As much as I dislike insurance myself his idea does have merit, it's an idea that's actually been PROVEN to work, and when it was tried easily gained (and sustained) easily 3x ATL's current population.

Between the two rulesets Fel ruleset has by far the larger playerbase so it would make sense if UO were to survive to start catering a bit to that ruleset for once.

Those are free shards Raptor85, those are players EA lost a long time ago. They aren't about to come running back, credit cards in hand, regardless of what EA puts out. Why pay for what you can get for free, including better support and communication? This was the same trite line given during the classic shard debate. It didn't hold water then, it still doesn't now.

factor of why people leave is a huge debate in its self, i mean the game is what 15 years old? look at what u did 15 years and compare to now, people move on, peoples lives change, bigger better games come out look at WOW, all merv is trying to do put out an idea that could encourage players to come back or try something new in a shard.

people leave because for too many factors from loosing pets to bugs or dupes hacks, exploits , lack of content and so on so fourth.

imo free to play wouldn't do any harm, this has proven to work more ALOT of games, then you could go forward with adding "special" shards where it be pre AOS or an all fel shard.

It's not new though. We have this already in two unused flavors. The Fel that exists on every shard (has insurance), and on Siege (no insurance). We don't need a new all-Fel shard to know that people won't flock to it. This is where the logical disconnect is happening. We have this now. We know how its used. We know the end result. People voted with their feet 12 years ago, no matter how you spin it, no matter how much you love it, Fel lost.

F2P is a whole 'nother ball of wax that UO is not ready for. The Origin item store is woefully underwhelming, for one. Kinda need a large quantity of consumables and vanity items to turn a profit. Next there has to be some sort of pricing for scheme for housing, expansion content entitlement, etc. Money would have to be dumped into that endeavor, and a profit returned equal to or greater than the current subscriber system before EA threw any funds at new shards in questionable flavors.

even F2P will cost start-up money, just as another shard, or merging/converting would, all on "hopes" of it returning a profit. Probably putting some jobs and reputations on the line as well, I know I wouldn't. But I would look at "why didn't people like our game?" Why are they quitting? and proceed cautiously. The market is the play style already existing in people's minds, not something you can force on people by making clones or take it or leave it styles. People know what they like and dislike, it's up to the dev's to figure it out, then market to that, it's all a guessing game for them, least ways to be successful - over the years they've done pretty good, else UO would of ended after 3-5 yrs.

its not about fel lost... its about how a newly developed game lost its way of really dealing with the issues at hand, so in turn they made trammel. the real lose was AOS and everything after that.

ok Martyn, what would you prefer the devs to spend their precious 10 minutes doing?

Perhaps you'd prefer a new hue
