Can we have some basic maintenance?

I just hate the feeling that things are sort of falling apart in tiny increments and that nobody over there is taking the time to fix them.

* Can we have gypsy spawns back? Someone added tents to them for no good reason, tents that ended up deleting crap out of people's houses, and the eventual response was to just end gypsy spawns altogether. Remove the tents and turn them back on.

* How about red healers back in Tram facets? Those quit spawning too. I think people killed them for some quest or something.

* We could use Paladin NPCs back, they were randomly deleted from UO for no earthly reason I can imagine.

* Can someone please fix the map? There have been random segments of grapevine growing outside of Haven Atlantic for months. I know there have to be other glitches like this too.

Them there grapes are outside of Haven in LS too. I'd also like to note that the elven NPC's in Haven seem to have their wigs skewed on a fairly regular basis. If you open up the chick who has blue hair, her wig is a couple of inches off to the left at any given time....

GrimmOmen, I know you are working on that graphics upgrade, I have taken my daughter's college fund and bet it on you in Vegas... better make it a goodie! ;)

P.S. - No pressure, she can always join the army....

Oh I know but when I said something about getting a clean up in another post I was told I was being silly...

I mean how many things of Stew have you seen laying all over the land???? How about water troughs????? TOO Many!

Portraits, statues, sledge Hammers.... all littering the lands blocking placement of homes and so forth...... and now a plague of cannons all over the sea.

I'd page and get them removed but I don't have 5 hours to wait for each and every item I find.

One would think they'd have fixed the Stew issue years ago considering the number of GM calls over the years to remove it. At least water troughs you can now drop a house on to delete.

Oh and don't forget the damned closed solen hole debris left everywhere that blocks.

Stew.

Cannons.

Pirate poles.

Portraits.

Parrots.

Watertroughs.

Tapestries.

Banners.

Barkeepers (in whatever guise they take).

They all need to decay if not in a house or on a ship. Really there is no excuse.

At least we can axe stray water barrels... Yay...

I totally agree, they should take a step back from implementing new content for a while and fix all the little things that went wrong.

What most of you don't seem to realise, is that theres a meta-physical reason they push this new content...

Ah Avatar, forgetfullness be your dread...

People think to this day the Paladins might have vanished from the game due to a glitch...

really... :hahaha:

I like the fact that stew does not decay ... rofl
UO version of Twinkies?

UO is like an old house ... the beams creak, walls are patched, paint is peeling and the appliances are all out of date altho functional.

So what happens IRL to that house? One of 3 things: torn down and turned into a park; gutted and rebuilt finer and more current that ever before; patched one more time.

Take your pick, people ... but be prepared.

There's a dead Ogre floating in the water just east of Haven as well. He's been there since the day I logged in... must be pretty ripe by now.

Come to think of it, there aren't even any ogres on the entire island... just Ettins. How'd that sucker get there?

Mystery is afoot!

Remember back when KR came out? And they had to run a huge script to redo all the tiles in 2D to make things compatible? But somebody messed up and only gave the script something like 12 tile types? And it ruined the landscape in 2D? And they said they were going to fix it? And they did fix it about half way?

When exactly were they planning on finishing the job?

Oddly enough I have just gotten used to the abnormalities, but I could see some use of cleaning things up a bit. Maybe hire a player or two per shard and run a true bug report to em and have em clean it up.

Call it a temp position and 1099 it, not that difficult honestly.

Not sure about the plant crossing thing - not heard/seen it mentioned

but ive used the gardeners toolbox a few times lately and it seems to be functioning properly?

Agree we need a huge round of bugfixes next

I have to agree with Kayne on this one. If they can't even maintain what they have running now, there's no realistic expectation to get better new content, now is there?

Besides, there's plenty of content that they can use if they just tweek it a bit to revitalize it.

By whose standards? Also given you know absolutely nothing about me other than my UO stratics user name you have no basis on which to form such an opinion.
Perhaps by the standards that he can recognize humour?

I say that if it doesn't impede your game play in any way it really isn't an issue.

Sure tiles missing or things sprouting up where they shouldn't be are unsightly, but in the overall scheme of things a missing tile or two on the ground in the middle of a forest doesn't effect my game play at all so shouldn't be an issue.

Now the grapevines are right in the middle of a path so should be removed, water troughs and the like that block housing placement should be removed, things that actually affect the world should be fixed, I have come across my share of missing tiles and things where they shouldn't be, but since it doesn't really keep me from playing I don't really mind at the moment.

Oooo, ouch! I think this just goes to the mounting pile of evidence that the players are collecting which points towards EA/Bioware/Mythic not caring to maintain the property that they own. Neglect is a sign of carelessness and I don't think it would be unreasonable for one of these guys to log on once a week and take a walk around to look for these sorts of things.

Unfortunately it's the minor things that really stick in the craw of a customer. The devil is in the details, as they say....

The cannons floating on top of the water everywhere where the new ships have sunk is kind of rediculous.
Telling the npc on a ship to start tracking and have 99% of the arrows direct me to someones house because they have a ship locked down is also stupid.
You would think something that cost more like High Seas would have been worked on a little more.

You put it perfectly.

These are "minor things"

From what I read in this entire thread non of the minor things mentioned is game changing/altering. The worst I see is the possibility of a blocked house placement & that has been happening since day one of Uo so why the outcry now?

