"Sleep, little one. Sleep". Wrapping the babe in a warm blanket made from the finest of Britannian wool, the dark figure laid the sleeping babe down. Taking a worn charm from underneath their robe, they chanted words too softly to be heard. Reaching down they placed the charm over the babe's head. Picking up the small bundle, silently they crept into Tel Mur.
" Mother...why do I look so different from you?" Caryn asked. Lafoah, looking around from her task of making a basket answered "Caryn, we have been through this many times...You are just different, but still one of us, mayhaps not in appearance, but in heart". Turning back to her task, she saw the troubled gaze in the young girls eyes...human eyes...for Caryn was a human child being raised by Gargoyles in the quiet outlands of Tel Mur.
Being of human descent was not easy on the child, Lafoah knew. She and her husband Agrelam did their best to protect her from the taunts and teasing of the gargoyle children of the city. Caryn had developed her own way of dealing with the taunts; she became reserved and distant from these children, preferring to keep to herself, and not mingle with others.
Frequently through the years, she was seen gathering plants for her gargoyle mother, who was wise in plant lore and use. Caryn herself was learning the way of the herbs and reagents, their uses and the magic that could evolve. She showed great promise in becoming more proficient than Lafoah, it was as if it she was from the human bloodline of Great Alchemist's *The White Robes*
Through the years, as time passed, Caryn still felt as if a part of herself was missing. When she would have these feelings, she could be seen gazing at the charm from the necklace as to see if it would give her the answers she sought. It gave off a warm glow on her skin where it touched, even in the coldest of winters.
As the years past, Caryn became a legendary Alchemist, helping gargoyles, humans and Elves alike, but she never ceased wondering where she came from. And where her fate lay.
