what is the reason they do not want castles and keeps to be customized? Has a reason ever been given? It would be cool if they could give us a choice of floor plans for a keep and castle, as an alternative to customization.

I sure wish they would I could use a doorway into one of the grassy areas or access to the roofs. No they never did say why just not in the works.

when i asked at the chicago townhall i was told no.

but if they would listen a little bit, we are not wanting 4 story tall custom 36x36 plots
we just want different layouts and our space to be able to be used .

Castles and other "classic" house designs are one of Britannia's MOST visual bridges to our past. Many, if not most folks who call for Castles to be customizable similarly to the "18 x 18's" simply want to wipe away all traces of our RICH past.

I fail to see why anyone would want or seek to place a Castle if they dislike its classic layout and look.

For such folks, place your 18 x 18 and "customize" yourself a simulated "castle."

so your saying that the castles in UO are the only TRUE castle designs ?
why shouldn't we have more choices ? same footprint, same levels 2+roof(possiable with ladder).

tree's/rocks/etc blocking the courtyard area prevents it?? what?? remove that junk then or let us be able to,,, i like my courtyard tree... if i had one

I am not asking for a 4-level customizable design. I am asking for maybe a few different layouts of castles and keeps (still with only two floors). I *hate* the layout of a castle and keep. I find it annoying that in order to get to my lower corner rooms, I have to go upstairs and back down again. The only reason I bought a keep is for the storage. So, I would have LOVED to keep my customized 18x18, however that was no longer possible.

I don't want to wipe away the past. I just want a keep with a better design. However, I will place that desire right next to my desire for a metal dye tub.

maybe the people at EA are just not realizing this is all we are asking for.
i've read the threeds to thru the years, there is always someone twisting it around trying to make it look like we want total customization for these things.

if it was up to me, you would be able to place as big as the open area, in other words you should be able to buy people out and then increase the size of your plot

Neat idea! It does open up some possibilities that might be fairly insane, such as:

-"First guy to have a giant, complete "O"-shaped house called "Luna" wins!"

-Entire deserts or swamps being one giant house, impossible for anyone to walk around easily!

Gave me a few chuckles anyway.

I know, changing gray walls to sandstone, using the courtyard..... all would be nice to resolve. But, there's a huge downside! "What's that?", you ask.

....Pete would be sorrrrryyyy that he sold his castle.

It's a social contract. A few players get to have much larger houses than everyone else. In exchange, those players have to keep the classic style, so everyone can enjoy looking at it. Remember, castle placers had the privilege of placing several days before everyone else did. If not for that, there would be far fewer castles in existence. Owning a castle is like owning a national historic landmark, there are some responsibilities that go with it.

What a bunch of malarkey. Ive had probably twenty castles in my uo lifetime. My only wish for them would be to fill in the courtyard...or at the very least make it usable.

If I were able to take it a step further, i would like to customize my second level, but I dont think it should be three story or four story like some suggest.

old school keeps and castles are a sign of the past. This game has progress far past the point of badly designed keeps and castle, and has for years moved into the area of customized housing. Except for those 2 hulking designs of years past. We have pass the point of accepting ugly basic housing and have for years view the customization and imagination of the players with current customized housing and deco.

Keeps and castles need to change with the time. I assume they won't because its too much programming and no one there has the skill to do it. Probably the simplist of reasons.

But everyone has given tons of great ideas in the past, and sadly we know most of them don't happen because there is a huge difference in what the players want, and what the designers/dev are told to do. Players focus on their skills, their pvp, their houses, etc. Dev's focus on lame events, pixel crack, and charging you 30 bucks for an extra character/more storage.

Why? Because there aren't devoted resources to improving the game, and instead those resources are there to try and milk as much profit from the game and give the minimum of returns. Events and rewards are half hazard, often forgotten all together and never finished. Because that person left the staff and others don't know or want to continue.

Oh well, we can still dream can't we. After all we are playing a game with dragons and magic and being chased by uber fel pvper leet hacker scripters LOL. Imagination is part of that. Sadly the makers of UO have long forgotten this fact.

Oh I hope not. Just imagine the eye sore that might bring. Ugh. But choosing from a set list of other designs would be nice.

what i'd like for my castle is not to change the out side look of it but to add doors to the court yard and to the door ways inside ... i like the old brick look and never want that to change.. oh and to be able to deco the court yard ... put the tree deeds in there and add a mout or something
