Wipe/Delete all shards, make one shard for each time zone with a mix of Siege and classic rules. Do not allow character transfers.

I don't see why we have to choose. The two are not the same. Honestly, if they rolled back AoS, and cut out all of the expansion lands and material...I'd play on Siege, even with the 1 character and such.

But I don't see that happening.

Siege is like the classic shard that should have been...but they screwed it all up.

Siege. I for one think a classic shard would be quite dull.

Do people think that EA will finally get a clue and open up a classic shard?

I prefer the classic shard ruleset over the siege ruleset, I just have a lot of friends invested over here. So I'd probably do what Vortex said, pvp there and pvm/hang out with friends here.

Problem is, I know if they did open up a classic server, Siege would die much quicker. I'd say 1/2 of new players come to Siege because it's as close to old school uo that exists on EA servers. Once old school uo does exist on EA servers, these people wouldn't come to Siege.

I'd play the classic shard unless Siege was fixed.

If siege was working properly and tailored to the ruleset it has, then I'd rather play Siege... it's the same damn thing except with all the expansions and new content.

Classic UO was great specifically for the style of PvP it offered and I'd definitely have a cpl characters on the server for it. I just dunno if knowing it will never get new stuff will keep my interests once the novelty wears off. At which point I'd only log in to PvP.

I agree I'd definitly re start on a classic shard thats why some of the free servers that are created people went to because it was pre aos b.s. arties etc...

It made things the way it should of been and not so advanced into E.A.'s way. I'd probably play both but I agree alot of people on Siege and other Prodo shard and people that arent playing would come back to play a classic version most definitly.

I guess im just a pixil junky. I enjoy my lmc fc fcr.
It makes spell play so much more enjoyable for me.

Not that i wouldnt play a classic shard. Id probably would train a archer mage or healer mage as soon as it opened up. I imagine it would have to be a pretty populated shard to keep me interested tho.

not paying for one :p
Ya, the ones that close down or still ask for donations or maybe your talking about the ones where the servers are very corrupt or show a lot of favoritism...i'll pass on free servers...

I'd love to see a classic shard where I'd spend 70% time playing on classic and 30% on siege depending on the people staying here and the community building up there.

hard to say what I would do. I cant see them wiping anything as people have bought items for seige that would be wiped and that would not be acceptable to most.
so they make a new old shard and would I go play over there?
I enjoy all the new content so much that I think only the pvp would move over there.

Its almost like the nestagic that I get from old com64 games or such and re play them now on my computer and I am like - well i seem to remember it being more fun then playing it now.

can you imagine a pvm, crafter going back to just the main lands and dungeons? hitting vesper dungeon and like - wtcrap its just too basic.

I think we have evolved too far from the classic for the classic to draw enough players to be worthy. dunno, I may be wrong but thats how I feel.

I would not wish to do an either or ! Also would rather they paid more attention to what ails THIS shard Siege !

I do not believe EA will ever make a classic shard. Besides too many customers' opinions of what makes up a *classic shard* differ way too much for even the dev. team to recreate...if they ever tried to remake a classic shard.

For myself a classic shard, is primarily only my first 2.5 yrs. in UO. Old lands only, one expansion the lost lands NO CHAMP SPAWNS on the lost lands, no they would be like they once were, wild and free.

NO REN CD, NO LBR CD, guess we would loose golems too, NO AOS CD, NO ML, NO SE, NO SA...no power scrolls, no champ spawns, no bosses, no elves, no heartwood, no gargoyle chrs, NO Luna no umbra, no DOOM, nor any of the newer lands past the lost lands and old world UO, heck we at first only had Order and Chaos, no factions yet, nor any ITEMISED crapola either.

Course, I would MISS my 40+ parrots, on a true classic Shard. rolleyes:

Then maybe we would be bored to death, missing all that UO has become... now, if we went on a true classic shard ?

I would enjoy going 'back in time', but unfortunately my memories of a classic shard involved a UO that was choc full of players on every shard. Memories of the good old days, are just that, memories of a UO era gone bye bye, no way will we get back the gangs of guilds and people that we had then either, to fight to play with or to flee from or to attack, or to earn our uo stripes with earning our respect on the shard, via winning some fights with others.

