Read in the paper the other day about a long established
cricket farm in central Florida which has gone out of business. Their cricket stock was infected by a highly contagious virus, which has wiped out cricket farms in Europe. Multiple attempts at decontaminating and restarting the facility failed. There is actually now a shortage of crickets for bait, and pet food, and the price has gone up. Owners of some cricket farms have gone so far as to adopt protocols of refusing mail from any other cricket farms for fear of spreading the disease to their own stock.
