Cal-Ban GM's that give "Canned Responses"

I started playing UO just over 3 years ago. During the first 6 months or so of play I needed help from a GM twice. Both times there was a GM who replied to me and the problem was solved within minutes if not sooner!!! Yay!!

Since that time I have tried to contact a GM 2 or 3 times- and all I have gotten are the "canned responses" and that is after more than a two hour wait. None of the canned responses have yet to fit the problem that I had. On one incidence I had sent multiple requests to talk to a GM after I kept getting a "Canned Response" that did not fit my problem. After 6 plus hours- I gave up, and sent an issue report by email so that I could find the answer for my problem. I waited for days on end for a reply, when the email finally came thru, it was yet another "canned response" but this time by E-mail.

I see over and over in stratics, on how people cannot get a GM to help over the last couple years. Unless of course you get a lucky roll. I mean getting help should not depend on luck and hours and hours of waiting to get a web page thrown at you that has yet to help anyone.

Can we not have our own designated GM's for UO?? Someone that knows how UO is played? Someone that can speak English? Someone that can actually speak to the game player and see what IS the problem? I would think it would take a lot less time, and us the players would be much happier to boot. There has been a rash of players getting banned for things that GM's didn't even seem to understand. Why can't we ban GM's from UO who do nothing but send us unrelated web pages to our problems, and waist our valuable game time.

I was in cue #8 the last time I paged for a GM, after waiting two hours, I was still # 8 in cue. When I was rounding up on 2 hours and 45 minutes, (still in cue # 8) I suddenly get the infamous "canned response". That simply leads me to believe that the GM's are spending and waisting all their time looking up the closest to appropriate canned response they can find, or they are on a really long lunch and just keep pinging the "you are in cue #8 for help".

Granted this may be a little out of your department, not sure, but there is a definate problem between players of UO and support. Its one of the biggest complaints I see, and hear talked about, other than "Old Bugs" that just don't seem to get fixed... But, in having said that, if "we" the players, ever got a chance to actually talk to a GM they may have a better idea on what those bugs are and how to fix them!!!

I have seen a few people use the N-bomb in game over the last few days and none were even given warnings for the offense. So, I agree that customer service needs a bit of *guidance*. (this was on the atl shard btw for any EA ppl reading)

I mean getting help should not depend on luck

Especially since we all know luck in UO is HORRIBLY broken. :bdh:

Banning the bad apple, web site spammin, copy and paste, auto replyin' gm's sounds like a good plan tho. I still cling to the thought that some or a FEW of them actually care and will help. It's a fleeting thought, but still a thought

"During the first 6 months or so of play I needed help from a GM twice."

Tell us what your questions or problems were, maybe someone here might know the answer(s) and be able to help.

It is hard to judge if you really needed a GM to show up in person or if you just needed to go read the tos or the roc or some other general information that can be found online.

GMs get lots of pages from whackos, I know I have been that whacko a couple of times, :).

I had restarted playing WoW recently after a year and a half of not playing it and I got stuck in a hole in some mountains, which ticked me off to no end.

I don't have alot of patience left irl after raising 4 kids so I opened a ticket and said:

"I am stuck in a hole, I'd like you to come get me out but more importantly I'd like for you to FIX the hole so this doesn't happen again to me or to anybody else!"

I was determined to sit in that hole until a GM came and got me out. I waited about 5 minutes then thought I remembered something about a key that made you jump...

Oh yes, the space bar.

So I hit the space bar and jumped right out of that hole.

I canceled that ticket feeling a little embarrassed, lol.

:)

That is what GMs in all online games that have GMs have to deal with day in and day out I am sure.

Since Mythic moved to VA and left some CA GMs behind in CA I personally think UO's GM service has been pretty good.

What I want to know is what is gonna be done about people misbehaving in General Chat.

I tried reporting someone, but never could, because the abuse/Harrassment gump refused to accept that there was a character of that name on the shard (I even tried substituting capital "I" or "1" for the "l"s in the name, etc.) and since he was dropping the F-bomb about every 15-30 seconds on General chat, it's not like I could find him to target him.

Look at luna bank... That is where the ppl hang out as the drop the F bomb :gee:

Seriously though I think a few months ago if you page a GM about the GC chat and type in the number next to the person's name a GM can track it back to the person that way.

Same here. I am the type that RARELY reports anyone for words etc. The other night on Atlantic we had one in chat that crossed every line imaginable. N-bombs, F-bombs and every other bomb you can think of. Toon's name was something like I hate the black man or something like that. All I got was "you must target the offending individual and include the name of the character". Eventually after about 3 attempts I got a canned response basically telling me to ignore him via the chat. Whatever....

Meanwhile a couple years back I had a friend get banned for 24 hours because after killing a Meer Mage he emoted *R-words the still warm corpse* only he spelled out the "offensive" R-word. Boom, chick reports him and off to jail. Some stuff's just nuts, no rhyme nor reason to it.

Don't you think that's the first place I looked? It happened after we booted him from the closest house to the Luna moongate (an auction house on LA, where I'm staff), for disturbing the auction, and he started cursing the second he was far enough off screen to not be targetable.

