piles of gold, priceless legendary trinkets and things like that sounds like a very fitting job for someone named Gu'Jek.

I barly have the time to take a peek in the backpack before the king commands the commoner. "Roll here" Roll? Is it a jester I have found and he is about to amuse his king? Doing a little groveling at the bank floor as a punishment for opening his mouth at the wrong time? Because surely they can't be talking about rolling for something like scrolls?! I've heard tales of a very dashing thief that found people doing that at a bank before. But that wasn't here. No one does that at Luna... Or do they?

They do!
Sure it's not the most rare and valuable of scrolls. (I don't know why a king would need any of these. Or if he did, why he didn't simply claimed them as some form of taxation.) But a Mythical scroll of Swordsmanship could always come in handy.
And for some reason, without knowing it, I target another scroll. Great attention span I got, huh?

Gu'Jek: "My guy grabs a lot"

Haha, yeah? So does my girl! *yoink*

I always expect the worst, even thinking I will go gray stealing a scroll. And since I really don't fancy a halberd to my face, or a flamestrike at my behind, I run like the wind. After turning the corner I inspect my new scroll. Only because I want a photo of my triumph. I mean, I already know what I took, a 115 Swords scroll.

What the... ?!

With my head both spinning and hanging low (yes, it's painful) I make my way back to the bank. At least, maybe, I could give the scroll away to some poor guy.

But what's this? The king is still standing there. Didn't he notice me? Or does he simply feel I'm so much below him he doesn't even need to move? Like I wouldn't dare to steal from a king?!

Sadly the reason he's still there is that I was right. He does not carry his own stuff. Just a king-sized chicken, fit for a king. It's a bit tempting to take it just for the fact it's not every day you get to steal something from a real king. Maybe if I just move over here and let my accomplice, who's diguising herself as a banker, hold the scroll... And I trip over something!

Now the chicken munching king will surly not hang around any longer. But I'm thinking that the hidden guy might be Gu'Jek. And there is a slight chance that he's still holding the scrolls. (Yes, I know what you think. But you don't spend as much time researching peoples careless behavior as I do.)
Since I pride myself on having the fastest hands in Sosaria I think I can do this. Wanna see me reveal him, open the backpack, get my hands in the pouch and take the right scroll, all before Gu'Jek can take even one step? I know I do!

But I'm not even close. The king has other plans.

"Let's go your home"
Sure, bring the scrolls. Let's go!

But this is where the tale comes to an abrupt end. I stumble upon my own paws and they get a head start. By the time I catch up with them they are secure inside a private house. Funny thing is, they had a house inside Luna and still decided to stand at the bank rolling.

Not a great day for me. But at least I got a steal just moments after my return. And now I'm back again with new adventures surly waiting around every corner.

its for the "use skill stealing" "wait for target" "last target" macro i would imagine
Yes. Using the stealing skill reveals you when you use it, not when you target something. That gives people a chance to move before I get the steal off. Setting the target with, for example, a snowball before hand makes the steal "instant" from hidden.

I am having difficulty making any money thieving. So far everything I have stolen seems worthless. Though I have absolutely no way of pricing items without asking people what it costs.

I stole a pet summoning ball from someone that's linked to their pet, a 2012 unsigned valentines card, a Horn of Plenty with 10 charges and a rare seed. The only useful thing I stole was an LRC tunic with 1 mana regen on it. That's my tale of epicness! I suppose the funny thing about my story is how I basically steal only for the kicks and so far have made 0 cash off it. It's kind of boring having a house with no roof! I so far am making a loss I believe from losing LRC suits during opportunistic moments of Kleptomania!

I will post again once I have worked out how to steal someones roof off their house, but I generally am not on Forums much.

I was hauling deco goods between bank, house, and NEW2 and saw you a couple of times and ran into one invisible person. You didn't get any of it? And here I'm unstashing it so it winds up available on Siege after I fold my tent. You lightfingered types need to try harder. :p

Boredom mainly. I've come to understand why most vendors on Siege are empty. Why craft when so little sells.

