Its not the cussing so much that is getting irritating, its statements such as I see just about daily on our shard, such as players making fun of another player because he has cancer. Calls him "Cancer boy" and tells him he wish he would hurry up and die already.

That's pretty depressing honestly.

EA Mythic should really allow a way to report people. Today I saw the "R" word that gets you insta-perma-banned 10+ times on my screen from the kids pvping. Now i mean it was nasty like "I'm going to "R" your mom and your little sister" that kind of context. I am a grown adult and very little offends me, but if my 15 year old daughter was subjected to that I would be more than a little upset. Smack talk in PVP is part of the game, I give you that, but this is really pretty pathetic. Go ahead and say if you don't like it don't read it but that means that I cannot use chat? I don't think so. EA Mythic DO something about it!

As usual, nothing is as simple as your opinion on the subject. It's pretty easy to get around the obscenity filter, and most of the children spewing crap on the internet will do that happily, and there is plenty of sexually explicit, sexist, homophobic, and racist chat which won't be caught by the obscenity filter.

General chat channels should be moderated. They are in other MMO's, there's no reason why they shouldn't be in UO.

Good Job BTeng - that's what UO needs ban more people. It already sucks that we have like 6 people that play this game, we have to have you people banning people for stupid crap like this. You are an engineer instead of "Engineering" your way out of a job by showing people how to remove paying customers from your employer's coffers you should revamp the obscenity filter to be more aggressive. This is the lazy mentality that EA brought to the table before (blame the player for using a bug instead of fixing it, let's ban them). This mentality is absurd.

The first rule of business is to give your customers what you want. A big portion of that is 14 yr old kids that need to talk trash. Another big portion of that is Adults not wanting to hear it (me included). Guess what I do? I leave the channel!!! That's why there are soooo many channels and the ability to create new ones.

Find creative ways to make everyone happy without banning people. You ban a kid and guess what? He doesn't play anymore, he doesn't talk to his friends about it anymore, they don't play anymore, their friends don't... it's a ripple effect and some people say good riddance and they would be right if we didn't have like 6 people to play with now.

We can't afford to lose people in this game and Mythic can't afford to continue EA's bad policy of blaming the customer instead of fixing the issue.

So, basically what your saying is you'd rather see 100% anarchy? I was not asking to have NEW rules created just the enforcement of the ones in place. I can handle being called a *****bag without any problem, I have been called worse. I was just saying how I would feel if my 15 Year old daughter was subjected to such language in a game. Apparently, you have no children and that is ok. Just respect those who do, I am asking, not telling. Most of what I read is just juvenile and mostly harmless but every now and then something is said that is just too over to top to be ignored.

If the profanity filter actually worked on chat, it would help - but it does not seem to. Also, regardless of filter, players will find a way to twist letters or wording to bypass the filter and still get their point across.

For example: There is a certain character on Atlantic whose name plainly says "R*** LOVER" Sure, a couple of letters are switched and a couple of lower-case letters are added in to allow him to try to play innocent about it, but the meaning is VERY CLEAR!

Its ok, i've learned how to ignore people via chat and have some of the worst offenders on ignore. That doesn't work for new players though that don't know how to do it.

I appreciate that's the facility that already exists, but something a little less convoluted and more obvious would be good. A shortcut. I realise you can't put a context option on a line of chat (or can you?) so a button on the chat gump would be good. An ignore button would be preferable but a report button too if you feel you must.

Chat in general needs more functionality. I'm all for people moderating their own experience instead of being forced to do stuff. Usually the tighter the rules, the harder a miscreant will look for a loophole.

Here's what ya do. Take screenshots, of the offensive language, preferably the racial slurs. Take enough to show what game your on. Then, contact EA corporate. Don't waste your time with this go theough proper channels guff.

Let them know, you are emailing them the racial slurs, in image form, and you're are/or have contacted an attorney and the ACLU. Maybe some newspapers...Al Sharpton would get an account in a heartbeat.

Maybe some necktie will fret losing his bonus money. Sure, there was layoffs, but all comapnies are the same, especially as big as EA.

The things that are being said in chat are illegal in RL and UO can and should take action for them period.

Ditto, numerous times my self (3 in fact on a problem we have with someone on napa), if B_Teng doesn't believe the GM's are doing this, I can send you the numerous GM "System Canned Msg's" in full to prove it. He can also check in GM Reviews on my pursuing of it even further & trying to Explain to the GM's how we "Cannot Target The Offending Players" in chat.

Having the players unique ID # should be sufficient enough for the GM to do something. But again as with many of the GM's we have, that's too much to ask for that something would get done!

