What were some of the most notorious dexer templates of classic shards? When one finally makes it to live, I'm pretty sure I wanna go complete noob like I did when I first picked up UO and roll a dexer. Add to this, cause this is YEARS ago and my memory isn't the best in the world...

The LJ - This guy has to be the most notorious. I wouldn't say it's the most potent offensive dexer, but coupled with concussion blow. A fight with one of these who knows how to stay alive is just wait for the clock to expire with 2 solid hits from their trusty axe.

DP Dexer - Extremely offensive, but with a downside... If you are experienced and properly equipped, you can negate most of that offense. If you are unexperienced... That message about spasm or being wrecked with pain can easily cause panic. Just bring the ability to cause a high level poison can really throw kinks into anyones game plan.

Mace Fighter - Ultimately, I believe this guy was the strongest dexer template around. While not having the burst of the above mentioned templates. These guys can cause BIG problems if you let the fight go on too long. They are pretty quick to drain your stamina and before long your a sitting duck. And to top it off they only need one weapon skill for this. Usually they couple mace fighting with parrying to become a tank against other dexers slowly wittling away their health and stamina.

Medi-Dexer - Mace Fighter or Fencer coupled with magery and med. A mages worst nightmare. Pretty much unkillable IIRC... my memory is a little rusty with this template as I don't think I ever played it.

Eval Dexer - Mace Fighter or Fencer again, couple with magery and eval. Strong in certain situations, but I felt that little bit of burst just isn't worth it.

Anything others you guys can come up with?

Yea in classic UO eval played no part in combat or magic. Damage was based on magery skill only. The way it should be.

My favorite was always the poison swordsman with magery. The magery was entirely for healing (and recalls) since mana pool was so low (usually around 40), as mini-heal spam was about the only way to survive a mana dump (especially from more than one opponent) with 15 sec bandies. Even if the target carried GCs, you could always run them out before you ran out of poison. I was usually (barely) able to beat the macers by carrying extra armor pieces, because generally they ran out of GC before I'd run out of armor. I was usually able to easily beat LJs because I actually wore good armor instead of GM (usually no less than plate of fortification).

Before weapon specials, DP Dexxers surely existed, but you could DP anything. At first, people would run tank mages, w/ Hally. Macers were big for destroying armor back then, because armor would actually get destroyed, as you touched on. Other dexxers, swords, fencing, who didn't use GP or DP, well, even back then they chugged, but it was pretty much hit or miss and a huge reliance on Magic Resist Spells, while mages relied on reactive and reflective depending on the fight.

When weapon specials were first introduced to the game, at least to me, LJs became popular. Long spears were often used by fencers for the random chance to paralyze (the first weapon specials were random, almost like critical hits, rather than triggered, unless I'm losing my mind). I forget the others, too. All I know is I played a wrestle stun healer (heal skill) mage and that was my favorite time PvPing lol ;P. Then weapon specials evolved and AOS came.

Ack, at least, that's what I recall :s.