Refinements on top of Reforging has just added to much b.s. and clutter to armor crafting. Now on top of high-priced runics we need to bury our homes & shops with unstackable Refinement items.

Life in the Cloud has added to the boredom by making the tedious grinds now take even longer. The packet loss is ridiculous.

At least on Chesapeake I'll have a variety of characters and skills to play and see a lot more other players characters wandering about. It seems much more like I'm playing an MMORPG there.

Did you steal that at Luna bank from one of the SL lot after they jumped Hardin in Luna? If so, it was mine and I'll buy it back. Not much, I know, but a start to a profitable life of crime!

Good to hear that you have gotten started stealing stuff.
It can be a bit hard to get started financially. Especially since you might get drylooted quite often as a thief. You just need to hang in there and you will get a decent steal soon. And before you know it you'll roll around in gold. If you have problem supporting yourself with even basic lrc at the moment I'd be happy to give you a couple of suits. Just let me know.

Yes, that's mine by the sounds of it. What went down was that a couple of SL guys jumped my tamer as he was browsing their shop, which was a little harsh I thought :(. I tried to run, but the luna lag monster caught me. Still, I'm not complaining, they gave me all my stuff back and there was no trash talk. They just wanted the kill points I guess (I'm TB) and all's fair in love, war and factions! ;)

...The only thing I didn't get back was my tunic because some canny thief nipped in there and stole it from one of them. It's part of an 80k, 6 piece suit so each part is worth about 13k. However, I'd be happy to pay 20k to save me the effort of imbuing another one with the exact same resists.

If that sounds fair, pop it on your vendor and I'll pick it up later. Where can I find it?

Yeah this unfortunately has been a problem on Siege for awhile. :( Of course another problem this brings though is that when new people do come they see a bunch of empty vendors. I have to wonder how many have left because of this? It only reinforces that this shard is really low pop. But a lot of people can't afford to keep up vendors in the hope that people will eventually buy something. So its like a never ending cycle :/

I am still hoping the housing change brings enough people when it comes for this shard to actually feel like playing a mmorpg again.

This slim possibility has me wondering if I should pass the shop location back to GIL or hang onto it until the 90 days runs out in case the devs show signs of pulling their heads back out into the sunshine before then.

<chuckles> Sadly, past experience shows that is unlikely. <shrugs>

I'm on a boat MF!

Another day, another steal in Luna. I'm not even going to fight it anymore. Seems people once again is gravitating towards the ghetto. Like tides of the ocean the crowds move back and forth. But I'm getting ahead of myself, we'll get to the ocean later.

I notice King Edward running around Luna again. Shopping for iron ingots this time. Carefully checking his backpack I only find a crapload of crafting tools and the likes. Nothing interesting, so I let him go. But I'm watching you Edward, I'm watching you.

On my way back through the bank I do my usual track. And lo and behold I find a hidden Woodstock. What kind of treasures are you hiding my friend?
A quick detect and we'll soon find out. Success!
I really love Detect Hidden. Think I would pick it over stealth if I had to choose. Lots and lots of people think they are safe daydreaming at the bank as long as they hide first. Maybe it stops some inexperienced thieves, but not Ladra. Oh no.

Let's see what we have here...

Ack! One of the messiest backpacks in a long time. Loads of random armor in different containers. Just randomly thrown in it seems. Maybe someone was just out hunting? I do not have time to go through all the mods and see if there's anything good. Who knows how long it takes Woodstock to wake up and notice he's not hidden anymore? And I'm not about to steal something random just for the heck of it. No, not my style. So, frantically I search for anything that sticks out.

Nothing obvious at the first pass through all the containers. But then my fingers touch something, what's this? A key?!
If he's standing with all this treasure at the bank there must be some awesome stuff under lock and key. I wonder where it leads... If I know my locks, and I think I do, this is a key to a ship!

