Can you PM in UO?

I am not 100% on all features added to the game over the years, so I am wondering, did they ever add a PM function in UO where you could send a message to another player directly over long distances? (apart from com crystals)

Other than leaving messages on a bulletin board, or leaving a book in a mailbox, there is not a way.

Well, that sucks, bad that UO doesn't have one of the cornerstone features of other MMOs

Actually, I believe you can. I have received PMs before from other players and replied by doing /r (text). This was within the last two months.

However, I've had trouble replicating it, and only got it to work on the SA client.

There was a method in KR that carried over into SA/EC, but it is not a completed system and no instructions have been given on it...

And since we all know that LC does not use the EC, I did not think it worth mentioning...

Years ago they tried to implement a PM system via "mailbags." It didn't really work out and it got canned.

Honestly a proper PM system shouldn't be so hard for them to make all things considering.

I've always liked the no PM system only because it allows us to make characters and not worry if the name is taken, and also because it forced people to show up at my house looking for me.

You can easily have a PM system and still have non-unique names.

While having to run around looking for people can be good in a tiny fraction of scenarios, then for the most part its senseless time waste.

Nothing more annoying than people you need to get a hold of, but have no way of getting any word to them.

It's like the 70s when you used to go round to your mate's house and knock on their door and ask if they could come out to play.

seeing how the chat system works, with everyone having a number tied to them. I think it would be pretty easy to apply a friends list, and go from there. Hell, run it like AIM. be able to set yourself as online, offline or invise. So people who don't want PMs won't get them. I don't see how that would make anyone unhappy.

I live right by a middle school, and it makes me laugh everyday watching groups of 5+ kids walk down the street all texting people hah

Except in the 70s your mates were recalling off into dungeons or log out of existance.