When will the "pretty" people get it in their heads that Uo has NEVER been about the graphics and bull**** details?

You have been playing long enough to post a billion times on these boards yet you just dont understand that or wont let it sink in? Kinda scary IMO

If anyone out there feels like they're in danger of taking a Goldberg post seriously, I advise them to go look at his posting history. Just a page or two. All he does is run around to every thread on Stratics telling people to STFU about everything. People who don't like bugs, people who don't like hackers, people who are having account problems, people with any sort of opinion about anything should all shut up in his book.

Ahuaeyjnkxs deranged ranting holds more value.

Anyway, UO has always been full of bugs but lately they're piling up so high that it's damaging the perception that this is a serious commercial MMO staffed by people with a clue.

This would be why UO's standards never improve.

But sadly enough, the "happy few" who've worn the tinted specs, are now the very same ones peppering these boards with complaints about what the game has become, or where it's headed, if indeed that's anywhere at all.

Interesting how things work out...

I guess maybe it's my nature to be bothered by things like .... Stew being left behind everytime a house falls with a boiling cauldron in it.

I'm a Laboratory technician... it's I suppose in my nature to wish perfection. I take pride in my work. I suppose I expect others to do the same... therefore if something is obviously "flawed"... I expect it to be fixed.

Also I somewhat think of my shard as my "home"... in a sense. I feel like the Native American in the old commercials from the 70's looking at the trash thrown all over the planet and crying. I hate seeing debris all over the land. I fix what I can... like destroying waterbarrels where ever I might find them... But I can't remove the stew... I can't destroy the water troughs... I can't pick up the portraits or the cannons (lord knows I wish I could!) I wish there was a way to "salvage" things like that.

I find it irritating when I'm looking for "lost" items to have dozens and dozens of things lying about all over you can't pick up. You ever notice the random watertiles? Hundreds of them. How about clusters of "rock"?

Where they once temporary fixes? How Temporary are they if they are still there 12+ years later?

Each shard has it's own uniqueness... but I just wish I could fix mine. What I wouldn't give to have the power to fix my shard. What I wouldn't give to be able to replace missing tiles... To be able to pick up all that junk... to be able to breathe some new life into the land. Add some beauty here or there...

Ah tis a dream.

The fact that you absolutely compared your shard in a virtual world to your actual rl home is just awesome!

Is it any wonder that you are incessantly posting about little things that irritate you?

When you go to a virtual world to escape your real world & discover that it isnt perfect it must be a real kick in the nuts :(

new content > aesthetics/non-issues
Except they aren't aesthetic issues.

Stew, Solen holes, and portraits all block house placement and require GMs to remove.

Cannons, and pirate poles block boat placement, movement, and access.

PS Martyna Zmuir, parrots do decay and don't block placement, they just take a day or so to go poof, at least the ones from houses anyway.

i didn't say they were, but some of the things brought up in this thread do fall under aesthetics. the things you bring up would fall under non issues because they are not effecting game play.

Non issues? Not effecting game play? Them blocking people from resizing or placing their houses or placing, moving their ships, getting close enough to the dock to complete a quest is the very definition of effecting game play...

I've placed over dozens of parrots, they all decayed. It sounds like the one you are talking about thinks its still inside the previous house and similar to the items you see under house signs that say (locked down) even though the home owner can't unlock them. Happens when placing a new house over items still locked down at an IDOC after the house fell. Some items get stay thinking they are locked down still after the house is gone until you move them then you see the no longer locked down message. So that sounds like a different one of the hundreds of unfixed bugs.

To remove a lot of this stuff they could just have us the players find them and have a small GM team work some OT to delete it as we find it. Shard by shard. It would probably be pretty cheap.

Very cheap actually. 1099 it out even. Heck hire 1-2 people even if it took them 6 months (40-50hrs a week). I mean its really not that difficult. It's really just a matter of giving a crap.

They have to decide what message they want to send to their paying user base. Either way it doesn't matter, a message is sent whether they want to send one anyway. You can never make everyone happy.

Several people are doing a good job, some are not. This particular example is easily fixable. Just a matter on whether they want to do it or not.

I would love new content but I am perfectly content to stay where we are if they take a break from that for their own "Clean up UO" event.

Pft! I'd do it for free! No payment, no free account, nothing. I'd volunteer 5 hours a week of my time to wander around and answer tickets for these 'floaters'.

Someone get them the message! I volunteer!

I could do that too Ned. I wonder if they would let us look behind that particular veil. My guess is not. Of course we can go and list all the places they are making it really easy for them to finally delete them.

Agreed. I'd be happy to give them one hour a night and a character slot devoted only to removing stuff that is left 'floating' places.

It would take a large burden off of the GM's since they wouldn't have to answer these tickets any longer and we could start cleaning up the place a bit!

Really, they should just make these people councilors and just give them the ability to delete stuff. Not add, not change, just delete.

They could whip up an NDA if they were worried about people seeing 'the man behind the curtain'. I'm just interested in making the game better!

Maybe we could actually pitch doing that with a petition. As long as we sign something legal saying we are entirely volunteers it could work. I could get a legal document stating such for PA. Not sure if that would cover the rest of the country.

They could put something on a website that we have to accept in order to receive the status required to delete. Let them worry about the legalease, we would have to collect volunteers and submit the suggestion to 'Da Man' as it were first.
