Please, please do not debate anything about the classic shard discussion here, alas I do not want this thread to get locked. I am looking for an information update only!

Forgive me for posting this, but word has gotten around in wow and from some of my old online friends that talk about a classic UO shard has been running about.

I do not play UO anymore and I venture over to these forums a couple times a year to see what's going on in UO and where we are with the classic shard... most of the time I see nothing, but THERE ARE POSTS ALL OVER?!?!?!?

What is up? I'm gonna have a heart attack here. I want to get some info before I start handing heart attacks out to friends.

Can we donate money to help this? I'd be happy to sign a 1 yr - 2 yr commitment for this. I'd pay double the subscription.

Asically a developer Cal has released in one of his monthly updates that they have thrown around the idea of a classic shard in the board room. At this point it's only that. A quick discussion in the board room but it's the first time mythic has admitted that they are at least thinking about doing it. He said they will talk further on it during this year and probably come to a conclusion much later this year. So with that said people have been tossing around their idea of what classic is to try and get it right. If it happens.

Check by again at the end of the year then they might have decided if they go for it or not.

Actually I think there's more to it than that. Cal has thrown out the, "I'm not at liberty to say any more about this at this time." Which leads me to believe that what is going on on Mythic's end is more than just something that have thrown around at a meeting. I think it has gone well beyond that now.

There are a couple of reasons that I can think of why they might not be at liberty to discuss the matter publicly:

- They are waiting for permission from administrators to proceed, and can't discuss it until it has either been given approval or rejected. This seems unlikely to me because it has been some time since Cal made that statement, and nothing has been said, unless of course they are waiting for a quarterly meeting or something of that nature, or they need to make a presentation to management that needs to be scheduled.

- They are weaving the launch of a classic shard into the game fiction, and don't want to ruin the suspense. This seems to me to be more likely, especially given the message from day 9 of the Ricardo quest chain.

Cal has also said that the next few years are going to be a very exciting time in the history of UO. It wouldn't be wise to read too much into that, but the hottest topic of discussion on the forums lately has been a classic shard, and we know the devs have payed close attention to that discussion.

So, to wrap it up, I am pretty convinced that a classic shard is in the works, and in fact the devs might already be quite far into that process.

BUT I'VE BEEN WRONG BEFORE! So take my opinion with a huge grain of salt... ;)

I've never done a single quest ever... and I don't even know where this riccardo (or whoever) fellow is at... so I'll need a bit of explaining on what you mean =(

The current story line fiction has to do with how Trammel was created. If you go and look at the actual text of it all, at one point, they use the word "Shard" where they should (presumably) have used the word "facet".

My hunch is that the current fiction will set up some future event that will explain how a classic shard could exist...I could be wrong.

Why would this disappoint you?
