Baja has a mailman and now everyone is afraid to get their mail. Apparently a few letters have exploded and the recipients have not fared well.

there used to be a "mail bag"
(in the keystone position on the frame of the paper doll)

and it was purported to be able "to send" some text to a designated player
*shrugs*
there were problems
it was discontinued

What are you inquiring about? (need some linkage)

If you can, how is it done? If not then that's lame...
The mailbox you lock down at your house is for incoming mail only. It's a way for folks to drop items off without having access to a lockdown chest.

Setting them up can be a bit tricky... if you want friends to access the box it needs to be set up properly. If you just set it to anyone, then your mail can be stolen. Also if you set it up wrong, then others won't be able to drop items into it. *EDIT* What Petra said works.

If you're not talking about the house mailbox, then what are you talking about? Be specific when you post questions.

Also, there are chat channels that you can use to talk to folks. If you want to talk to specific people, you can use guild or party chat. Obviously the other party would have to be a member of your guild, or partied to you.

Hope that helps.

You can't send mails from one mailbox to an other but can leave a mail in a mailbox if you can access it, just buy a book and write your message in it and drop it in the mailbox of the one you want to give a mail.

It would be nice with a better mailsystem, so you could send an order to a crafter, then he could send you your wares and add a price you need to accept/pay to get your wares.

To set up a mail box so that anyone can leave mail.
The house needs to be 'public'
The mailbox needs to be set 'secure'. The security setting you chose denotes who can take items out of it. Whatever that setting is, anyone who has access to the house can drop items into it.

Rats, so my mailboxes in Fel don't work since my fel houses are private. Boo.

In terms of a universal mail system, it would be complex to figure out how to do it since we don't have unique names on a shard (like WoW does).

Best way we could do a mailbox system would be to have a friends list, where you add a specific person manually to the list (via targeting). That'd save the ID of that avatar internally against that name. You could then select that person in the list, click a "send mail" button, and it'd ask you to enter text. Enter the text, hit send, and the message could appear in their pack, possibly with a mail icon telling them they have mail (and linked to the item so clicking said icon opens the mail).

...not that I've thought about this, or anything.

Really? My mailbox is full waiting on the mailman to do a pickup, I've put tons of checks in the mail. Go figure, there's no snow, sleet, nor dead of night in Zento... he's not getting a holiday gift from me this year. My publishers clearing house check still hasn't arrived, and don't get me started on the missed Soap Opera Digest! the bastage.

We have unique identifiers though. We could have a messaging system if they wanted it. Somebody mentioned the mailbox messaging thing that was used to pop-up messages for people who won houses in the New Magincia lottery. It could be done.

No need to be rude.
I thought they were being sarcastic in light of WoW and the differences between it and UO. I must have missed it.

I thought when they came out the Dev team was going to use them to send things to us because then you could just send an item to every mailbox that's placed and not have to worry about signatures.

It would be a nice tool for EMs to send messages of events.

During Halloween people used our mailbox to place pumpkins in but I had no way of knowing where to place the pumpkins I had.

I don't like the mailbox look but I like the idea of being able to look into the mailbox and find something that has been sent to you.
