Confussed with Tailor Bod reward

Ok so I got on my tailor to see if I have enough bods for a runic kit.

The large bod was 5 piece, exceptional spined, studded armor (all 20 pieces).

Filled small bods, filled large bod, gave to tailor NPC.

The reward was +20 tailoring scroll???? Is that right? From the websites I have been researching I was supposed to get horned runic kit.

Anyone has any idea what is going on?

You most likely have been the victim of an unwanted reward bump.

Rewards have a chance of "bumping up" a level or two.
Unfortunately what the bod system and the player base consider an upgrade in rewards tend to differ. Here you were expecting your horned kit and it bumped up on the bod system scale to an item you didn't want.

This was a recent change in bod mechanics.
The charts for the most part are still correct but there is a small percentage of this "upgrade" reward thing every time you turn in a bod. I am not sure of the exact percentages or mechanics of it but if you do some browsing through the craftsman forums you will find more of the details.

Tully, it's not all that recent - the first reports came in back around the time of the Runic changes (and that was February 2008), though most people didn't start really noticing it in substantial numbers for months (prior to then, it was thought that people were looking off bogus BOD charts - some of the pre-pub-19 ones still haunt us, or were wrong on the BOD count or quality).

The details we've managed to puzzle out (the exact mechanics have never been released) are in the top post (or nearly at the top one) in the Craftsman Data Chest subforum (follow the link in the subforum box of Craftsman).

I had a similar bump on a horned BOD a couple nights ago. It's a shame it couldn't have been one of those 2-step bumps, and it become a Barbed kit...

This makes absolute sense and thank you all for the info. I was on and off for long time and definitely did not know about those changes. I was thinking I am going crazy wasting my leather away!

I guess I will start using my lower rewards.

Tully, it's not all that recent

I stand corrected.
Really couldn't believe it has been 2 years since that change.
My UO timeline is skewed after nearly 13 years of playing lol.
Sometimes I even consider Haven still as a new development.

Can I ask what is the level of the rewards?

For example, is the 120 scroll considered the highest reward, or maybe the barbed runic kit? What is the exact order that the game "calculates" the rewards?
