Cobbler.. the useless NPC vendor?

What's the use of a Cobbler? They only sell 4 useless items. Items you can loot by killing a brigand. Why not just merge them with a provisioner or tailor and get rid of that NPC.

What did cobblers ever do to you? Theres no possible justification for getting rid of them.

They make a really good trash can. You can just drop a leather bag of stuff you want to get rid of on them, and poof!! it's gone

Actually, I do use the cobblers frequently, what I use them for:

1) My fisherman sell him shoes using UOA sell agent (that way I don't have to drag each pair of footwear into the trash)

2) I buy cheap shoes from him to fill my BODs. Since he has a small list of wares to sell, I don't have to scroll up and down the list to search for the type of footwear I need to buy

3) He's also a trash can if you put trash into a backpack and give the backpack to him. These items do not get sent to the cavern of discard AFAIK

Cobblers are lazy. I have it on good authority that they are actually having elves make all their footwear while everyone is logged off for server maintenance.

Funny, yesterday I went to a cobbler to buy boots and thigh boots to try them on a character.
But I guess it was more logical to save ten gold coins and go to a brigand camp. rolleyes:

Thank you for giving reasons.
I've seen provisioners, tinkers, jewlers, and others get more uses. I wasn't sure if cobblers were becoming obsolete (or stale might be a better description). Just seeing 4 items on them made it seem a bit neglected to me. We didn't see elven footwear added on them. I guess there won't ever be a cobbler for gargoyles. :)

What would you like to see on a cobbler? Seasonal footwear? Fur boots, swamp boots (old Ultima used to have these), fancy shoes, pirate boots, elven sandals? Items you can barter for with arties?
Cobbler: "I'll gladly trade ye these Fur Boots for 10 Pads of the Cu..."

Are there any other NPC's that you think are neglected?

Estate broker? Perhaps some home deco that we could obtain by bartering marties? Trade 10 Gruesome Standards for a Halloween Banner (or fill in the deco item)

You could consider this a perpetual spring cleaning as well.

Cobbler?? New players use them regularly for selling the shoes from fishing, and tailoring. To think to remove them is stupid. Unless your willing to foot the gold the young players get....

Pretty sure Tokuno cobblers sell different types of footwear since the Tokunese tailors sell all that SE stuff anyway :)

Pah!

Elves haven't done an hour's work in 7000 years. They give out "quests" for other people to make the items for them.

If an Elf had to actually make shoes they'd probably slit their wrists by accident with the shoelaces.

There are many supposedly useless NPCs, creatures and items in the game.

This is NOT a bad thing. There should be things adding flavor and interest, as well as potential future use. I'd rather we have MORE odd types of vendors. Then I can be surprised and amused to come across them.

I've always felt the various vendors should have things they like to sell -- and so have different lists depending on where you are. Similar to how we used to check armor vendors for different colors and styles. Instead they tend to be bland and have the same kmart type of stuff everywhere.

They killed his favorite horse and turned them into boots. Now he's seeking revenge for his beloved stallion.

Also, not elves, Leprechauns. Leprechauns make shoes. Elves live in trees and make cookies or defend their giant tree in a Native-American/Settler-style Disney plot twist.

Freakin' n00bz!

No, no, no. Leprechauns are those little monsters that likes to bite your ankles. Wears outlandish green clothes with a hat. Lazy bums don't make anything, just hangs out at Irish pubs getting drunk.

Oh, they like to hide a pot of gold at the end of rainbows too.

Elves just sit there looking pretty.

Now Drows, Drows are different...industrious lot, intelligent, don't take squat from no one :D

No, no, drows are emo elves. They're all teenagers.
By the way, elf, kobold, goblin, troll, gnome, pixie... different words from different cultures to name the same thing. Thing that becomes useful only when nailed to a wall as a decoration.

Leprechauns hide gold at the end of rainbows. Elves are an industrious lot. Besides being shoe makers they also make cookies, they work for Santa, and on occasion they have been known to escort hobbits into mordor.

Not to side track the fairy creature synopis, but I was intrigue by this "estate broker" term used above....

Is it possible that there could be an new npc hirling or an addition to the Personal Attendant list that has this "estate broker" who could assist in trading houses with another player?

I am currently trying to trade castles with another player, even trade... castle for castle, but since we don't know each other that well, neither really wants to IDOC his castle if some mistake were made... basically call up the NPC/Attendant, have them stand at the sign and the house can temporily be owned by them. Go to the other house, the other house owner transfers to your attendant... After both attendants own the houses, the trade windows/gumps disappear and the trade is complete?
Maybe?

Could be a stretch, just thinkin' out loud/type.... :/

Psst... The actual Irish Lore behind Leprechauns was that they were shoe makers... hence the joke... That gold thing is a weekend job after their hours got cut.

Not sure if you've noticed but a cobbler sells leather thigh boots in colours you can't craft or dye. Dark black that still has leather texture, a deep rich brown etc.

On prodo shards, you can sell shoes to them. It's a way for a fisherman to make some gold.
