What causes people to do the things they do?

In some cases, it’s fear, some pride, still others…who knows.

Dramora had no idea what caused Aedon to blow up at Gillian the way he had a few days ago. The two had always been friends, and now they appeared enemies. She didn’t know what had happened to cause the rift, and she really didn’t care. If there was even a remote chance that Gillian could offer even the smallest bit of help, Dramora would swallow her pride and use that help.

Both has been difficult that night, however, Dramora had a lot of practice dealing with difficult people, after dealing with Mikael D’Amavir for as many years as she had. Even though Gillian was most definitely not her favorite person, she was still not even remotely as difficult as Mikael.

Luckily, the two seemed to have calmed down and actually talked with out the childish rants, so hopefully that was a good sign. Time will definitely tell with the two of them.

Gillian had promised to speak with Penrose, whom she seemed to have known long ago.

As far as Penrose was concerned, Dramora hadn’t a clue what caused him to do the things he did. She had been checking into his background, but could find no one yet who could tell her what happened between the time of his apprenticeship with Minalan to the “person” who stood before her now. She hadn’t given up yet, perhaps finding out how he got to be the way he is now, would tell her why he wanted this book so desperately.

Dramora had taken a gamble when she sent Penrose the message to meet her. Anything could happen when dealing with him. But it was something she knew she needed to do. She had considered her own safety, and invited Aedon to the meeting as well. She was happy that he had let her take the lead on the conversation. Unfortunately, Dramora was not so sure it had gone her way. She was VERY careful about how she worded comments to Penrose, so he could not accuse her of lying to him. She simply told him Aedon had no clue where the book was, which was true. When Penrose asked if Aedon knew who had it, she and Aedon changed the subject without answering.

She had offered a different spell if he forgot about the book Aedon could no longer find. He had not agreed but asked to see the spell. At first she had been angry that she had been tricked into giving him that spell, however, the more she thought about it, the more she realized she would have just given it to him anyhow. She was, however fascinated as she though back to the way he seemed to have absorbed that spell. Any other mage she knew cast a spell to use it. He simply read it, and it burned itself into his flesh. She had smelled the burning flesh, but by then it was too late, he had already taken the spell.

Her goal had been to dissuade him from seeking the book she now held, but unfortunately, that did not happen, and he still sought that book. It was only a matter of time before he discovered she was the one who held the thing he wanted. However, Dramora did have another idea, which would hopefully work to her buy a bit more time.

So, what caused people to do the things they did?

In Dramora’s case, it was friendship.
