Can small forges still be placed on steps?

I just placed a 2 story house and I wanted to place a small forge on the steps like I use to. I got the message that I could only place the forge in a house that I owned. So can it still be placed?

The other question, assuming customizable house - is the house block stairs or the block because as I recall it needed to be a block,but I could be remembering wrong.

It is a classic stone and plaster L shaped house.

You can use a decorative carpet, if you don't have a grass or snow tile.



@Kayhynn It works on custom-built houses as well. Didn't try on block, only on stair tile.

Thought I would let you know that I did the quest and got my piece of carpet. Placed it on the step and placed the forge. Thank you very much for making my mining so much easier.

Btw, you can place it directly on a block, no tricks needed.
