considering playing siege

I was wondering if anyone could help me out by getting an idea of how siege works as a server. I am bored with prodo shards, but I have always been hesitant to try siege because I always heard it was "dead". I am looking for a more challenging UO experience, but I don't want to play solo all the time. I also was curious how the siege community played.. will I be ganked non stop all day by a pack of 15 tamers? Will I be hardpressed to see 15 tamers in a day? Do people out run you on foot when you are on a mount .. ^^ ? I really am going to give it a shot here but I just thought I would ask around first and see what you guys say.

I understand most of the shard rules, but if anyone wants to claify them that would awesome. Thanks and hope to see you soon!

I'll be honest with you. Yes, Siege is fairly dead right now. It does tend to go in cycles, some days I see people milling around, other days I see nothing. However, don't let that deter you.

Think of it this way: you have a big sandbox to play in. You don't run into cheaters, or tamer ganks, or really anything obnoxious. What you do find are a small group of overall decent people. I played prodo for about 12-13 years and ended up dropping 3 grandfathered houses to come to Siege full time. Most of us here wouldn't play anywhere else and plan on making this our last stand in UO.

The best bet on Siege has always been to join a guild. I'd encourage you to go ahead and get started, and join NEW for 30 days to get yourself established on Siege.

I came here 3 years ago with 3 others from a prodo shard. We havent looked back. There are a great many wonderful people here. I have played since about 99 and this is the first time I have really had a crafter and Im lovin it. As Ian said, join NEW to start then after 30 days join another guild or go it alone but NEW will give you a start. Just yell out in gen chat for Shalimar or any NEW leader.

Recently came here myself, I'm a PKer, kills are few and far between if you're looking for farmers but it's pretty easy to start a big brawl in Luna if you stick around for 30 minutes or so (at a reasonable hour)

I came to Siege 3 years ago after hearing people trash talk it on my old shard. I logged in to see for myself and stayed. It may not be overpopulated, but there are a lot of good folks that play here. Your best bet if you decide to come to Siege is to join a guild. NEW guild is available for a 30 day period to help you get aquainted with the shard.
