Perhaps we can help with more info...

Not to be insulting, but just to confirm... Has the credit card expired?

If not, have you talked to customer service? support.ea.com for on-line chat or (866) 543-5435 for telephone support. Perhaps one of them can assist you?

I hope you do get it worked out.

Aroma, try calling 650-628-1001, the billings are being done in Austin, Tx, but they are limited right now to the EAMythic side because of the migration period still being worked out. You might be able to buy a 30 day game code with them. I know the game codes worked, I used one.

I am under the understanding that housing is not in a decay cycle at this time, from what I've read on uoherald.com site.

I swear folks, after 11 years not being billed TAXES on my 12.99 monthly subscription, and all the sudden now they want extra 0.91 cents, makes me want to just walk away from UO and not look back, (sometimes).

What CC type? Discover? I have heard some CC's are declined by the system. You need to stop and call the CS at the Origin line. Tell them of the cc trouble. Your house is safe till this billing fiasco is over and beleave you me its not over.

Call them explain in few words and make it clear that your card was excepted till just now.

The CS i talked to said hte system was giving them trouble on many fronts and from reading the Warhammer forum this is not a new problem.

I've been suggesting to players that contact me via IM with questions to immediately ask for someone who is familiar with the account migration issues for Ultima Online when they call.

So far that has worked and I'm really sorry to hear we're still experiencing issues. I've been emailing feedback from the forums and hope it helps a little at least.

I know it's frustrating even for those of us who have gotten past our own account issues because we want no one left behind.

Nope, their not giving out any more free game time. the lower lvl CS got a right roasting for giving so much out. now you just have to talk with Teir 3 CS and wait 3 days for each response.

Then at the end of it get told 'Tough luck'.

Just think about all of the people who don't read Stratics and just use the official websites.

EA has deliberately turned their backs on us and have basically washed their hands of this by keeping it all buried and letting/hoping customer service can handle it. There is nothing stopping Kai Schober from posting links to the tutorials on all three official websites (UO, Camelot, Warhammer) except somebody above him telling him not to post about it. It's not a matter of time either - he's active on the Warhammer forums, and he's the one that posts information on all three websites anyways, and they made the time and money available for him and others within Mythic to fly to Germany and then they flew a bunch out of Seattle. There is also nothing stopping the EA/Origin.com people in charge of accounts.eamythic.com from posting tutorials.

The EA CSR rep I ended up talking to said that her superiors were aware of all of the problems, but that they are not allowed to comment on them. I asked her if she knew that very panicked and stressed out people were posting all over the internet and she said she had talked to a lot of them.

People are going to read the official game websites and they are going to look at accounts.eamythic.com and and they are going to wonder about those "your account has been cancelled" emails that some get even with proper registration/CC info. They aren't going to understand the "_uo" thing either.

AirmidCecht, you and the others have probably kept a lot of people from quitting, and you obviously care more about the matter than EA and it's unfortunate that you all have to carry that burden. You all should not have to spend your time helping people who are freaking out or confused over billing information, you should just be able to spend your time talking about in-game matters.

I'm going to withhold my judgement on quitting until I see how things shake out over the next few months, but I know quite a few people who have either quit or just given up on things in the last month. I'm actually very surprised because some of these were people I thought would be around until the servers were turned off.

The developers don't have anything to do with this or gamemaster support. The UO Producer is the one who handles all this stuff, or was. Maybe he was even forced out over the whole account migration disaster. The timing fits and he didn't even post a goodbye message.

Cal had nothing to do with account migration. This was something EA was handling and it wasn't just UO that had this done. This was mentioned many times even by the devs (or dev to be more precise, Grimm had a nice long post on the matter). The only reason Cal would have been fired over the accounts migration would be a poor attempt by EA to try and place all the blame on someone else. Of course there is no mention by EA over the migration.

As I also pointed out ...
every fricking penny at >this point< COUNTS

EVEN those 120 days a pop ones ...
>THEY ADD in to keep % UP<
THIS %
But as games get replaced with newer titles, the number of players still enjoying the older games dwindles to a level -- fewer than 1% of all peak online players across all EA titles -- where it’s no longer feasible to continue the behind-the-scenes work involved with keeping these games up and running. We would rather our hard-working engineering and IT staff focus on keeping a positive experience for the other 99% of customers playing our more popular games.

waddayaTHINK our % IS?

