ok this sucks...cant skill cant make money cant even paint why the heck should anyone want a residence home now its a pointless worthless category like casinos are this is horrible i am very upset here. have residence house do something or just drop it as a category this is wrong it bites i hate this more then windows vista and thats saying something. iether let us skill or continue painting on the easels. or just take out the residence category altogether. this is a horrible change.

I don't know what people at residence lots are suppose to do, chat? YIM and AOL instant mesenger are free for that. So I guess you could add that to the list of things taken away from the game and compare it to the list of things added to make TSO a better game. Share your results.

I hope people who want money objects and/or skill objects to work on their residences -- or any property category -- will SPEAK UP and keep speaking up. I don't think "working from home" will ruin the economy as long as perks are added to make working/skilling more worthwhile on a dedicated lot.

This is something we've had in game "forever" and not something that needed changing, IMO, even considering the "new game" that is being crafted.

From what I see, speaking up won't change a thing. A 10k start up like always sure would be nice compared to 100 bucks or 3k. lol I can see the need for wiping out money, but limiting where money objects and skill objects can be used isn't very right.

I lay odds, residential lots in TC3 will now go back to being open as much as they were prior to easels working on them. About the only one you will ever find open will be the pub, just like before. If the developers can't see what their disabling objects is doing to the gameplay they just aren't bothering to look or more than likely, they just don't give a damn.

I am tired of the battle. It's to the point it all seems hopeless. I can go to other places if I want a virtual chat room. I had hoped to still have my game here but it's just not happening and there is no reason for it as far as I'm concerned, unless they want to push more and more of us out the door. That is exactly what they are doing.

I can't agree with you more frogger, this is absolutely rediculous! We can't make money on a no needs lot, the visitor bonuses are going to be taken away....wth, I don't think it is right to work your sim A$$ off, run a public house for an example, have other players coming to your home to either skill, green after work, eating your food, which you have to pay to replenish, and you can't even get something in return for making it possible for them to have a place to do so. I also feel the reason for the simoleans being wiped from the production cities is acceptable, however if this is how we have to be treated, TAKE TAKE TAKE, why the heck not aleast make it to where we can have some of them to get a place established in TC3? Making a lousy $52 without having to green green green or pay for food with money we don't even have isn't much to ask for!! The fridges don't even come stocked with a $100 anymore LOL!!!!

Residence lots are pointless because you cant exploit it and make money without having to green, ever? Wow. THAT is ridiculous. I love residence lots. I have far more interactions than I would ever have because my skills are 'maxed'. I can hang out, PLAY the game!! (imagine that), talk to friends, green link, red link, play with my cat without it having to poop every 5 minutes, I do plenty of things on residence lots that arent as fun on other lots. I just changed mine to a services lot yesterday because THEY TOOK AWAY PENALTY IF YOU FALL MAKING A CRAFT!! WOW! That is the best update I have seen. No losing money crafting, awesome!!

I think I have to agree with Frogger on this one.
I have a residential lot in TC3 and I haven't been able to finish building. For one my skills aren't maxed. I can't make money while working on my home like before. The way it was set up before, one could make some kind of money and use that towards building. Yes, I know one can visit money lots or get a job, but sometimes it is nice not to have to go out to make the money and then come back to continue working on your home. Also, it can be nice to have some quiet time to build your home. Guess what one has to do now is change the lot catagory to Money. Make some money. Then when you are done building your home, change it to a Store, since the cataloge is slowing going away. Once you have the home furnished and decorated the way you want you can then switch back. Just a thought.
I see where Frogger is coming on this one. Seems like the changes more of a take than a give. Maybe down the road that will change and they will add more than they are taking away.
I admit I am not on as much. I use to be on every day since beta. Since the changes in TC3 I sign in once a week and then log back out. I for one am not to thrilled with the changes.

Painting on residential lots was never intended to be permanent once all money objects were restricted to money lots. Anyone surprised by this hasn't been paying very close attention.

It's only a catagory people. If you want to paint all day, change to the money category. If you want free green all day, stick with residential lots. They do make great places for friend linking and reviving the dead. Anyone is a shaman on a residential lot.

Your home can be in any category according to what you want to do at home. Why make such a big deal about residence catagories?

True, due the Custom Content being on Easels, bug made them usuable.

It was CHEAT actually, you made top bucks with easels.

You should feel ashamed :p.

