LOL, well, since I have never owned one, never used one...this is news to me.

That being said, reds and other player killers like to stake "their" land. If you come to steal our resources we are going to make sure it is difficult to do so. The other things about fire beetles. I have had miners rez, then "all kill" their bug towards me. Why should I risk being attacked by one of those things. It's much easier to take care of the bug, and let the miner rez it somewhere else...la
ohh my god that must have scared you whitless being attacked by a tamed firebug..... ROFL the excusses you guys come up with TRALALA...
It's a game. It's called tactics. If you don't want to be attacked, stay in Trammel. It's actually pretty simple stuff. If you come to Fel, expect to lose everything, expect to be killed, expect to have your pets killed.

Taking that in mind, if you don't expect those things to happen, you are fooling yourself...la

See, this is exactly why I argue that the log out/log in feature not be removed from the game.

Most so-called PvPers that go on and on about getting rid of it want to do so because they want to grief players...just like this.
Oh BS...get a pet ball...problem solved.

Why did he do it? The same reason PKs attack blues 99.99% of the time.
He gets his rocks off ruining your evening and causing you trouble. Making a stranger unhappy makes him feel big.

I doubt the measley amount of insurance money from a miner is cause enough for someone to PK them.

To get their loot, or in the case of the production shards...to get their insurance money?...la
A fringe benefit, at least on production shards.

Like it's worth that 2,000 gold to spend hours looking for someone to gank. There's a lot more lucrative ways to make money in UO.

The loot argument is laughable nowadays with item insurance and EA blessing everything.

I've always maintained the #1 driving force for PKs is the fact that they are lording their cool stats over other players and the satisfaction they just smashed a warm target. The money angle may have had a leg to stand on back in 98 (especially when keys to houses were around), but now it's ludicrous to cite that as the reason to PK.

Well, see there's the little thing with me playing on Siege. When running around on my red accounts...I kill on sight. I don't worry about what their template is, what gear I have on, or what loot they "may" have on them. If I kill them, I worry about the loot when i am picking through their corpse. If they have good stuff, bully for me, if not...oh well.

It has nothing to do with wanting to hurt someone's feelings or to ruin their night. It's a game. It's a game that allows you to kill other players. Some people choose to kill monsters...many of us though prefer to look at other players as the monsters. They have far better AI than the monsters the devs have provided...la

I'm still of the opinion that they need to add a text box anytime someone enters Fel. The warning gump would say something like this;

"You are about to enter a PvP free zone. By clicking the "Yes" button you acknowledge and accept the fact that your character can be killed, looted, humiliated, peed on, made fun of and all sorts of other events that will test the thickness of your skin. Please do not enter this realm if you are just going to cry when something unexpected happens"

Not direct at the OP, but it gets really old listening to people whine like children when something negative happens to them in a rule set which was purposely designed to allow anything to happen.

Sad to hear about youre loss. Here is a suggestion, make a miner that can fight ?
120 Magery
120 eval
120 Wrestling
120 med
120 Resist
100 mining.

Get an all 70 resist suit, around 70 DCI, 40 lmc, 100 lrc,2/6 fc/fcr
And now u can have fun killing miner-killers all day long, and do remember to kill their mounts, if they aient using ethys.

Again, back in the day, before the item insurance, I could definitely see the logic in PKing (although I never did actually PK another player).

After all, players are bound to have a LOT better loot than any monster in the game. A player can farm gold which will then be yours for the taking. And unquestionably the biggest motivator back in the day was to get ahold of a key. Because then untold riches could be yours at the expense of another player.

But now it means nothing to get into somebody's house. And now everything is blessed and insured. I know Siege is a different story but on the production shards, something else is fueling the PKs who go out to kill other players. It sure isnt the pay.

I guess you could mine naked and just use recall scrolls in your rune book. I guess most runebook have 16-20 recall charges which should be enough if your mining along the face of a mountain range with fire beetle and not recalling all over the place. Have extra recall scrolls along with pet ball in bank box. Fire beetle should be strong enough of a fighter to protect you against serps, gators, and mongbats. If you needed just a little more protection, then you could probably throw on items from loot or just some armour that your crafter made. It shouldn't be that hard to get a junk suit with resists in the mid 20's or higher.

That won't make a difference. People will still complain about being PKed.

There's nothing your miner MUST have in Felucca. Going there will give you richer resources, but you don't have to go there. If you do go to Felucca, you run the risk of being PKed.

Back to the OP, when I mine in Felucca:
#1 - I never bring my Fire Beetle. In fact when I mine period I only dismount when I'm sure there are no hostiles around. Because untrained Fire Beetles are about as tough as a geriatric mongbat.
#2 - Make sure everything is insured.
#3 - Mine until you are full, recall back to Tram to smelt and store. It eats up Recall Scrolls but they're cheap.

You might say so, but your not that miner now are ya?

I do agree that 9 times out of 10 anyone wandering around Fel you will be killed onsite which I still cant see the logic in it. Most times everyone's items are insured. What are you looting stealing ingots? Geez.

My opinion on reds is this, they are disgruntled people who have been hurt too many times in game. Therefore must feel its necessary to attack a character that cant even defend themselves.

So be it! cant change what has happened. I remember when it was just "Felucca" days. It wasnt as hardcore as it is now. It was fun back when. People had respect for others. Yes there was PVP but there was also alot of teamwork. Not "oh I was bored so I figured I kill ya". And yes its a game. We all are well aware of this. Its just my feelings about this whole post.

As for the Miner I feel bad for you but you know hanging in Fel and losing your bug and all isnt worth all the trouble. Just stay in Tram. You'll be doing yourself and your firebeetle a favor. Good luck!

...from ruining the fun for other people like miners.
People actually have FUN mining?

And your dress was lost due to what many people call "the insurance bug". Sometimes when you die, for no known reason, you'll drop items that are insured/blessed. EA still hasn't figured it out, and it's been going on for years now. I don't think it was intentional on his part, as nobody has been able to successfully recreate it yet (including the devs).

It has nothing to do with wanting to hurt someone's feelings or to ruin their night. It's a game.
Best post I think I've ever seen on UHall. Some people like the "thrill of the hunt". Personally, I won't play any game (PC or console) that doesn't have some form of online multiplayer. Fighting bots gets old reeeeeeeeeeeal quick.

Moon, I don't know that it's that complicated of an issue. I don't think PKs are recidivists taking out frustrations on other players.

The fact of the matter is quite simple. Being a bully is fun. It's reaffirming. It generates a sense of power.

Who cares that I smashed some dragon controlled by AI, a shadow generated on my computer screen. It's more satisfying to gank some easy target and cause some random stranger misery because he is utterly at my mercy.

Yes, Trammies cry like babies about being PKed. Just like the PKs cried like babies that their easy bully targets were now gone and only people who were prepared to fight would be showing up.

I love it when someone labels everyone who chooses to PvP as being disfunctional teenagers living in their parent's basement.

All your statement does is make you sound like an uninformed biased moron.

ROFL. Feel free to have that opinion, even if it is based on false premises. I play on Siege, so there is no Trammel. I kill reds and blues...it really doesn't matter to me. If they die...again, no biggy. As long as I don't have a bunch of other players in the area who are chasing me, I'll usually offer to rez the person I kill. They can accept or not...no skin off my back either way. Do I kill mounts and pets? Yep. All the time? Not all the time, but some...what makes me do it? Depends on the day...it usually varies.

As far as doing it because someone hurt my feelings in the past? Sorry, but you are just making that up. It's untrue. :) ...la
