This is what Im hearing. So even the folks who want to can't... very strange indeed.
I hate the key gathering, it'sone reason I don't do Travesty or those kinds anymore. When ya get a group and have the urge, by the time ya gather all this up its too late to do it 
If you must have keys, at least kill the timer on em so you can gather keys and then do the spawn when ya want to.

Me and 2 other people have been helping/fishing for my friend who is 120 fisherman TRY to get the spyglass. He does 10-20 fishing quest everyday since it was possible to get the items needed to do that boss. I feel sorry for Devs that make a boss that 95%+ of the players will never be able to have a shot to kill unless they take pity on us and make it easier to get the keys.
from the video i saw (pinco) it looks like an epic boss fight. why would you not want to do it?

I would love to try this boss , however no bait or spyglasses for me since it came in. Thats after somewhere near 400 fishing quests... I eventually quit counting.

Barring someone getting the keys and throwing together a public run? Pretty unlikely.
GL is one of the bigger shards and I'm unaware of anyone doing one. I suppose statistically it's likely one's been done and I just haven't heard of it.

A boss that takes weeks, possibly months of doing one of the most aggravating and boring quests in the game... for EACH time you want to fight it... that is AFTER you did the initial work to get the thing you need to spawn it with, is not gonna get much play. And maddeningly stupid choice to have the bait not even work 100%!
On top of that the rewards are not great.
It will never be fought regularly. Just another casualty of the bizarre design choices in the fishing quests.

and you can only spawn it on a shard once every 7 hours on the entire server. just for that piece of armor? kiddin me?
has to be a better drop than that, and the drop rate needs to be increased iv seen 4 of them sell and the last went for 1 billion gp on atl.

Don't care to waste time on something that hasn't been tested thoroughly. No one has any idea what drops from it, and I'm sure as hell not going to take the time to work a fisher, fish up a ton of useless crap, find some magic rare bate, do who knows what to get a fishing power scroll, then do some unknown champ that no one even knows if the thing even drops loot. I'll stick to killing people with my over powered poison dexer for now. Woopie...

Just 5 charges for a lot of points. 500K points or so. Don't want to make it to easy in compared to the fishmongers quest.

The spyglass locates Charybdis. You need the bait to summon him. (Lure)
The spyglass can be recharged with fishoil.
Ok, so the spyglass is the main grind, then you have to grind to get the bait as well? And the fishoil is something that can be crafted, as I recall? Hm.
The bait seems to be as rare as like a 115 scroll. In other words...really rare.
The spyglass is important but ones you have it you don't need another anymore.
Bait is not that easy. The new fishing suit can be a good combination with the bait.
Fishoil can be crafted by cooks.
I'd love to do one, but like every other fisher, it's just impossible to get the Spyglass and bait in any humanly realistic time. I was planning to run a public Charybdis too... but alas it's not going to happen; I find it more productive to just train greater dragons to sell when I'm in the mood for quiet Ultima time instead of fishing now.

I have been grinding out fishing quests pretty much every weekend since the whole thing began.... and I've yet to either get me a 115 ps or bait or the spyglass....
And if I ever do get one Sixx I'll let you know. As I plan to do this thing several times.

Another reason why imbuing ruined this game. What's the use of going out to kill yourself getting that really uber item when you can instantly create it at your house. It's like hitting the "I Win Button" and then "Game Over".
There's never a "I Win Button" only a "Rinse and Repeat Button"...

Ditto what Malagaste said.. I'm about done with fishing.. can't get the scrolls I need (115/120) can't get the darn crab/lobs I need, Can't get the darn quest I need, can't get the spyglass I need, can't get the bait I need.
.. know what I can get? ShOES! more shoes, and some boots thrown in.. and MIB's.. my god I've got so many of those I can barely stand it!
On top of it you have to try and stay awake! Or did they make fishing somehow exciting now?
The armor, the only known drop from Charybis at this point, would be even MORE useless without imbuing.

We would love to try to fight this new Boss. but as everyone here has stated so far wife and i have done lots of quest trying to get the spyglass and the bait and so far nothing,,, i help the wife fish and crab she turns in the quest. so far she finally got her 120 scroll but since that time nothing in past month as far as a good bait. we love to fish as well as do spawns and hunt with guildies.but have not been doing many quest due to the Grind of not getting anything as of late. heck we done 3 scalis's this week and no one from our group got a single drop..we did though get 2 ghost anchors!!still gonna keep trying as allways but well probably go back to doing spawns and other things more which seem to yeild drops more then the high seas adventure ones. just my 2 cents

My fisherman is a solo character (always has been) and doesn't even have the cannons needed to take on simple pirate or merchant ships yet (though I might end up doing it if it becomes feasible), so taking on an uber-boss creature would be pointless suicide... and then on top of that as mentioned is the insane amount of quest grinding you have to do just to get the items needed to summon said boss creature, and so far the closest to said items I've gotten has been a 105 scroll.
So I can't really say that it's "on the list".

We've done a few Scalis again "lately", took more than 11 white nets each to pull up the last two scalis, and that was with a 120 fisher throwing the nets in. Of course there was not a single drop to be had from any of the Scalis after it was killed. We had done some Scalis runs in the past too but gave up due to not getting drops after all the work involved. Only time anyone got a drop was when High Seas "first" started. After that, never a drop to be seen again.
I'm afraid Chary will be the same way... but still never been able to collect the items required to even try.

charybdis always drop a piece of the healing epiphany set... however the main reward is the tons of fish steak and crab meat that you can find in the loot.

While I have surely been wrong before, and quite recently, I find it extremely likely that there's more loot on this thing than we know about.
With its immense rarity it quite likely hasn't been spawned enough times to get a good significance level yet.

i think they wanted it to be one of those things that by the time you got the spyglass you had enough bait to do it 4 or 5 times..

Orcs are supernatural in origin. Would we really know the difference immediately between a male and female orc? (I've linked to the UO guide, I could swear I first read that material on Stratics years ago but I can't find a link now.)
Even if we would, my impression was always that orcs kept their females locked away for breeding purposes.
