I am sure you know by now the 13th Anniv leather tubs could be easily converted to dye cloth. This was done by an exploit, bug or whatever you want to call it. Me and more than a few others were wondering what steps if any were going to be taken.

What really makes the difference? It's not exactly a game stopping problem, let the folks have their white cloth, geez.

I'd like a clear answer on this too, my preference is an in-game quest to 'convert' your tub to cloth, but a definitive 'we're letting this one pass', or 'we will delete the modified ones' would be useful.

Since those already in the game have almost certainly been used to make masses of cloth, and there are public ones set up for folks to use, it seems a bit late to try policing it out of existence - and that's never worked on 'illegal' items before so trying again seems pretty silly, really... best would be, if it's not a game-breaking item, to just make a legit way for it or it's equivalent to exist and move on.

Got a feeling nobody here ever played UO before. Why ask obvious questions. Why bring up obvious points. Why even bother asking for clarification. Is everyone sure you are playing UO? You know how it goes. you know how it works. you know what will happen. You know how to benefit. You know how to lose out on it. Good luck

Like the exploited black faction horses,

the doggy duped Europa gold cloth,

the doggy duped Umbra necro robes,

the exploit will be allowed to remain ingame until the exploiters have amassed XX amount of millions

and then it will be removed and non exploiters will either be forced to pay the exploiters to acquire the item or be excluded from that part of the game.

As Aurelius mentioned an in-game quest to 'convert' your tub to cloth would be great, and possibly another quest to 'convert' to metal?

perhaps there may be changes to metal armor in a future, to make it worth using.

Slave Girl - But unlike all those examples, this time a few folks have made the item publicly available for anyone to use - which means the 'exploiters' stand to make nothing at all from it, if it is deemed a legal item and it, or an equivalent, will be allowed to remain in the game.

The only way the 'exploiters' win is if the item, or what it produces, stays in the game as incredibly rare, and therefore valuable, without any alternative being made available that would destroy the profits from keeping one at a stroke.

That may be a nice idea, But takes dev time. Easiest thing they can do is say the cloth ones are legal and post on UO.com how to do it.

anyway... I agree it's not that big exploit ... but... I admit I don't like someone can do something like that and get no punishment. Sometimes I remember the politicians of my country (italy)...eheh I think the world is for the clever bronze-faces ones.
Surely this won't help EA to get my 6 months gametime fee when the actual 90 days expire. I see nothing changes here... year by year, since 1999 ....

It just makes me wonder if these "exploits" get put into the game BY devs. Not just an accident but done deliberately so either they or the friends they tell can make the massive gold the exploiters rake in. We all have heard and know how some if not all of the dupes and exploits work. Someone would have to be severly bored to try the different combinations and stuff it entails to just run across them. I know on Atlantic it's usually one of about 8 people that happen to run across them. Just seems strange to me is all.

This is the worst money-making exploit ever. Just go get a billion bolts of cloth and find a public tub. Bam you're set forever.

Already heard claims of one guy on chat profiting 100m before the public tubs were available.

-So it was profitable and they need to make a public announcement?

I will agree this paticular one would be the worst one ever. ONLY because word got out on it very fast. There have been ones in the past that were worth billions though. Or do you doubt that?

Thing is someone may have made millions or what not but it did not generate millions of gold going on to the servers. Unlike the ingot exploit or what not.

In my opinion, a better solution would be just to introduce the item (officially) into the game and make it easy to acquire. By cutting off the supply after many people already own the item just lets the "exploiters" win. For example, the maker of this thread may have made the thread about stopping production on them after he got his. Just a thought...

Tar and feather the holders of them and stake them in the center of the town squares for a week. Give everyone else a stone in their pack and we can stone them.

Once the devs decide that the exploiters have amassed their target of XX amount of gold or in this case XX amount of white leather dyed bolts of cloth, and they turn off the ability to make more, veteran players who return to UO afterwards will be forced to pay the exploiters to obtain the cloth or do without.

(I'm not worried about new players being forced to pay the exploiters because UO doesn't get any new players).

Just a stroll down memory lane here... As many of the older Vets can remember and will tell you about... How do you think we ended up with black dye tubs? That's why there are two versions of the black dye tub. One is the pre-vet reward exploit tub made from the naughty or nice lump of Christmas coal!
I say let them make all the white cloth dye tubs they can pump out. Then release the tub as a Vet reward. Problem solved again.

Just add it to the special dye tub selection option.

the problem is not the exploit, the money or so. the problem IS: MAKE IT A PUBLIC, APPROVED TRICK - OR- PUNISH THE TRASGRESSORS.
The actual devs behaviour is ... in italy we say " to have the face of a ...part of the body".

