yep that's what happened...it's not as big an issue with Prodo shards as Siege I think because it's happening when you walk across server lines. They'll say you abandoned them and then won't pay out after following you to a destination. On Prodo shards most though not all players just gate around city to city on Siege though a large part of the player base is on foot, and honestly when just starting out there Escorts are one of the best ways to make some gold.

Yea, I had it happen to me the other day. I was my fault tho prob. My rune was blocked so I gated to my house and had to hit another rune there to the city and when we got there the escort did not recognize it and went poof ...

I never had that before...
I escort NPC's daily to gain compassion.
I usualy take them to the bank...they usualy recognise the bank.
Looks like that NPC is seriously bugged.

Would say it's "That" NPC except I've have it happen 5-10 times in the past 3 days.

No the NPC is the one with the arrow above it.
He's hiding behind a dead llama.
Did you get the bugged escorts from the same place?
Or several places?
I usualy take NPC's from Cove..
Happens to me all the time.
Escort missions, generally, are bugged.
They are far more likely to recognize the center of town than they are the bank.
Not a single NPC I have ever escorted has ever recognized, for example, the Yew Bank. What they recognize is the area near the Heartwood entrance (where Joylah's ceremonial fire used to be on LS), or someplace between the center of town and the Moongate. They have never recognized the Yew Bank for me.
For Skara? It's been 50/50 for me on the bank. But they've almost always recognized Skara on the way from the Moongate to the Town Center.

No the ones for yew , don't want you to drop them off at Yew Bank.
They want you to drop them off on the road to Yew town.
I drop most of them at the bank...unless i notice they don't recognise the place, then i take them further into town and keep running around till they recognise the place.

I don't even bother with the bank. I walk the escort right by the animal pens and they drop the 500 gold on me with no problems.
He's hiding behind a dead llama? It looks to me like he's in animal form/hidden. WHich means he accepted the escort and then instead of actually gating the escort, he led the escort through the moongate and came out in Skara, where the NPC then got bugged. Which will happen from time to time when you try to escort that way..
The best are the ones asking to go to Magincia..

Yeah I'm the Llama and this is on Siege...you can't Recall, and alot of the people can't gate.

Sometimes Ive had to actually walk them into the building for them to recognize they are there.
Technically they are supposed to recognise where they are once the cross into the guard zone of the specified town. Yew and Magencia ones dont work. Yew ones havnt worked for years.
The last week or so ive been finding them to be a little more temprimental and needing to be walked a screen or so to realize where they are.
Oh and a tip for eveyone. If you do your compassion in the little locked up cage in the orc dungeon (not sure exactly where it is as i was just given a rune there), you dont have to wait the 5 mins between escorts. You can have your compassion done in 5 mins.

not only that,, theres a typo over in the NPC dialog box, claiming they are not in "skara" instead of "skara brae"

If you somehow lose contact with the escort (it says that it has been abandoned - typically occurs when you get too far ahead of it when crossing a server line), it will still follow you for quite some time if you go back and reacquire it - it just won't deliver (bug where it isn't going away when "abandoned").
Yew has always worked on some shards. Yew has worked since the restoration of Yew on all shards - people just don't seem to get that Empath Abbey is technically NOT Yew. Take them towards the Heartwood entrance and they'll deliver.
And, yes, I have created a dummy character before on at least one shard where "Yew escorts don't work" and delivered them fine.
