Complaint: Reward Cloaks

First, let me say that I very much like the Halloween quest! Very well done! The rewards are also very nice.

I have one request though:
Why is every reward a cloak? We had the Cloaks of Corruption/Power/Life/Silence etc. We had the Shroud of the Condemned. We have the Vet Reward Cloaks. Now we have the Conjurer's Garb.

As many role players don't wear cloaks, the rewards are sitting in our bank box, wasting space. Other players look kind of uniformed now, all wearing cloaks. It would appreciate it it was possible to transform the cloaks into a different clothing for the same slot. Helps those who do not dig cloaks, and is good for individualism.

I second this, I am getting a little tired of cloaks also. Can we try a jacket or something for once?

Hmmm I'm a little confused as to why you would think you were given cloaks as the Conjurer's Garb is actually a robe.

I cannot speak for the other developers but as far as I'm concerned, when I design a reward, I try to go with what can be used by a majority, regardless of "class". I also try to make it something that will not force you to totally revamp your suit, as would be the case with using specific armor parts. It is easier for people to fit in a robe, cloak, footwear, earrings, talismans or spellbooks into their existing suits than anything else.

Not everyone uses weapons, shields or spellbooks. In order to accommodate dexxers and casters, I had to give both the conjurer's grimoire and the trinket (talisman). This year, I chose to go with a robe to not have another book and talisman like last year but also to add an artifact that gargoyles can also wear.

But if that's any consolation to you, I don't expect us to be giving away too many cloaks in the future (if any) since gargoyles cannot wear them.

Thanks for the reply!

Cloaks and robes, they all look similar. They cover up your whole character, making them look "uniformed". The conjurer's grimoire and trinket were a nice idea! Making footwear or earring rewards is also definitely a good idea, as those do not cover your whole outfit.

Maybe, a new piece of clothing could be added to the cloak slot, to have a wider range of options.

Is this a bad thread to ask for a toe ring or some other type of bobble in the shoe slot for gargys?

Maybe what you want is just an invisible robe?

Or invisible cloak?

Weeeeellll.... you all added artwork for the masks...

Which implies that other artwork could be added for alternatives to cloaks and robes eventually.

Perhaps overvests, larger or more intricate sashes, stone and leather suspenders, ties, alternative wings (for gargs mostly, in place of the "cloak".) Actual backpacks on the back (cloak slot,) perhaps some steampunk type items added from Exodus and the Gargoyles (steam jets instead of wings, barrel armor, riveted clothing.)

I'm not complaining in any case, but it doesn't hurt to add in new clothing types into the slots we already have now and then. And we certainly have enough odd things in UO that adding more isn't going to "ruin the immersion".

At the very least, there should be multiple types of robes out there -- some for women chars that add depth and beauty, some for men that give you different looks (ripped barbarian robe, where you can see some of the armor underneath, different types of mage robes for the "schools" of magic, undead/monster type robes.) The same really could go for most of the clothing and armor we have -- pretty much we have one style of armor for each set, one style of dress, one style of skirt.

Color has been used to differentiate, but I think overall we need style updates with every piece of clothing and armor having at least 2 or 3 basic styles. Yes, I'm aware of tokuno and the other expansions adding some. However, I'm sure the Japanese would enjoy having multiple types of Kimonos to wear and not just one.

Just a thought, to keep in mind when new artwork is being suggested.

Or invisible cloak?
The idea is not too bad, but I can tell you that it will cause problems. I am playing the Enhanced Client, and it has a bug that makes gloves and sleeves invisible. I lost several of them already due to this bug, because I accidentally dumped them or just did not find them anymore. Thus, I cannot recommend to make items invisible.

better a robe than a cloak. nothing can ever beat the quiver of infinity's 5% dci, and besides, archers would prolly still want their quivers.

here's my solution: give us some neat earrings 8)

Fine to use the body slot but you could have created something new such as:

1. The Indian Sari which is a long piece of cloth wrapped around the body. Google them they can be very beautiful.

2. Hip/elbow length cloaks that encircle the entire body to fasten in the front, which could also take the body slot and are called mantelets I think.

3. Togas! Again body slot.

4. Offer a male/female version of all uni-clothing! Dresses AND robes maybe.

I hate human style robes on my female chars they look like I am wearing a flour sack and make me look fat. Elven robes make me look bald.

Why is it that gargoyle robes are plain Jane on paperdolls and beauty queens on the avatars? I don't understand that.

It's as though we are wearing 2 different garments at the same time.

I like the cut of the gargoyle robes on paperdoll but on my character it looks like I am entombed in an vertical coffin with fancy embroidered lapels.

Please please please redesign ALL robes for the female form OR give us a drop box to enchange them for dresses or kiminos or hakama-****as or shrouds or jester suit or surcoat (armholes too large for females) or tunic or jin baori.

Of course I would love some new dress styles, lots of new hat styles and an ankle length leather skirt also.

:)

Umm why not make it underwear? Im tired of wearing the same old off white pair for the last twelve years

I want lacey black underwear!

Earrings wont make a good reward anymore cause we have gargoyles and that takes one of their armor pieces but before them I wanted lucky earrings. Now I would like a lucky sash but alas gargoyles cant wear..maybe shoes.

I think I need to find some coins to toss.

Hehe, FYI, underwear does change in EC if you use body sculptor and change your type to pirate or papuan for example.

Sakkarah,

Stellar quest!

The robes are great, and I am not sure where you guys dug up the texture for the recent shroud of the condemned and the conjurers gear but they do look awesome! :)

As a part time RP myself, I would just say that since we have been seven years or so in using robes to cover the wild combinations of colors that we have had to wear ever since the release of AoS, and now that we have a wonderful system for applying uniform color to our gear that "covering up" doesn't seem as desirable as it once did.

Course, I am glad to see the accessory slots on our avatars developing some very nice functionality (mods).

The choice to robe, or not to robe, is the players. We just all want to look our most boss in what ever form of dress we are currently wearing. ;)

Ya'll keep up the great work, I hope you have some fun holiday or seasonal activities on your personal calendar as well.

What about the sash. That one works well. Footwear too. Ear rings. Or have the same trade in like on the vet reward but maybe allow us to change the slot it goes into. I would love to be in Costume and be able to fight.. NOT HOLDING the costume..

NOT HOLDING the costume..
Well I think the point of holding the costume was for like the olden days when they had those. Cover your eyes at a masquerade. I want to put the shadow wyrm on my red character and sit down where they spawn. kekek

I like the Conjurer's Robe, but I wish there was another way to get Conjurer's Trinkets and Grimoire's this year. It would be nice if all of these Conjurer items could be added into the Doom Gauntlet as a random drop after the conclusion of the Halloween event. It fits the theme of that dungeon well.

And ruin a near-flawless record of not updating past additions? Pretty sure there is an EA disclaimer about that somewhere. Very difficult to get around.

I'd like to see an apron slot with mods that isn't a damn crimson one day too.

My only problem with the robes is with obtaining them (the gypsy version).

First off, the gypsies respawn to "sick" form is forever and a half. Personally I believe it should be reset every half-hour or hour increments.

Secondly, how you turn them in is flawed. It hasn't happened to me although the thought of turning in 40 or so crystals and end up someone else getting the cloak as a reward for turning in 5 or 6 is frustrating. I don't want to spend any of my crystals that I've accumulated through hours of work to have a very low probability at getting the cloak since most of the npcs seem to be camped when they respawn "sick".

So those are pretty much my only two problems.

Yeah, I have a feeling I'm never going to get one, without paying Luna prices to buy one anyway.
