Concerning jewlery and weapons

First, I hope this is the right forum

I have resently returned to UO and I am about to check out all the new changes..... and I need a few advices.

I havn´t got Stygian Abyss yet, but I can see, that it´s an important (and needed) upgrade (seems I need to make an artifier too), so this I will buy soon; but again to my few questions:

1) what type of old-school jewlery (bracelets and rings) are still worth something, and what should be put for clean-up?

Example: Are my bracelet: SDI:11%, FCR:3, FC:1, DI:6% and Fire resist:8% still worth anything?

2) As I understand, no old-school (metal) enhanced weapons are any worth? (I mean all non-artifact)?

Example: Valorite Heater Shield, SC, HCI:14%, DCI: 15, 4,1,3,3,3 is junk?

3) The same goes for old-school enhanced armour?

4) Are runic kit and hammers still wort anything?

5) Is it SO important to make a gargoyle in order to make an artifier (because of the race-granted bonus) or doesn´t it matter THAT much?

1) Depending on ur budget and expectations you shoulder either look for patially useful jewels u can imbue (example: loot ring with fc1 fcr3 and then u imbue 12sdi 15dci 20lrc or look for already max intensity jewels like greater/ mayor/ legendary jewels that u wont meed to imbue and that 4 example are like: fc1 fcr3 15sdi 15dci 10l10lmc 20 lrc.

2) hci 15 no longer spawns on shields only up to 5 like for instance: stamina increase 4 reactive paralize dci15 fire resist1. This kind of old pre-stygian abyss weaps may still be usefull if high hci others i wouldnt personally keep at least most of em.

3) most of pre_stygian abyss is now useless or only useful for training skills. Even more when this summer comes out the new expansion " time of legends".

4) runics are very useful nowadays not so much as legendary arties that are the best of the best but still very close to them so yes they are worthy.

5) yes gargoyles bonus for imbuing deserves chosing this race for artificers.

Concerning 1)

Does it mean, that only old-school rings/bracelets with ONLY two "max" intensities, are worth keeping, while jewlery with 3-5 other "low" intemsities are "useless"?

Otherwise thank you for the very useful answers.

Guess I will start making a Gargoyle artifier as quick as possible ;-)

If you know what equipment you want to make, it's not necessary to make an artificer as you should find players who will provide services. Many will imbue an item for free if you provide the materials. However if you enjoy crafting, the imbuing skill is now essential for making top quality items (runic reforging expands the range of properties an item can have, but is random like runic crafting and more expensive; imbuing proper gives you control of which properties you add, but with some limitations)

Imbuing can be expensive, which is why jewellery with max properties like FC, FCR3, LMC8 might be useful. However these properties can easily be imbued and the materials are not difficult to obtain. Any jewels with a property which is not very useful (including most resists, or magic + combat properties on the same piece) should not be put in trash but unravelled for imbuing ingredients. If you decide to make an artificer, you will want a lot of 'junk items' to train imbuing skill

Nowadays it's very easy to loot equipment with better properties than old loot, so much of it will probably be not worth keeping. There are some exceptions, like Jack_30 said the example of HCI on a shield is no longer obtainable in game so might be considered semi-rare, I'm keeping my old shields which have that property. The best way to get an idea, is look at the properties you can get from imbuing, and if your equipment has nothing special compared to those properties it is probably not very useful.

Also remember that for armour & weapons, if not exceptionally crafted, the item has a lower properties cap so a lot of loot is worthless for that reason. Jewels all have the same limitations, don't need to be crafted so can be more valuable.

Think I am going into a few days of thinking, since I have ALOT of bracelets, rings, weapons and armour, that needs to be sorted ;-)
