And the world will end on....:scholar:

But nah we don't need Nay sa'ers we need people that want this game to succeed because if everyone post they want the game to fail... well it will...

What it takes for UO to become big is SA to be a success, and for there to be TELEVISION ADs... that point out all the good points of the game... that is a near garentee to pull in because people see it be do it... well that is monkeys,... but we are close enough related for it to count. The game also needs GMs for this game only, and fully attentative staff that really want a good success....

Anyways... Hi Joanne

Of all the paranoid ranting I've indulged in (which is plenty for 30 posts), woes of Ultima's imminent demise is probably the most regretful and embarrassing in retrospect.

Every day, 365 days a year, like unearthed prophecies by Nostradamus, or foretellings about personal computing by Bill Gates, or predictions about UO by J. Wilson, critics and nay-sayers and other rabble-rousers prophecy UO's final death shroud.

It is a tradition which began over a decade ago, during the beta test.

"paranoid ranting" i like 1000times more then EMPTY shards !

btw. the most paranoids on stratics are
1.pre ren.shard beggars
2.tram was bad for uo
3.let thieves steal the players underware
4.bring more hamster to fell (and siege)
5.make all even
6.nerf all other, but not me
7.let alone powerscrolls be worthy

and in most cases the poster 1-7 are always the same people

Don't tell me thief-players are really suggesting the ability to steal underwear? :hahaha: You would have to link to it for me to believe it. :)

I agree with you about the empty shards (paranoia, on the other hand, is everlasting in UO and mostly harmless). However, bear in mind, other developers and/or publishers would drool over the chance to maintain and profit from Ultima Online's "dwindling" player-base. 135,000 subscribers is nothing to frown about.

The story about Marc Jacobs (of Mythic Entertainment) saving UO from closure, while true, probably has more to do with figurehead personalities than financial figures.

But every action that could be taken to make shards feel less empty would be a drastic measure. Merging shards? Disallowing characters from using different banks to access the same stuff? Cool-down timers on recall runes? Allowing inn rooms and/or empty houses in NPC cities and towns to be rented for home-ownership?

Most (if not all) of these things are entirely possible. But desirable?