All those folks that hate skilling can have 'all the emotes' without ever skilling.
Green linking would be easier, red linking would be even easier.
There are some people that like to just run around, frolick and play too.

If players don't like the free green residential lots, no one is forcing them to remain in that category are they?

Maybe I should check and see if the house category classification is broken.

I can think of a few more categories that use this same feature such and the entertainment lot. When we are all lagging up on the dance floor, it would be nice not to worry about peeing on the dance floor or dying of hunger.

It has been stated by a dev(which one I can't remember) that the free green on residence lots was a test. In EALand, non tso lots will be free green. And I believe that it was said that eventually residence lots will become like they used to be with the greening. Just posting what I remember being said, nothing more.

Since the new custom content (bitmaps) will be on the easels......

......everyone that was making money on little residential lots with painting, can now offer the easels for cc makers on your residential lots....if you do not want to switch to a money lot.

LOL...just because you have lemons, doesn't mean you have to make lemonaide...you can make lemon bars, lemon meringue pie, lemon tarts, lemon cheesecake.......

....Ok...now I am hungry...

Sorry. I don't agree with any of this. Playing online means interacting with others. The game was never intended for you to play home alone, make money home alone, buy all your furnishings home alone. I see all the changes to the positive. Players depending on other players for their needs and wants.

With the group dynamic not back in yet, I just feel that players are going to want money houses at first, so they can stay home and work on their homes.

Sure, the house will be probably be open so other players can come in a make money too, while the owner is building and what-not.

This isn't saying "EVERYONE" is going to be doing this, but it seems like a nice choice that people have.

It's nice to be on your own lots sometimes, doing the things you'd like to get done.

Like you, Gracie, I've been playing TSO for many moons so I've had time to see the pros and cons. I disagree with your premise that playing online has to mean depending on other players.

I know TSO was built around group dynamics -- eg, roomies. Players joining together as roomies pool resources and house tending, share income. However, many players -- and I am one -- never enjoyed having roomies (even though I only had roomies that remain, to this day, great friends). As soon as I could, I lived a solitary sim life.

There have been stretches where I spent all my time socializing. And, there have been just as many stretches where I logged in to play alone.

Many people have multiple accounts, and routinely bring in 3,4, even 10 avatars to play at once. This gives the appearance of social interaction and group dynamics when, really, it is one player.

One of the things that appealed to me about TSO was the flexibility of play. We've all been free to set our own goals. Even though social interaction was built into this game, it was never a deal breaker. If I wanted to work or skill at home I could, just at a slower rate.

It concerns me deeply that the mechanics of game play might be discarded at this point. I know a new game is being created, but I think changing the aspects of TSO that weren't broken will be a big mistake. Working and skilling from home, and the ability to play solo if one really wanted to, was a plus in TSO. I think removing that will be weaken EA Land.

I'm all for having aspects of the game where a player could depend on another -- to buy custom content, to play code -- but, I think forcing it is a mistake. I bought the game, I pay for the game, and if I want to play by myself --- I feel that is my prerogative.

I agree to a certain extent that we are currently being "forced" to play the game a certain way. However, if you think back over the years, we have always been forced to play a certain way when it comes to making money. They raise the payouts on pizza machines....you can no longer find anyone to play code with you. They raise the payouts for jamming in groups of 12 higher, then you can no longer find players that want to pizza with you. Currently in TC3 the best chance you have of making money is in a job track because working with others there does produce the best money for the least amount of time spent doing it.

Our ways of making money have always been restricted by the developers. I am hoping that they will be able to come up with a dynamic payout system on all objects and jobs that will give more players more choices when it comes to making money and not being forced into following the current fad or "best" payout.

Once this is done, perhaps it will be possible to open up the use of some objects in other categories that produce smaller payouts than money houses, yet still give players the opportunity to earn some money at home.

Mandi -- online you have options. If you want to play alone, you can, and if you want to throw open your doors and have others visit, you can. Online provides more choices.

Online shopping is very popular, and I love shopping from home. That doesn't mean I don't sometimes like to go to the mall.

Understanding differences means accepting them, Mandi. One thing this game has brought me is contact with folks with waaaay different ideas of how they enjoy playing. The good thing is that they have been able to do their thing, while I've done mine.

