Oh, and you didn't ask this, but it just came into my head, as it relates to ability scores.

Carrying capacity, recalls and quests:

1. Originally, characters were limited to 100 STR max real stat, and that amounted to 390 carrying capacity. This didn't come into play much, with packs of course capping out at 400 stone, and most people had more than 10 stone of armor.

When the ability to go up to 125 real STR was added, people started being overweight less, but running into lack of room in their pack.

Originally, when there were just humans, carry capacity was 3.5x STR+40 (14 of which is taken up by the naked character and its main pack). Elves and Gargoyles still get this.

When Mondain's Legacy was released, character backpacks were increased to 550 stone. Humans got an extra 60 or so carry capacity from STR.


2. Now, one of the things one can find ones self is stranded somewhere, barely able to move, and unable to recall, from being overweight. However, there is a little leeway

a. Take your carrying capacity
b. divide by 100, round down
c. You can still recall as long as your weight is over by this amount

100-199 = 1 stone
200-299 = 2 stones
300-400 = 3 stones (the only exception to this rule, probably from an internal rounding error somewhere, exactly 400 only has the 3 stone limit)
401-499 = 4 stones
500-599 = 5 stones
600-699 = 6 stones (150 STR for a human is 625 stones - there isn't a way I know of to reach the 172 STR needed for 700+ stone capacity, unless the caps have changed).

3. Note that some quests still check the old amounts, not current limits, resulting in their not allowing things like redeeming some BODs, etc. when you have 400+ weight in your pack.
