If you play with the Enhanced Client you have to join a chat channel first... you do this in the chat menu.. there is a button on the menu line.

After you have joined a channel you can type /c to enter it :)

Depends on which client you are using
Classic Client, you first go to chat which is located on the crossbar (Where you see map, paperdoll, journal, chat, help) and then highlight the room you want to get in and hit join.
To talk in this room type a comma and then a space and then type away.
You have to do that everytime you want to type anything in the global chat room.

I will do Enhanced Client later if the Classic Client is not what you wanted.

One of my gripes with the EC - no matter which legacy/non legacy setting I choose, I have to mouse over to choose a chat channel. It's a PITA. In 2d it's nothing to say stuff 'out loud, \ to talk in guild, shift + \ to chat in alliance, / to chat in party and , to chat in global. Simples :)

Instead of using the mouse you can type in the following:

/s to speak
/p to party
/a to alliance
/g to guild talk
/c to general chat
/gm to speak to GMs.

You only need to do that to change too, So once your in general chat its just like speaking out loud.

After several months of using the client I don't even notice doing it now.

How about sending a private message to a particular party member? I have yet to find this one out and it would be helpful lol.

We're hoping to get a party manifest in by Publish 66 (not this one coming up, the one after). In the meantime, using /t1 through /t10 will work except you won't know who you're sending the party tell to unless you keep track of the order of the party.

I could very well be wrong here, but this is down to legacy settings? And, if this is the case, I've tried in both positions with no success whatsoever to achieve the above results. It's most irritating!

(I have to confess that the graphics in EC seem to give me a headache and cause a feeling of mild nausea. Not fun, not fun at all)

No these commands work if you have legacy chat on or off.
Of course if you have legacy chat off you must hit enter first then the command and don't forget the space after the command before you start typing

"Enter" "/G" "Space" "Hi guild"

Hopefully the party manifest will have an add party member button too, It took me forever to notice you could right click a character and click 'Add party member' then later on I found /p add works too!

But still.. *grins* A button on the manifest would be very helpful and atleast keep it similar to 2d.

Another thing that the party system needs is the ability to add members not on your screen.

It would be nice if you could add members to your party directly from the guildmenu. (And other options for non guildies)

Petra... I search the Stratics main UO site and could not find this information, it is not in the list of commands page. I remembered reading these posts so searched the forums.

Is it possible to add this information please? My head is now full and don't seem to have room for this.

Thank you for the reminder! Yes I meant to do something about a 'communication' section. I plan to incorporate Mapper's Chat System page, the Communications Crystals the Party System page and a general page including the information you just highlighted and the 'yell' 'whisper' and 'emote' keys in 2D. I'm not sure what they are in enhanced, and I've still not managed to find a way to install it on my pc.
I first need to check the information in the party system page for anything that needs updating.