I have not PVP'd since the age of crapola ! :sad4: I would like a classic shard if it was true classic. Heck I might even pvp again on that shard, but I seriously doubt EA would maintain it as it was intended to be. I mean back in 99 they made Siege, and look what they DID with it ?

AH the good ol days.

*wipes a tear*...... LEAST THERE IS NO Trammel nor INSURANCE HERE [yet]...so far Siege is about as *old school classic shard, [as we can hope to keep], right here.. on SIEGE !

Perhaps it is nostalgia for the old days but I have found it refreshing playing a "classic" server for the past few days :)

if you think about it...the old shards, unless you love old style pvp, would get boring VERY quick.

The hardest thing to kill is an ancient wyrm correct? Sure it brings back memories of good times. But let it be memories. I started playing in 99 and I cannot for the life of me see myself ever going back. It's just to dull and simple.

Siege all the way!

Yes, but the ancient wyrm was a challenge to kill back then.

They could also still have the same type of monsters we have no in differnt area's of the map just not giving tokuno arties or any special items just regular vanqs power, rare items lil drop for house deco and gold etc...

They could of kept Uo the same as it was without adding the crazy items.

It's all more of the same.

First you get the regular dragons in destart which were hard to kill. Once you get bored of those, they make you 2x as powerful. Then they make dragons 2x as powerful, call them ancient wyrms and toss them in Ice dungeon. Then you get bored of those, so they make you 2x more powerful again, come out with dragon paragons which are 2x more powerful, and toss em in ilshenar. etc etc etc. Next month, you'll become 2x more powerful again, and they'll come out with all new black dragons (which are 2x more powerful than the last dragon version) in the all new black dungeon to kill!

Pvm has never really excitied me, it's mostly just a repeat of the same. For me it's just a way to screw around while hanging out with good people. Doesn't matter if we're killing an orc or doing a champ spawn.

PvPer's loved classic because you didn't beat monsters you killed each other over and over and contolled sigils and bounties etc...there was things to do for pvp IF you had a great population and we did...

You like doing everything in game PvPer's liked to PvP 24/7...

I would be very worried for Siege if a classic shard was ever opened (more worried than now even).

I have seen no real discussion by anyone that counts that Siege would be converted to the classic shard. I have seen it suggested by players, but I discount those posts.

If the majority of this shard didn't carry unusable crap with the few carrying the uber... well I'm not sure what we all expected other than what we have.

The uber isn't going away... that's the direction the games taken. Every time the game evolves those stuck in the past fall one more step behind. Time we catch up or jump ship and fight for a classic shard. The current situation does us no favors.

This is UO 2010... the PvP is great in every era of this game. I'm sorry so many are unable to enjoy it these days.... people dont know what a functioning full loot system looks like.

That is a very valid point.

I made a very honest attempt to get into 'new' UO for the last year or two...and for a little while, it was working...but something changed over the last few months, and I just can't get into the way I used to.

Sorry, I don't mean to hijack this thread. The one thing that I would regret about a Classic Shard is the fact that it would have a negative impact on the players of Siege. :sad4:

I'd only play a "classic" shard if it was the era of the stun punch mages, certain weapons had a chance of landing a special move, i.e. spears - para blow, certain maces - crushing, certain swords/axes - concussion, etc.

I loved that era. :(

i remember that time my favorite wep was the short spear would get lots of para blows but as much fun as i had back then i dont think a new shard would bring that feeling back.

I say no to a classic shard within EA. There are plenty of classic freeshards available, and I'd rather EA devote their time to modern shards.

I think you'd love the t2a precast halberd days.

If it does go to the era you are talking about, I hope they balance it so it was more like it was at the end (and not the beginning when people were 1-2 hit killing others with those special moves. 85-115 HP damage from a crushing blow was a bit ridiculous)

I also wonder how many people remember when they first changed mindblast to do damage based on the differences in stats... which made me finally find a use for the oldschool wizard hats for meditating at that time.

