Client still crashes, Closing accounts.

I know Cal wrote they were going to start looking at the problem (although didnt say anything about it in the video that came out with that info), but as the problem has existed far to long already i dont imagine a fix anytime soon. I will not continue to pay for a product that does not work. My accounts close the 16th-20th.

I honestly hope more people unsub so they accualy begin to fix real problems. Nice work on instant fixes with anything involving deco, at least we know your artists are worth a ****.

If I had to guess, I'd say check your hd with a S.M.A.R.T test.

I've honestly never had this problem in a long long time. Never be too quick to assume it's never your rigs fault. Have you been over in the tech forum here? There are a lot of really talented/intelligent people here on the forums who may be able to help you.

It's not just him crashing, I have crashed several times a night and my rig isn't a special from Walmart I run WOW,Dragon Age and even Rift without any problems.
In the classic client I very seldom crash mainly if I do its at an event, but with the enhanced client I can be standing still and next thing I know I am looking at my desktop

If you search on google for the hardop thread, someone revered engineered a portion of the EC client way back, a good write up on how poorly coded it was and how even indie groups running out of their moms basements could have come up with a better client. (example torchlight)

EC should be bucketed.

the EC is more picky then dragon age.. even dragon age 2.

i bet you its all video card.. there are a few common problems for crash to desktop and one might not even be your fault.. 1st off what video card are you using, and 2nd what power supply you have..

my video card is an ati 5770 1gb and AMD recommends a 450W system power supply or higher ...


another problem is drivers.. dont always use the newest ones.. a lot of times they put fixes in for certain games and those fixes break other games..

another problem is heat, and another is ram timings. some bios dont detect ram and set the ram bad and you might not even notice it ever, until one day crash to desktop or blue screen.

be specific with your system and we might can help you out..

What I don't get is that the EC is based on the same engine as Fallout 3, Rift, and more importantly, Warhammer Online and Dark Age of Camelot. Can't BioWare loan a few Warhammer Online and Camelot developers who are familiar with the game engine the EC is based upon to help debug? After all, didn't UO have to loan some developers out to the Star Wars group? If you loan out developers and designers to other groups in BioWare, you should at least get something in return. The only thing we'll get from Star Wars is if it bombs, then UO devs will get laid off

I crash all the time, and even moreso lately. My latest problem is a slowing of the client until it crashes a few seconds later. I have no hardware issues and run win7. This is in the classic client. Again, this is a fairly recent problem with this specific crash (not to be confused with the ctrl shift, dont move anything while i recall, gate, or teleport crash) and anti crash efforts have done nothing to solve these issues.

Please, do not attempt to fix anything else until you solve this most recent crash issue as well as the last one that has existed for 2+ years. Thanks.

Have you been able to identify a common denominator between people who are having crash issues? I don't have any myself. I've crashed once only in EC, it occured when running while zoomed out to maximum. My non-technical guess at the cause of that was failure of my graphics card to update fast enough to keep up.

I crash everytime i recall from a populated area in the classic client. I also crash at other random times...I experience a lag and then bam. I do use assist, no clue if that matters.

I've actually been using the EC as of late because it doesn't crash on me....If only I didn't dislike it so

Use the CC and change the resolution on your monitor before starting it up. But then again, the crap service I saw from EA caused me to close my accounts as well ... again.

Since last patch, EC client crashed a lot of times for me. Seems it's worst from patches to patches.

I have a not-so-bad computer, which can run more exigeant games / softwares without any problems, and bought less than a year ago.

It will be hard lag for like 10 seconds, then no lag, then the client just closes. It doesnt freeze, it doesnt error, it just closes right to desktop.

To all those who have replied wondering if i have put any effort into this problem please see the EC forum, i have also spent 5+ hours on the phone with EA tech support. Cal said they are working on this problem and phone support said they get calls for this problem all the time. At one point i was blamed for not running win xp, sorry if i can afford a computer that is top of the line the day i buy it (just over a year ago now). Obviously its the consumers fault for not keeping a 10 year old computer around to play UO, why should vendors meet buyers needs right?

Alot of people dont use the forums, i never understood why votes are made here.

I can imagine new players to the game using EC and crashing every 20 mins, never to play again after the first few days and never writing on these forums (why would they even know about stratics, UO doesnt even support a website on its homepage).

If you loan out developers and designers to other groups in BioWare, you should at least get something in return. (

WE get the WAR community person to substitute to us to publish a message now and then, what more do you want? Besides, 'Cal said' they were more than good for people back towards the end of the axing time.

I can't even imagine not running XP anymore. It took me Months to get 98 to run for a couple days w/o crashing, XP was solid from the start. I didn't want to upgrade, but glad I did now - vista? UG. Kinda looking forward to when i have to go Win7.

There seems to be no ryme nor reason to the EC crashes. I can crash sitting still in my keep.. running from spawn doing t maps... going to dungeons to get lock picking gains.. but I will crash every 2 hours or less in game time.

Iam crashing like he described and i can understand him! But as i told many times before UO is dead, now comes deco no more content and the content is over for me for 1 year. UO's economy is down, on the deepest point i have seen, no reason for me to login in.

Everything changed to the baddest state i have seen, the graphics is the worst i have seen for years, Third Dawn was better than this, the support of the core game itself, client development is the worst i have seen in any game (including Gothic 3), the "booster packs" are a joke, "High Seas" was bad and is bad, but this is the worst, i have seen in the genere.

This game looks like it is developed by amateurs! I dont think the ideas are bad, but the implementation is a catasthrophy.

I have UO Enhanced Client installed on 2 machines.

1 machine is running XP Pro. Somewhere along the way, UO started crashing or freezing. Nothing could fix the problem until I did a clean wipe of the hard drive and reinstalled Windows from scratch. Runs beautifully ever since and never crashes.

The other is a newer machine running Windows 7. Never had any crashing issues. Sometimes lagged a little but that went away after installing Service Pack 1. I still don't have any crashing issues, but it's amazing how hot and loud the computer runs when playing UO.

This shouldn't be on the players to work out themselves, but a clean OS install may solve your problems. That's the only common denominator with my 2 systems. This is unfortunately not an uncommon solution to stability problems with Windows based systems.

I also suggest you try going to Blighted Grove; it's probably the most graphic intensive area in the game based on the reflective surface of the swamp alone. If you freeze or crash there, or if your system's fans kick into high gear and you start running hot and loud, your problem is probably inadequate power supply, graphics card, or cooling/ventilation.

Keep in mind, with such low-res graphics it shouldn't be this way if the game was coded better, but you probably can overcome the problem by addressing those areas if you have already done a clean OS install.

At this point, I don't think mass unsubscribing is going to prompt EA to fix anything. UO is well past its prime, and EA knows this. They're just milking UO for what they can until the playerbase diminishes enough and the game becomes worthy of writing off.

Well you can add 5 of my 6 active accounts as deactivated. I've canceled the billing on those 5 accounts. The sixth one is still paid up until August.

I really just haven't been very excited about the game in going on four years now but I've continued to pay and to play off and on. I even have tried getting my two kids to join me in game some.

I have the same problem as Roland and many others. I can play for a few hours and will inevitably crash a few times, as do the clients on the two computers my kids play on. EC I'm talking about here BTW.

I've taken breaks before but I've never canceled the subscriptions on my main accounts since I started playing regularly in 2002. I have 14 accounts in total now.

I want to see the EC finished, the artwork improved and the crash to desktop fixed. Then I'll decide whether or not my accounts will remain closed.