I also think the neon tub and other exploited stuff is something made to advantage some friends of some dev's. Think about that... fixing a dye tub and a bug makes a neon one to come out? eheheh nice novel.
They just have to know that these things killed the game. Personally I played only 48 months since 1999. Im pretty sure I stop again when my 90 days expire.

I would like the option to make a white cloth tub. I have no idea how these tubs were made. If they are allowed to remain, I'd like the ability to get one so I am not dependent on those that used an exploit.

Why not just make it so the existing white tubs can dye leather, cloth, and arties... an all-in-one tub that removes the need for distinct white leather and white cloth tubs. I'd like the ability to get an exact color match for arties too.

Who cares? Argh.

Its not like you need more then a robe.

Whose gonna get rich (in game) over this. No one.

Its another matter of I wanna cause he hassa.

Heres a tip. Anytime there is something new... DONT BUY it for a week.

In this case in a day you would have seen the entire group of luna go white.

This game slays me.

people were spamming it in Luna Bank on Atlantic.
Yeah, that same one had taken steps to ensure he actually wound up with the cloth tub tho :)

The only tub I know of on Atlantic that was public to use no longer dyes cloth. However, the cloth I dyed with it yesterday still has the color.

Everyone relax.
Im sure players made bizzillions of bolts.
In a month youll find it for 25k or 50k a bolt.

Just like the spider silk white cloth that no one wants. So will this white cloth become.

Yep, it has been reverted. Sorry folks, I made it a public dye tub so everyone could benefit. Hopefully folks did!

What exactly did they win?
10000 bolts of white cloth?
Worthless gold?
Cover of Forbes Magazine?

What did they win?

So rather than make something useful out of a mess (which arose largely because of the zero testing done on the 13th anni items, but hey, it's cheaper not to bother...) they have yet again gone for the worst possible quick 'fix' that leaves people who made the thing and used it better off than those who did not, and stops a nice way for people who wanted having any of the cloth item drops dyed white as well.

Certainly reacted fast to it though - was that what's been making the servers crash, or causing the shedload of bugs in HS, or maybe making the gamecodes site mess up for people? I suspect the answer to all those is no, but it's much easier to 'fix' something that really does not matter.

They could have come out of this looking quite good - instead, I swear, EA must have competitions to think up the most asinine ways to address everything.......

The hundreds of bolts I had a friend dye for me will make me a fortune even at that price.

Anyway, everyone should have known right away that they weren't going to ban for this. About 75% of Atlantic was wearing white cloth the first night the bug really went public. What were they going to do, ban the entire game?

It was a harmless bug that didn't really hurt anything. You guys shouldn't cry just because you were too scared to cash in like the rest of us.

Please don't lump everyone under that banner. I'm sure I'm not the only one who didn't sell -any- of the cloth or tubs and who immediately made their dye tub available to the public.

If they ever said that, then they are lying or just don't know how.

Really.

Everything in the game is in a database. You have numbers that correspond to other numbers. True, it probably would be a pain the the arse doing all the inner joins, outter joins and linkage to cover all your bases, but if you get paid to do it, do it right.

Especially since they just supposedly came out with this 'new' color for this tub. While it might take a little effort, there is no reason they couldn't take any cloth dyed with the new dye tub and set it back to it's original color.
ie- where item = cloth & color = newWhite set color = originalColor or even where item != leather & color = newWhite set color = originalColor

Then again, they could have done this type of thing before with all the other exploits and haven't.

Skrag its not nearly a fortune. And the 100's of bolts you have are the same as the 1000's of bolts others have. And the gizzillin robes dyed - people have... Are all going to be put on vendors and sit there. Sure youll sell some bolts here and there.

How do I know. I have a bizzillion AOS dyed bolts and items. They have been sitting for months at what price 25k for 10 bolts.

You wont be making much. 25k x 500 bolts is 12.5 million. Sound nice. Try move 100 of them. Ah well. Well all have a billion gold in items. It aint nothing till sold.

Till then you can hug your white bolts before you go to bed and dream of virtual wealth.

Good luck.

If you havent noticed White is out.... no one i know buys the robes and clothes from the spidersilk quest making anymore... its dead.
SO why the fuss.
I knew the tubs would be fixed and in truth so did you all. I just hope the players who got scalped for gold didnt spend too much. Dev need time to find the bug in the programming so the fix was slow but I knew from over 13 years in this game "it" meaning the code fix was comming as fast as their little dev fingers could go.
Enjoy the little you got if you got some and go on playing.