Now, ships and me really don't go hand in hand any more. For some magical reason I'm not allowed on these new, big, ships. That is something I'll have to spend some time trying to sort out. I mean breaking and entering is somewhat of a passion of mine. But maybe I'm lucky and this key goes to one of the small ones? Also, last I tried you were not able to open a magic gate on the keys. But it's not like I have not been able to find the ship before, just by some skillful searching. And it's also not like I have not had my prayers heard from the higher powers in the world. A plea to get "my" lost ship back has been answered before. ^^

All things considered it's definitely worth a shot. And I grab the key without Woodstock suspecting a thing. Maybe we can start with trying the obvious and get a gate open from the key? I mean, things sometimes change. Just need to find a less crowded place to try from. Wouldn't want anyone following poor me, right?

I run to the gate and repeatedly bump my head against it. Would sure be nice if there was some way to tell when the magic hindering me finally releases it's hold...

Finally I'm on my way. Let's travel from Minoc. That practically my own backyard. Just need to find a special, lucky, place to improve my odds. This mushroom circle looks perfect. Everyone heard of magic mushrooms, right? ^^

And what do you know? It worked!
A welcome change I would say. Finally something changed in my favor. Wonder if I can get through...

Woohoo!

Aah, the fresh breeze of the sea. Been a long time, so I just hang around in my flippy floppies for a while. But it can't all be fun and games, let's get to work. Better make sure the boat is locked. Wouldn't want any scoundrels boarding my ship. Some people just have no grasp of yours and mine...
Seems Woodstock understood the basic concepts of boat security. (Apart from standing there with an unchained key in pocket.)

Look at this! My ship comes fully loaded with cargo. What a nice deal. I'll be a return customer to Woodstock whenever I need a new boat.
I even need to make two trips back to Barter Town, just to unload it all.

Lucky for me no one tried to steal my ship while I was busy. And I can return to drydock it. Now I just need to sort through the cargo. Who knows what extra treasures there might be!

Gate hopping might lead to loot

Looter is a profession very dear to me. Sadly with the dwindling population and the removal of looting bones in trammel it's not something I get to do much anymore. But today was one of the days.

I find Arugal from GIL down at the NEW2 house in Magincia. Before I can go in for a peek he gets a gate up and disappears. Throwing caution to the wind I wait a few seconds and then follow. I end up outside the entrance of the abyss (I think.) I boldly go inside and find Arugal there, joined by Nergal also from GIL. Brothers perhaps.

Seems to be lots of monsters down here, this could get interesting. They both run around like crazy, slaying beasts left and right. I try to be as careful and silent as I can. If I'm noticed this adventure could turn ugly really fast. My plan is to corner one of them and block them from escaping, letting some fierce beast do the killing. I'm not much of a fighter you see. But while waiting for an opportunity why not get some packs open? Because it's really hard when they run...

Finally Arugal stops for a few seconds to loot and I get to see what he carries. Silver snake skins, guess I can sell those if I steal them. But I don't really want to blow my cover for a small stack. Never the less I put them on last target, just in case.

Ooh, look at all those snakes! Now it's more like it.

Uh-oh looks like someone bit of more than they can chew.

Hooray one down!
And Arugal seems occupied over there. So I can safely go in for a look.

A nice bracelet. Too bad I can't use it. But this is not the time to be picky. I can't stand here visible long enough to sort out the treasures. It's all going in my pack.

Aargh, stupid snake get away from me!

I get back to my loot and get most of it before Nergal gets back.

I wonder what Arugal is up to. I find him a bit further up ahead and he seems alive and kicking. And why shouldn't he be, with a fancy halberd like that. He still only have those four skins though. After getting his friends whole body it seems like a waste. I wait some more.

Poor Arugal, he's in trouble now. All those snakes are alive!

And sure enough. Even a Blaze of death can't protect you from a group like that.

Poor horsie! :sad3:

More loot! And it's purple, lovely.

I don't have the time to get it all before he gets back though. Good thing the snakes are here to help me. ^^

I get the rest of the loot and prepare to leave. On the way out I meet them again. Doesn't look like they have reequipped, so I guess they didn't notice me. I'm sure there wont be any more loot, but it still looks fun doesn't it?