With most people it's a matter of degrees.
Some want nothing more than to socialize - use the interactions, chat, goof around, whatever. That is what is 'fun' for them.
Others want to socialize "frequently" but not constantly.
Others want to socialize "often" but not constantly.
Still others want to socialize only now and then.
Everybody has a different way of enjoying the game, and not everyone sees the social aspect as the most important.
Surely you are not saying that those who do not fit into the first category should not be here?

I sincerely hope we are not going to get into another war about the "right" or "proper" way to play the game.

I sure hope not either. I've never once told someone there was a right or proper way to play. I understand everyone wants different things. But it seems like the things some people like about the game are better & more enjoyable in the offline version. The same people that act like their 10 bucks a month pays everyone at EA's salary. It's just cheaper, thats all. The online version was about bring other simmers together & interacting with each other, which is great
But some people dont like to interact with others, therefor I just dont get it. I dont have to understand everything everyone else does, and I dont. Thats fine. Im sure there are people who dont understand me

You might want to try this with multiple players on the same job object again. I've noticed on Chalkboards that each new sim working at the same time adds another $14 to $15 prer sim to the initial $52 payout.

So 2 sims would earn $66 each, then 3 sims would earn $80 each and 4 sims would earn $95 each etc and so on. I couldn't try beyond 4 sims...

I have no problem with anybody who wants to earn money at their own home while hosting.....God knows it can get boring in between cooking and chatting in the 'here and there' conversations and doing serenade rounds, especially in skill houses where chatting spurts really only happen when people are at the computer to green. My issue with the painting thing at residence lots, and I assume the reason it was taken out, is because you do not have to green at residence lots, so ostencibly someone could sit there for hours on end making money without breaks, thus gaining unfair advantage over anybody who chose to go to a money lot to earn the money like the game was set up to do when they are not on hosting duty. In order for this to be put back, they'd have to turn off the maxing of all skills and the free green on residence lots to make it fair, which I'm sure nobody wants, or to somehow make it where you'd lose green if you were on a money object like they do during our free green gamewide weekends, which I'm sure nobody would like either.

So I understand why they have limited money objects to the money category but I think it should be so that roomies of a household not in the residence category could use the money objects to allow them to have something to do while they are hosting. I don't know how difficult this would be to code in game terms, but there's got to be some reason they haven't done it. That's a compromise that would make me, and maybe some others who want to earn money at their own property whether hosting or not, happy. But I do support it not being allowed in residence category because of the free green and skill maxing issue.....and I'm sure if others look at it objectively instead of from the 'I want all the advantages I can get' angle, they'll see it too.

Hmmm. Maybe I misunderstood your intent behind your post when you said you were tired of people trying to tell you how to play your game. I took that to mean that you were one who also preferred to make money alone at your own house rather than to go to money houses as was the intention of the money category, so I was trying to say that I understood both sides......wanting to be able to make money on a non-money lot by single player objects to break up the monotony of hosting vs. why they had to outlaw it because of the issue of no greening on residential lots. Did I misunderstand what you meant and you also are OK with this change?

the issue of a non-greening lot is a test for EAland. Non-tso lots will be non-greening. they chose the residential lots to test it on in TC3. Can't remember which dev said that.

Not being able to do anything on a residential makes the lot catagory useless. I am hoping the testing phase of it being a non-greening lot will come to a close soon.
I can see making the Welcome catagory a non-greening lot. Residential is meant to be able to use it like a 'home'. At least that is what I get out of it.
It would be nice if one can at least skill, even at a slower, if nothing else. This way you can have your sim do something besides standing around with nothing to do. I like having my sim do something while I build and just standing, or sitting, with nothing to do doesn't work well for me.

I play chess on my residential lot, can also be used as a red linking lot or green linking. Sometimes I go to Niki's residential lot and shoot the breeze. Just need a lil creativity to find uses.

CHESS anyone?

What I liked about residential lots was that I could have my "privacy" from the online world, leave and go to other lots if I wanted to, or have others visit me. I could have my "little corner" of the world, where I could build my little house and build it up a little at a time. With motives, at least there was the fun of actually "playing Sims" with someone else at the house too. "I'm hungry", "I'm tired", "Could you turn on the TV", and various other interactions.

Here's an idea for the Devs. They haven't decided what to do with Betaville and Free Will. Why not make the Residential lots "free will" and give the motives back? That will bring popularity back to the category.

If every category could be tweaked and more different than each other, then I think it would be really fun to try out different play styles from category to category.
