Was sitting at my desk and cleaning up old rune books on Napa, now mind you I have to do this on many shards these days as events and places changed over the years. I got to thinking after opening up an old house book. Listed were the house runes for each of my (then accounts were 4)accounts characters. Now back in '97 on Napa most of my houses were small things stone and plaster, wooden, and field stone's.. the 2 exceptions were my tower and castle. Those of which were gotten quite by hard work. I was remembering all the little things that made their houses so sweet. It wasnt for the number count or the storage space in as much as it was a home for that character. Lily my son's tailor had a small stone and plaster which was decked in all things a little tailor maid could use... Noah my bard... his home looked like a music studio.. Fayn's is what every crafter should have at a finger tip... well you get the point.
I'd like to go back to that time. No not year '97 but that era of house placement. After the original house ownership of as many as you can aford on one character was changed to 1 per character. UO had full looking shards and house hunts. Players really miss that look of fullness, I mean if you look out and see vast area an you cant expand to fill it, neighbors would be nice! This idea is with a twist, this time no house can be bigger on secondery characters than the small cottages or plot size 10 x10.
We have so much open space and I am beginning to think this is why many are feeling down. The Dev wanted the players to stop bugging for land...... well you got it. Only I bet you didnt expect the players to stop by leaving the game totaly. By placing limits on many things in the game you have piegonholed many players to the point of sheer fustration. Hence they just toss their hands up and go play some other game.
Id bet if you asked players across the board who want more lockdowns would it help to get a few smalls instead they would jump at it.
Mind you most smalls are 7 x 7 ....so say the cut off is 10 x 10 in plots or up to a sandstone, thats not too big to get out of hand.
So ... how to go about this... well how about a purchase IN GAME of 1 mill per house. This would give you a deed to place a house. (great gold sink) The price could go up as the size does. 10 x 10's and sandstones could be 5 mill. Which would be the top size you could buy. You might say ok... what about the house tool... we could just place from it.... you could but that would put the MAIN house in jeopardy as it would normaly when you place a house and own one too. The ONLY way to get this would be by this method. The Npc already exsists just a small change to the selling menu.......
Now you say ok whats the difference and how does this not hurt my main house... quite simply the Deed will be like a house add on.... like an anex. To use again a small change to the house menu might work. Say you would link it to the main house of your accounts ownership, this is shard spacific... so if you dont own a house on that shard you cant place this.
(yes this is the rub, you cant go off and place houses all over the shards with this one kiddies, would be nice but the dev wont go for it. It would be the same as opening up for house placement anywhere and stop their rule over accounts - cant have that can we....)
Well this was just an idea.... back to cleaning up old runes.... hmm could i talk them to opening up recalling in fel dungeons again??????? would save me alot of time on these dungeon books from fel days...... miss hunting blood eles in fel..
