chat system

I am confused about the chat system. I played till 2005 and now started again.

Was trying out both clients a little while ago and I am sure I found this new window for chat, looked a bit like a irc client and I saw a list of all people in the channel with a number in front of them. It was a different window and I am almost sure it was in the old client, because after that I was trying to find the same thing in the new client. Last night I tried to find that window but I just couldn't. Pressed every button there is.

Thing is I am confused about chat.

Why is there in the old client a whole section where you can set fonts and colour if it doesn't do anything? (at work now think it's the second last tab on the left side) All I can do if I press the chat button is select a channel to join and I have to use Journal to see what's being said.

Why is there a font/color setting for private messages in the new client if you can't send them ? at least I don't know how.

The chat system that is currently in game is fairly new (I think it was added just before the Holidays). The Classic Client (old client) had a chat interface that was very much like IRC, opened in a separate window and was hardly ever used. The new system is more like the chat channels of other online games and both clients interface with it. In the Enhanced Client (new client) you have a chat window and can assign additional tabs and filter which channels show in that tab and so on. In the Classic Client the channel is mixed with in with your other chat and displays with blue text in your journal. There is no separate window for the chat display. The Classic Client also has the left over settings of the old chat system like the font settings and so on, but to my knowledge they do not function at this time.

The current system is a work in progress. In fact they are currently testing and most likely patching soon the ability to add people to an ignore list and change the default color. I know I read in a post by a Dev that they are working on adding additional features, but there is no set time frame.