Competition in the looting game. ^^

I barely have the time to unload my newfound treasures before I spot a new gate. I quickly jump it and find myself far out to the sea. Trying to get my feet adjusted to the moving floor I approach Lord Synbad from NEW2. "Graduated" I feel the need to add before the haters attack me. In his backpack I find a key, the very thing that would make me the captain of this vessel.

Clearly impressed by my swift hands Synbad decides that I'm the rightful owner of the ship and quickly departs. I'm now free to steer this thing to shore.

I decide to try out the new way of maneuvering and it's awesome! No more giving orders to the tillerman. When I'm almost at the shore something unexpected happens. A gate appears on deck!

Lord Synbad is back and he brought a gigantic dog. None of them seems happy to see me. Good thing I can hide.

I hate this new way of maneuvering!
I thought I would take a step, instead I move the boat and I'm visible again. My behind is bleeding profusely because a dog is hanging from it. This will not end well I tell you.

Now Synbad is in control again and he moves the ship towards the shore, where he jumps off. But look at this, he's still grey. If I run as fast as my dead feet can carry me, get a resurrection, and return to him maybe I can make him pay. So that's exactly what I'm going to do!

But as it turns out, I don't have to do anything. When I return Synbad pops out from hiding and sics his dog on me again. And a friendly citizen calls the guard for me on the evil Synbad. Willard and Alenne appears in a flash and Synbad gets the old "dual halberd to the face" treatment. It's wonderful to see it happen to others than me.

And now I get my stuff back. Plus I get Synbads things. Plus I get another ship. Awesome!

Yes. Using the stealing skill reveals you when you use it, not when you target something. That gives people a chance to move before I get the steal off. Setting the target with, for example, a snowball before hand makes the steal "instant" from hidden.
And it's also blessed, and doesn't have "uses"....good stories...

Lately I've been able to visit these lands only rarely, and for brief periods of time. These short jaunts don't allow the kind of painstaking, predatory pursuit that high level purloining requires. Feeling shamed by the work ethic of my colleague, the inimitable Ladra, I felt it necessary to do something drastic. To pull my dastardly weight, as it were, to insure the nefarious reputation of the shady side of Siege. If you have children in the room, I urge you to send them away now...

I dedicate the following dastardly act to Ladra and everyone else who keeps the darker side alive on Siege Perilous:

Miss... miss... HIT!

I don't get too many steals from the pvp crowd. They move fast and are usually pretty careful with their valuables. I assume they are expecting action around every corner. So when I get a chance I have to take it.

I'm innocently hanging around Zento trying to get a newbie crafter to open my boom box. Just one of the typical evening pleasures I have. When I hear about a trade of powerscrolls going down. T r u wants magery, Wicked And Rude needs the eval. Apparently some gold is also involved, but who cares about that?

"Come to Luna", he says. "Sure thing", I giggle as I rush trough the gate. "I'll friend you to my house" is the exact words I didn't want to hear. Because for some utterly unknown reason I'm not on that many friend lists. Oh well, back to the crafter I mumble as I drag my feet down the stairs. Maybe a nice explosion of body parts can cheer me up somewhat.

But before I know it I hear T r u and Wicked again, "Come to Umbra gate."

With a flick of the bi-polar switch I'm happy as a lark again. I pop my head in a backpack and what do I see? Power scrolls!

In hindsight I know I could have done this so much better and probably gotten the 120 scroll instead. But with my head still spinning from the emotional roller coaster that is my everyday life I can't think straight. All I know is that there's scrolls in plain sight and I must have one!

*Yoink*

No? Strike one!

Barking profanities I make a run around to hide and make my way back to the gate. I can't believe I had the chance and blew it on such a rookie mistake. But whats this? They are still here?!

In for a snoop I go.

No? Strike two!

But now some higher power seems to intervene. And I have to agree, I do deserve it. T r u pops out of hiding just a few steps away. Not only that but he stands there long enough for me to get up close.

*Yoink*

Yes! Third time's the charm.

I am noticed but it takes a few seconds for the cold, hard truth to sink in. I DID get something.

Maybe not the best that was offered, but I'll take it. It would not have been more fun just because the scroll had a higher value.