Your chance of doing a special move went up the higher your characters int was. I knew a lot of guys who rolled around in spears with lower than usual HP and would wind up chain para'ing someone to death. The 1 hit kill crushing blow was the worst tho... until they balanced it and lumberjacks (lamerjacks) became the flavor of the month.

Same era. I call it UOR because that's the xpac that ushered it in.

Arms lore + wrestling = disarm and anat + wrestling = stun punch.

UOR (Trammel) was when we saw precast removed and MB made useful. Also they added that whenever you casted a spell, your spellbook would auto-equip. Special moves were added. Stun mages didn't really emerge as a favorite until LBR.

The next major change came with Lord Blackthornes Revenge (LBR) which is when stun mages really shined (and the era I think sakey thinks back on) when the developers boosted the smaller circle spells such as harm, fireball, MA and lightning.

I can even take my memory to the days of before t2a and eval int, anatomy, stealth meditation. Having to hunt monsters for the scrolls in my spellbook. Being able to talk to people while hidden. Training magery without meditation (good god.)

t2a brought on the halberd/mace mages with precast. Before t2a it was the tank mages (melee/archery/magery) riding around in full plate with heavy xbows.

p.16 it became about being 120eval/mage and killing someone with explosion and ebolt or your pocketbook. Runic weapons killing people in 2 hits (3 if you were lucky.)

IMO, the two most loved era's are LBR and t2a.

t2a has been acclaimed as the best expansion this game has ever gotten. It fit with the design. It took the game forward and it alienated no one. I'm not surprized one bit that it has the most votes in that poll.

LBR had the cool stuff though. The orc and savage invasions (orc bombers, scouts, etc.) Ilshenar opened up a new place, but again... the implementation of trammel and the way it ostracized players and continuing to do so with every expac since (except SA! I think they really tried and thus I like this Dev team.)

I dunno. A lot of time has passed.... I'm not sure how many like me are even left, but I know for a fact that there aren't any free shards ever that have been able to properly replicate those eras.

I'm not really bothered either way about a classic shard. Its been to long and I just can't see them seriously sitting down and starting it.

When I left UO I played games such as Star Wars Galaxies (SWG). The history of SWG has much in common with UO. When SWG first opened and for a few years after it was a thriving game. You could visit the bigger starports, like Coronet, and find hundreds of people around. Selling stuff, looking for groups or just waiting for friends. You'd usually go to the town outskirts and join a group of about 10 others to attack lairs for skill experience.

To me, SWG at that time was my favourite game and still has some of the fondest memories. I met loads of people, joined a thriving city and even became the Mayor of that city. But then a Combat Upgrade came in (CU) and it began the end. I left shortly after as the very fundamentals of the game had changed. All the people in my city left, not happy with the game and how it changed. Further updates came along which alienated even more people. To most of us, the game system didn't need changing. It wasn't broke, so why fix it? The skillset was alot like UO, where you could choose a great combination of skills rather than preset paths.

I left for a number of years and only came back last year. The game was different but I still managed to adapt and even found a new city and a group of great people (that i still talk to, albeit i don't play SWG at the moment). There was always debate on the forums about Sony making a pre-CU server, much like a Classic UO shard.

But as much as I wanted a pre-CU server, and as much as I'd be interested in a Classic UO Shard, I have to remind myself to stop seeing the world with rose tinted glasses. I feel its been to long and its bit like flogging a dead horse.

I'd rather see what resources are available to the developers be used to make bold changes to the current game.

My fear is that if a classic shard was given the go-ahead that the resources would be too stretched to sustain two very different game versions.

I'd switch to a classic immediately. I really loved the old player driven economy. Also liked that easier item system, death didn't sting so much. Being a murderer actually also meant something back then.

I liked the special moves era, too. It introduced something new to dexxers. Crushing blows were ridiculous, but I loved being a macer. I was a macer even before then, because how much easier it was to get/buy powerful maces, since there was a lot less demand (before special moves). I never went lumberjack, I liked the versatility of using those 100 points for parrying, but still hit hard with a warhammer when needed.

I can point you to one that does an almost perfect job of replicating t2a. I'll PM it to you.But I would point out that it usually has at least 300 online and around 700 at peak time. Needless to say, the demand is out there.
