Dark Wisp Treasure?

Was wandering and found a chest with that label on it with two dark wisps (guardian) around it. Chest said I have to defeat them to get it.


Can anyone tell me what this is? And when it was introduced?

Were you, perchance, in a dungeon in Ilshenar?

If so, that would, I think, be part of an old quest/event.

There is also the possibility that you stumbled into either an EM event or the remnants of one.

If you find the chest inside the Wisp Dungeon and its hue is strange:
Ranger of the Abyss Part 1: A Light in the Darkness - UOGuide, the Ultima Online encyclopedia
to get the
Dark Wisp Orb - UOGuide, the Ultima Online encyclopedia

if not, it might be an event related chest.

The cyclopean guardians are back as well, as are their chests.

However, unless you are somehow still ON the Ranger/Warden of the Abyss quest, defeating them doesn't allow you to loot their chest. When you double click it, the chest goes poof and you don't get the Dark Wisp Orb or the Flaming Bud.

So it's from a quest that doesn't work anymore? I saw 3 guardians killed today - of 2 chests, that were left abandoned, when dbl clicked, they poofed. they were reddish colored and unlocked. I've noticed the guardians appearing there(wisp dungeon) for days now, maybe they're giving away more houses(not), something else they 'forgot' to cleanup, or is there an actual use for these, other than the special fun when 2@once spawn?

I'd say its a bug.

These things stopped spawning after the housing quest ended, that was nearly a year ago...
