Chiv - How useful do you find it?

I rarely see Chiv tamers but I've been thinking about this and wanted to solicit feedback from people who have tried it.

I have magery already, so Chiv would be a supplemental skill.

I'm wondering if the fast/efficient heals can compete well with Greater Heal and make me not wanna use it any more.

Also The Cure with heal component seems pretty nice, and ability to remove curses like Mortal is nice also.

Lastly there is an AOE spell, Holy Light, which I have seen one archer friend using to clear low level spawn. I'm not thinking of using it for killing, but rather when I have a pet in guard mode and I AOE, anything I attack, basically my pet goes after. So it would be nice to get the pet killing stuff, and to help it a bit.

I'm thinking of taking it to around 100. Have you tried Chiv, and what did you think of it as a supplementary skill?

Back before I scrolled up my character, I had 50-60 chivalry so I could cast remove curse.

It was very handy. I can't imagine why someone would want more than that unless they were a melee tamer.

Same here except that I go with 25 chiv only.
Of course I fail Remove curse a lot, but I have enough FC/FCR for the success rate to be enough.

Once I'm legendary tamer "for real" I'll be able to get some ring/brace with some chiv and focus to help along :)

But yeah I have chiv on my melee char, on my tamer there are far more useful skills to have IMO.

Not enough on it's own to fight, of course that's it you don't have a weapon/melee skill, but on a tamer, it would be crowded.

Heal/cure not really that much better than the magery ones and depending on the Karma that could lower while the magery ones only depend on the skill level.

No gate (for freshly tamed non riddable pets), invis (saved my life and sometimes my pet's more than once, useful to lore pets and decide witch one to tame), teleport (to be able to go near your pet without being targeted), summons (when you're without your pet)
And that's just counting on the spells you can use without eval int.

So yes remove curse is great, but no need to have a high level chiv skill for that.

Meh, I tried it out, as a supplemental skill for a caster its not that great

Hmm as others have said I think it could be a great skill to add to a tamer however to make it max effective I'd have to have 4/6 casting along with glorious lord karma! Good Idea though I may try this!

Ah but no magery as it reduces the 4/6 casting.

Chiv for a tamer (i mean to your pets well-fare) is good at arround 50 as it will remove curse and also cure it if you havent got the animal lore + vet to do so.

If a Human you will have a joat of 20 a basic in all skill, while 20 free chive aint much, it will allow you to attemt and attemt :) to cast remove curse amd cure from the chiv spells.

Basic template for any tamer is to max the taiming skill.

At 120 taming and 20 animal lore, yes only 20 lore, you have 99% control of a dragon or a nightmare. If human with 120 taming and 0, yes only o lore, (20 with joat) it's the same.

Note Rings and other magical stuff cant improve the basic joat of 20.

You may use 300+ slill points on just the taming related skills alone, ( Tame 120 or lower, but you need animal lore to make up for the lower taming, its 1/5 for control, so 1 points in taming is is worth 5 skill points in lore)

Magery spells i find are more usefull, just the invis spell alone is worth the 90 odd magery to never fail.

I think a pet is my basic weapon for PvM so if i die, so will my pet.

But if i can survive via magery, (i have my f12 key set to recall to a safe area) OH also i normaly have the magery spell Protection up, ok it lowers alot but if f12 gets me and my pet safey out it's worth the magery skill alone.
if stuck for skill points i would chouse Magery.
Magery for self surival, ie invis, recall without failing is a must to me.

edit: oh also there are weapons that allow the use of the magery skill as a meele skill, so if you have 100 magery and a mage wep, you will defend or attack as if you were 100 in that's weapon skill. OK no real damage but worth defence.

One of the things I learnt recently is that remove curse frees paralysed pets. So I love my 55 chiv. I had heard that 50 chiv was enough, but a failed spell at the wrong time can be the difference between life and death and I was still getting some fails at 50, so I switched to 55 and I've never looked back.

Keeping your karma high is relatively easy, so that shouldn't be a big concern.

This info is EXTREAMLY outdated. Please do not listen to this.

Its about 2 years since it worked to have 0 animal Lore. It was fixed long a time ago.

I always thought chiv was for melee type characters....

Bravo for those who manage to push a melee skill into their already quite crowded tamer template.

I switched from peacer/tamer to necro tamer...
Loving it ever since :)

Use to have a 120 chiv tamer, dispel evil was great, pet almost never died against anything. well til they changed it anyway(only seems to work against faction mobs now)
