Can't place small forge on steps?

Is this a recent change or has it been like this for a while?

I want to smelt ore without loading the rest of the house...

the restriction has been in place for a while now..... below an example

the east facing (lighter) table will extend into the area that does not allow placement, but the south facing (darker) table cannot be placed on either the steps or first two tiles of the southern edge..... I did not test the eastern edge

I somewhat agree. If anyone has anything currently on their steps they can't move it or it won't go back. I've got my 2 oldest parrots sitting on mine, and they're stuck there permanently unless I want to find another home for them.

That particular restriction was more than likely put in as a scripter deterrent.

However, has anyone tried placing a goza mat on stairs lately?

Yes as part of my testing yesterday Itried placing single goza mats on the front steps of my castle. I had banner deeds placed there that I wanted to pull up so they were visible instead of being lost in the stairs. No go.

Truthfully though I think we have not been allowed to place any kind of deeded item on the steps for quite some time now.

We do have firebeetles, for Connor. You could always leave yours parked on your steps?

if this was, as Shamus said, to somehow slow down scripters, it seems a bit silly.. don't most of them simply drop stuff in a secured container on the steps?