I gave chase, and he was nowhere in Luna (though he still managed to curse at us and lots of other people for the next hour).

No variation of his name, or of the ID number from general chat, would work to page on, and it kept bouncing me out of the help system. Eventually I gave up.

The GM`s have bigger things to worry about than abusive language. Things sure have changed tho... Way back when a friend of mine had his accounts permabanned for referring to someone as a"black ass" after that person asked him if he was "a cracker @##$% (expletive for jewish)"...

Anyways if you have that much of a problem with the language either turn off chat, ignore it, or go apply at the FCC. Keep the queue clear for real problems.

think of. Toon's name was something

Thought I should mention, that the times I have tried to page for a GM were not over just trivial things... They were generally technical in nature, and I have never paged without trying to research the problem first. I try to keep current on reading the different websites available, they help tremendously, I also have guildmates and friends that have played for 8 years plus, and I will ask others in game that may be able to help. Now a days there is even the chat system available (although widely abused) I exhaust all of these resource before deciding to page a GM.

I also have not paged a GM over what others are or have been doing in game. If I don't like what they are saying or doing, I simply go about my business. So the point is, I am not a player that consistantly abuses the GM system because someone made me upset. I have and do use the report bug system, although I do not know if that has ever helped any. Also I would not mind waiting 2 or more hours for a GM if I could have simply talked to a GM to explain the situation, rather than be sent an unrelated website to refer to that does no good.

Actually you wouldn't know that, as GMs do not discuss their actions with players. The only way you'd know that is if you yourself knew the players and they divulged any information about it.

I think you both deserve the credit.
Well, this is a friend of mine, who was obviously frustrated by the inaction taken. And it is a sweet spot, not a Luna spot, but a sweet spot anyway :)
On Atlantic, my wife would be their neighbor *grins*

So the OP disappeared, I assumed logged off in disgust...

Now I don't want to start any heated arguments here about right and wrong, but what I had set out to do, having several accounts, (no, I ain't telling how many :p) was to take one and page and page about this issue. Till the GMs started getting that attitude with me in their responses.
THen go to account #2, and page and page with that account...
then #3, etc etc.

As it turned out, didn't have to go past account 1, the GM RNG blessed us :thumbup1:

But for future reference, patience, persistence, and downright bullheadedness ( and multiple accounts) tend to pay off if the pages are righteous, and not the gimme gimme gimme variety.

That's been my experience, anyway...
Yay Uriah Heep and GM Fiper, but really.... Should a player REALLY have to resort to this kind of tactics to get some help from what is so obviously a GM matter?

Now, nothing in the definition of CHARACTER fits the description of TOONS in MMORG's. Unless of course you think you are in a play or movie, and if that's the case ya got issues. However, definition of TOON?? It has several one of which is:

Avatar (computing), referring to the cartoon image of a player's digital avatar in MMORPGs

So it would seem TOON fits more than character. That definition hits the nail right on the head for what was described earlier as a TOON. Thanks for attempting to correct me, but next time break out a dictionary first. K? Thx.

10. a person represented in a drama, story, etc.
Et cetera applies to MMORPGS:

To whit:

Player Character, or PC, as opposed to Non-Player Character or NPC.

What's ironic is that you went through all that effort to provide the definition of character and glossed over the definition that fit, but failed to provide any definition at all for (also provided from dictionary.com):

toon
2    /tun/ Show Spelled[toon] Show IPA
–noun
( sometimes initial capital letter ) a character in an animated cartoon.
Origin:
1980–85; shortening of cartoon

Strange that while you claim the word "toon" fits your definition of it, there's absolutely no reference to it in the actual definition. "Toon" is slang. "Character" is not.

I would submit Et cetera as used in that paticular description does not elude to MMORG's. A person represented in a drama, story etc... IE, examples of other types of drama's and stories.

And wikipedia links? :lame:

Really? Never get your information from a website that ANYBODY can edit. That's like watching CNN and expecting to get real news or the truth.

Yes, toon is slang. It is slang for what I was describing. :wall:

UO guide is editable, so none of that is true either?

And obviously LB made the huge mistake calling by not calling them NPTs?

You people just cant come up with a new name for something and expect everyone to call it that. It just makes you sound like your 12.

This is UO not EQ, not WoW, not any of that hold my hand and show me the way BS that those games represent. There are no toons in UO.

Sorry OP, this is last comment I make on the off topic stuff ugh....

No, they did not make a mistake in calling them NPC's. Non Player - Character. They are indeed a person represented in a drama, story, etc. All NPC's have a specific role and must hold to the story arc of UO as a whole. Our TOONS do not have to hold to ANY story arc and therefore are not characters by any definition outlayed in my earlier post. They are merely carTOON representations the WE as players control. There are TOON's in UO... all over the place. Unless of course you think what you see on your computer screen is reality.

Again, my apologies to taking this off topic. No further OT posts by me. Debate amongst yourselves if you want. Or better yet, have a couple toons in game debate it. :thumbup1:
