Hi, I see above there are stickied posts regarding classic shard information. Is one in development?
yes, they do as long as it's on a topic they aren't interested in.Everyone started at one post at some point or another. Do you want us to lock/move/delete all posts from someone who is a new member? That really says something for our ability to grow a site eh?![]()
Whatever Shamus. You've been here long enough to know what this is. Play dumb as long as it furthers your own ideals I guess.Everyone started at one post at some point or another. I'm pretty sure it's called "benefit of the doubt".Whatever Shamus. You've been here long enough to know what this is. Play dumb as long as it furthers your own ideals I guess.
There has been a lot of discussion in two threads recently. Thread one named "Classic Shard" got locked because it had something like 2500+ posts and was loading very slowly. "Classic Shard #2" got started to continue the discussion and has 800+ posts.Hi, I see above there are stickied posts regarding classic shard information. Is one in development?
Oh yes they do, and I've got the past warnings to prove it....oops...errrr....I mean......nothing to see here...move along folks.I'm pretty sure it's called "benefit of the doubt".
You know, mods don't generally get to fly off on their hunches without any accountability. If Shamus were to remove the thread, and the question of "why?" came up, then he'd have to explain that it seemed shady, or however you wanted to define it.
It's possible that it's a genuine new poster that's looking for information, and so in the interests of building community, you have to weigh the pros and cons.
Keeping the thread doesn't detract from the community, while being a jerk about it being kept does.
I'm unsure what you mean. I was a long time player of this game who stopped playing quite some time ago, every year or so I visit this website looking for information on a classic server as it is something that interests me. I saw some stickied information on the top and inquired.Another "one post wonder".
Mods why don't you just lock/move/delete, do something with these posts?
I am not a new member, I have been a member of this forum since before the uo.com boards were shut down. I guess I haven't logged in for such a long time that my name was imported_Farquhar and I couldn't post, so I made a new account.Everyone started at one post at some point or another. And with that information, I can wave my magic wand and 'hey presto' you are no longer a one post wonderI am not a new member, I have been a member of this forum since before the uo.com boards were shut down. Considering they can't even get someone to keep the website up to date, They aren't likely to get Devs just for a classic shard meaning if they do make one, It's likely we'll loose out on Dev time.god i hope they don't waste any precious developer time on a classic shard - it's bad enough we have siege perilous that they have to change stuff to accomodate already
There's an App? So many posters are Mods now, I thought they were just handing them out. rolleyes:I'm glad you changed 'mods' to 'devs' I was confused I misread the application form on what I'm to do.![]()
Ditto... burned out.I'm so tired of hearing about classic shard, classic shard...
Not sure where you get your information from, but Siege has had little love from the Dev's for ages.god i hope they don't waste any precious developer time on a classic shard - it's bad enough we have siege perilous that they have to change stuff to accomodate already
Subscription income from the ones that subscribe to a classic shard should of course go to that classic shard.god i hope they don't waste any precious developer time on a classic shard - it's bad enough we have siege perilous that they have to change stuff to accomodate already
Isn't it great? Especially the people who post the dead horse pics...<Seriously amused>
You know this thread could have drifted off into history already if you anti Classic Shard folks would just stop keeping it refreshed by posting to it.
It could have just been 3 whole posts. The OP asking about The Classic Shard, Post #2 Answering the question, and post #3 consisting of a thank you from the OP.
And you pancake about the Classic Shard fans posting to much... rolleyes:
Not a bad idea...they could name it: "UO: Age of Sergul'zan"*thinks* Classic shard could be UOII... A fresh start.
Or how about - "How It Should Have Been"Not a bad idea...they could name it: "UO: Age of Sergul'zan"*thinks* Classic shard could be UOII... A fresh start.
...
That classic shard would get more then enough income especially since it wont be much development on it, thats the idea of a classic shard, it is frozen in time.
Here's the problem... Classic fans want the old Pre-AOS, Pre-Pub 16, or whatever, and claim it won't take any effort on EA's part. But then they want it constantly updated so it doesn't die from lack of attention... but don't change it!Not sure where you get your information from, but Siege has had little love from the Dev's for ages.
Except changing the locations of the recent official events, very little has been done as extra work for Siege.
The developer attention i would expect is scenarios. Here's the problem... Classic fans want the old Pre-AOS, Pre-Pub 16, or whatever, and claim it won't take any effort on EA's part. But then they want it constantly updated so it doesn't die from lack of attention... but don't change it!
You can't have it both ways, folks! If EA makes a Classic shard it will take constant developer attention to keep people interested. Siege proved that.
See, Siege was destined to decline when AoS content was implemented there too. It's restrictive elements also don't encourage players. Want more characters there... you need more accounts, costing the player more money....

Yes. Scenarios are fine and why shouldn't "classic" shard players have EM events or stories that suit the nature of their world. The developer attention i would expect is scenarios. Here's the problem... Ya know what, as much as I loved the "old days" of UO ( I started in Early 98'), It cannot be reproduced. QUOTE]
^ well said. Do people really think playing on a shard thats mirrored after old days would be so great? heres an example, lets say youve played the entire game and storyline of lets say Mario, yes you had such a fun and exciting feeling when you stomped your first turtle, but guess what, playing the game over will not give the same feeling. Yes a classic shard would thrive at first, but it wouldnt take long for people to get bored. Once the players remember how the game worked then and what there was to do then they start gettin bored.
With all the troubles in game these days, I truly agree that developer time and resources would be best spent on existing servers, sorry guys.
You cant compare UO before and after AoS with a game like Mario. Mario sequels is very much alike the first Mario game that came out.Ya know what, as much as I loved the "old days" of UO ( I started in Early 98'), It cannot be reproduced. QUOTE]

UO before and after AoS is two completely different games.
PvP changed completely from skillbased to itembased. Insurance on items removed full loot from the game. New skillsystem and on and on.....
Many that want a classic shard dont subscribe to UO anymore, they left after trammel or after AoS.
These players that ended their subscription and want a classic shard wont subscribe to UO of today cause it isnt a new Mario game, it is a completely different game. Old classic UO and UO of today have very few similarities.
The subscription income from a classic server should go to development of this new classic server. Scenarios and other fun.
