Changing Tamer Race to Garg?

This is not a post to get people all up in arms and crying for a nerf. But, after reading all the "Tamer Crybabies" posts bashing tamers, saying they have no skill at all. And reading other tamers stating that a GD is a tradeoff for running everywhere. Here is my question.

Changing race to Gargoyle, would that not fix the GD 5 slot issue? Seeming that you can fly at mounted speeds?

Oh and I play my whammy more than my tamers.

If you're only going to use a GD, it might be a good option. However, there are a few things to be aware of:

-You won't be able to ride a cu (or anything else, for that matter).
-You won't get the +20 mana for being an elf.
-You won't get the +50 carrying capacity, nor the 3 mana regen for being a human (that's assuming you don't have Med...if you do, then it's just 1 MR from focus JoaT).
-You'll take a defensive penalty every time your health gets low thanks to the Berserk "ability".
-Currently, earrings and necklace are not medable. This will supposedly be fixed in the next patch, though.
-You'll need a bit of stam regen or focus to cover flying stamina drain. It's less of a problem than it was before, but you'll still want a bit of one or the other (3 SR or 20 focus should do it unless you plan on flying for long distances without pause).
-You won't be able to wear a quiver, crimson, or lieutenant's sash.
-Forgot this, but it's fairly important: you won't be able to use any artifact headgear. Lots of casting tamers run with Kasa of the Ra-jin, Hat of the Magi, or the like. None of those work. Same goes for gloves, but I can't think of any gloves where that would be a major problem (unless you use inquisitor's resolution -- I don't).

Honestly, I believe the main reason people whine is due to jealousy and ignorance. I have a tamer, a mage, a warrior and mules. Do I think one is easier than the other? Certainly not. All of my characters and their templates take skill to play. If someone thinks all my tamer does is say "all kill" and that's it, they are most certainly wrong.

I still think the elf race is best for a tamer since they can tame Cu Sidhes and have 20 extra mana. It's funny but true that most tamers think the Greater Dragon is the end all and best pet to go up against anything they're fighting. Then when you lore some of these Greater Dragons you begin to see that a good amount of them should have been killed in the wild because their resists/skills suck... but ohhh, they got 900+ HP so they gotta be good, right! I have yet to see a tamer besides myself with a Cu Sidhe at Navrey Night-eyes even though her resists and skill level scream to use a Cu Sidhe. So again I believe elves make the best tamers and other pets have their niche as well as Greater Dragons.

Only trammies would say elf is the best, humans can use ALOT more spells and with the right suit can dbl the spell output of a elf.

Only trammies would say trammies. Human and elfs are both better then Gargoyles; for anything other then crafting and bank sitting.

If you alter your tamer to the gargoyle race, do not expect to spend much time in the Abyss. There is no reliable way to drag pets through the new content areas unless you can mount them.

I do it all the time. Using the follow command and then area peacing if too long of a parade starts to form up works well for me (assuming there's no one else around that will be annoyed or get clobbered when area peacing is used).

One thing to be aware of if you do make a gargoyle tamer is that your pets, even a dragon, probably won't be able to use the gargoyle-only flight paths. During beta testing, I could get a GD to fly out over water just fine, but it didn't have sufficient elevation to land on the ruined ends of bridges.

Also, the way things stand now, any pet you take into the Abyss from the Underworld side as a gargoyle probably will not be able to get past the stone guardians. I have some "trailing" pets that will do it, but I haven't yet figured out why they will do it and others won't. Haven't sat and figured out what I might have done differently with the entrance quests for their owners, whether the pet's been all the way through the Abyss already and which direction it went, etc. If you could mount the pet (e.g., a hiryu or cu sidhe), then you wouldn't have to worry about the issue. (And perhaps this is what you are referring to, Syrus--not being able to easily get the pet past the guardians at the Underworld entrance to the Abyss?)

I changed my Weaver/Tamer to a Garg. I love being able to move fast when I want/need to. I`m contemplating dropping Weaving for Mysticism/Imbue. ATM he`s only a 6x template. From what I`ve read (its seems to me?)Mysticism needs Imbue`ing like Magery needs Eval......is that correct? At first I was going to go Myst/Weaver but than read lots of spells depend on Imbue for part of the equation.

Soo not sure. Kind of hard giving up weaving for anything.

I for one am glad they let Gargs have some speed with a Gdragon. All the limitations Gargs have equals it out IMO. I doubt I`d even have a use for the Gargloye race if they were as slow as all the rest with a 5 slot pet.

Flying areas no problem.

"all stay"

Run to area you plan to hunt at...

Log out, Log in, Pet is on top of you. Done.

That is if summoning balls dont work.

Summoning balls do not work. Personally, I don't like having to re-log multiple times while I play. If re-logging suits your style, you may be cut out for a gargoyle.

I understand what you're saying, Tina. I've never had a peacer/tamer - just necro/tamer, archer/tamer, mage/tamer, and weaver/tamer. Thus, peacing is not really an option for me.

Guess what I'm trying to say is, for me, the benefit of flying does not outweigh the benefit of riding.