I hear loads of cussing, racial slurs and very crude explicit language on the general chat these days. I'm a grown-up and can handle it, but I thought the GMs did something about this stuff, guess not.
I would turn it off but I like to communicate to others using this as well as buying and selling.

I have done everything I can to bring this to the attention of the powers that be at EAMythic. They simple do not care, period!

I have PMed CAL TWICE!! he hasn't even both to reply to either message yet he has the time to reply to complete DRIVAL in uhall!

So why not make something where you can type in /ignore, and then type in the chat ID number or the characters' name? That way it's 10000x easier to put someone on ignore because you're only typing in a small line of text.... ???

i know in 2d its the same way you would if their avatar was near yours...when you go to the ignore player tab in options it gives you the option to select the people that are in your journal atm.

And just because they do not respond doesn't mean they aren't working on it and don't care, sheesh, get a hold of yourself. Devs most likely get dozens upon dozens of PM's a day, you're no more special than any other person who PM's them. And if there is an exploit, first it must be replicated before they can even try to fix it. And if your PM's are anything like your posting style I wouldn't blame them for not responding.

But 5 accounts and unemployed? Sorry for your troubles but I would consider it less of a threat than a necessity to close 5 accounts.

1. EA do care, that's why BTEng posted - to try to help.
2. IF there really is an exploit, and you know how it works, or any details on it at all, let them know. If you're not sure bug reports get through, send it to our liaison. Zig_Mythic.
3. There are pages on all the communication methods on uo.stratics. There's a special heading for them in the right hand menu. If you're not sure how they work, I suggest reading them.
4. Don't assume that because you don't see something happening, nothing is. Zig and I have liaised on all kinds of things in the past weeks and gotten them resolved. We just don't shout about it much.

I have resently found out something about the ignore figure in uo. Yes i use it alot. You can have only a certain # of peeps on ignore.

I even test this some more last night. If your list gets full you cant put anyone else on ignore.

Not sure if this as intended or not. I would guess they didnt expect the number of peep to be ignore to be a long list. I hope they can make the # of ignored peeps a infinite or at least 50 or more.

Not sure if i need to seen a bug report or what? What ever I need to do help with a fix or whatever.

My pms were extremely polite and professional. I would post them for you to see but I believe that is aganist Stratics Rules.

I left my job April 30. This month of UO is paid for as well as June. After that if I haven't found a job then I will close them.

I do use ignore and some players when you put their name in it simply will not work.
I have repeatly tried to page using the Verbal Harassment Option always the same: "Player Does Not Exist, Please repage targeting a known player".

If you use the Other Issues Option you get the canned spam message to repage using the harassment option.

IMHO I think EAMythic wants to close UO. So they are making it as unplayable as possible so we'll all start quitting and after enough of us have close accounts they'll be able to justify closing UO.

I didn't realize an ignore list can become "full." Something I have noticed though is that you seem to have just one Ignore list and it carries across all your accounts and all your characters, no matter which shard they are on. I guess the good news about that is that if character #s are unique to a character even if it is transferred to another shard, then once you get that character on your ignore list, you're set. But if you play on multiple shards, you might fill up your ignore list slots pretty quickly.

Freedom of speech stops when you start to infringe on the rights of others, and cussing does just that. It's actually against the law in every state I've ever lived in (and that's a lot). A few years ago one of the local police in my city cussed me out one day because I drove into an area that was blocked off because a cycle cop had beem hit by a car. I'd driven into the area so I could ask the officer how to get around it so I could pick my daughter up from daycare. The cop cussed me out and ignored my question, but didn't notice his supervisor had pulled up at the same time as he'd started off on his tirade. The supervisor told me that I had every right to file a complaint, because what the officer had done was against the law, and he would be prosecuted if I so chose. I declined to do so due to the situation, but the fact remains that cussing at someone else was and is against the law, regardless of what you may think free speech means.

No it doesn't... free speech is limited by slander/libel and inciting violence or starting a riot or stampede (yelling FIRE! in a theater or BOMB! or something) cursing itself is fine. Or if you follow someone around screaming curse words and you don't let them get away lol. A cop can't do that because you are in a situation where you cannot freely leave (legally). Thus he is forcing you to be subjected to something you find offensive. The actually cursing has little to do with it.

Regardless of the freedom of speech... if it is against the ToS (which we agree to before we play) then it is against the rules of Ultima Online.

Cursing isn't illegal because seeing cursing as *bad* or *offensive* is subjective.

There is a multitude of ignorance in any social type setting, but I would say that most of it is merely annoying as opposed to the language being used here, which is at times very offensive.

A person can talk PVP smack without going over the limits to offending others in the game. It's hard to see why some people cannot understand this. Its pretty simple, really.
