I patched and I don't think I'm using any mods. Has been many many moons since I downloaded one and when I click on the Custom UI button before selecting a shard/character, it says "Default." I don't use the EC very often because it just doesn't seem to like my laptop computer. So every time I do it's a bit of an adventure going out and doing stuff and trying to remember how I set things up. LOL
With that said, I just now did a spot of hunting on LS in Despise using a tamer character and a nightmare. At first I thought all was fine because with the first couple of bodies, using Control shift brought up bars! Hmmm...maybe they've fixed it already, I wondered.
Well, no they haven't fixed it. After the first couple of bodies, what I found was my tamer's bar and her nightmare's bar stayed up....ALL THE TIME. But using Control-Shift to bring up corpses or bars of monsters didn't work at all.
The only way I could get my tamer's bar and her nightmare's bar to stop showing up all the time was to either recall somewhere else OR alt-Tab out of UO and come back. (I have to run UO full screen to keep it from burning up the machine.) Then what happens is that nothing shows up using Control-Shift until I alt-Tab out again and come back and then it works again...badly. You can't get anything you brought up with Control-Shift to GO AWAY without actually leaving the scene and then waiting a few minutes.
An unexpected side effect of alt-tabbing is that it seems to turn off the sound in UO and nothing I do seems to bring it back. (Haven't tried logging out and coming back though.) Not good.
Not having the pet bar show up automatically wasn't too traumatic because I'm so in the habit of just pulling pet bars as I unstable them or dismount from them in the legacy client and I've never set up any macros in the EC that link bandages to specific pets (don't even know if it's possible to do that). I just click on the bandages in the pack or the hot bar and use a last object macro to reapply them as needed. Clunky but it works. It's also very nice to be able to once again just drop food on a pet's bar to feed it. With all the "you can't reach that" messages we get anymore even when it appears you're standing right on top of something, this is a good change, I think.
I'm concerned though that people who've gotten more sophisticated in their macros probably will be very unhappy with losing the automatic pet bars. Don't know if it will help them any that it seems if you manually pull a pet's bar, it reappears automatically when you dismount from the pet or if you put the pet in the stable and then take it out again...assuming of course that in the meantime you didn't zap the pet's bar off your screen or log out. Hopefully too we won't see the reappearance of issues with releasing the wrong pet if you have multiple pets out at once because of this change.
Okay, enough testing for me. Billy if you need any more info from me, lemme know. I really wish I could use the EC but this little episode just confirms for me that it won't be happening soon. In addition to having UO open, I've got Internet Explorer open to type this reply; ICQ; and Notepad with a small document, and the usual assortment of other applications and processes such as the network software and McAfee. I suspect the weird stuff I just saw with bars that won't go away or won't show up at all could, in my machine's case, have their origin in something as simple as just not having adequate memory to really run the EC. Thought I'd point them out to you though in case something else is going on.
Edited to add: Went back to killing more stuff and it almost feels like control-shift to show object bars isn't working until you actually open a corpse. And then it's impossible to get the bars to go away without clicking on them. And once I do that, I have to alt-tab and come back and open a corpse again to get the bars to come up with Control Shift again.
Sitting in the inn and trying to make object bars come up using Control-Shift is the same situation. Can't do it until I actually open a container, like a chest sitting next to a bed. Then control shift works, but when you let go of the control and shift keys, the bars stay on the screen until you manually click them away. Or if you go to the bank, Control Shift doesn't work until you actually open your bank box. And then the bars are persistent until you click them away. If you try it again, it won't work again unless I alt-tab out of UO and come back.
Beginning to feel a bit crazy so time to stop with trying to test stuff. Hope you guys can fix this.