That's what sums up the whole issue - the public silence. Although not even mentioning the "_uo" (or the WAR or DAOC variants) on the main account website is so many shades of ******** I'm not sure where to begin. EA managed to top themselves on that one. How many CSR hours have been wasted on telling people the "_uo" thing and how many players have been freaked out over something so incredibly simple?

EA is somewhat talking about the migration - the executives are bragging that they now have 130 million accounts running through Origin.com and using that to try to entice third party companies to sign on with Origin.com. Now how many of those 130 million accounts could actually be accessed right now by their owners.... :lick:

I believe those 130 million accounts would probably be more likely 1.3 million at most... or more likely 130 thousand. EA isnt well liked and is certainly not respected, and who can blame the comsumers? EA's track histroy of customer support is disgusting, it really dosnt pay to be a paying customer to EA.

The complete lack of interest from anyone offical now is starting to make me feel jumpy. I am horrified that no-one offical is commenting or trying to calm everyone down.

I'm disgusted with EA's handling (again, but then why am I surprised that they cant do anything without botching it) of this situation, but I'm more disapointed that Mythic hasnt bothered to post updates or kept everyone informed. Its almost as if they are making a point of pushing UO players away... Dare I begin to wonder if they are doing this so that they can can the game? Its certainly starting to smell like it.

[EDIT[ - By offical btw, I mean putting up a notice on UOHerald.com about known issues and whats being done to correct then. Also information about how to contact Mythic about issues so that they can get fixed without too much distress to the customer (Who at the end of the day are paying for something that many are not getting. Its not about closing ranks or a wall of silence. Its about looking like they care about thier customers. No point in denying any issues exist, they do and the public knows about it so admit it, show you've got the will to correct the wrongs and calm those people down who are concerned/worried and now.. angry.) If Kai can post on DoAC and WO and keep people there reasonably calm, then why cant he post on our UOHerald, or for that matter why cant any DEV post on UOHerald and let the wider range of players know whats going on and how to rectify it.

You say that, but people flock to EA games - just in the past few weeks, EA and Facebook are claiming 30 million people tried Sims Social and 9 million are actively playing it and those are probably driven through Origin.com since it has the Facebook integration. Battlefield 3, Star Wars The Old Republic, those have some incredibly insane fanboy followings. For me, the Battlefield series peaked at Battlefield 1942, but there are people sweating it out over whether they should drop a lot of money to upgrade their PCs, etc. There will be millions picking up Battlefield 3 next month - pre-orders are well ahead of Battlefield 2.

And don't get me started on EA Sports, there are a helluva lot of people who keep buying those games. They could stop developing the game engines and keep the games the way they are and just swap out jerseys and names on the players, and those things would still sell like crazy.

And EA is claiming to have 4 million Origin client installs (helped by the Origin client being installed by default on some of the newer games ).

All of the bad crap that EA does gets glossed over by the crappy Sims and sports games that people can't seem to get enough of, plus Battlefield, Star Wars, Need for Speed, the shovelware they churn out for consoles, etc.

Just for some relevant numbers:
EA is the biggest publisher in North America and Europe.
Portal 2, Dead Space 2, Dragon Age 2 all sold 2 million copies
Crysis 2 sold 3 million
FIFA 11 sold 15 million copies
Battlefield Bad Company 2 sold 9 million copies

That's over 30 million between just those games and each one of those games that had some kind of online access or registration were either already migrated to Origin or will be - the Steam stuff is supposed to have been pulled from Steam and in the process of migration.

Now throw in PopCap Games that EA spent $750 million on and that could easily account for many many tens of millions of Origin.com accounts.

It's not hard to see the numbers adding up.

I actually have to stand up for Cal on this one.
It's more likley that he was 'moved on' due to the fact he complaind to the EA bosses over the handling on migration, possibly even threatened to tell us that it was all EA's fault and nothing to do with the Devs.

As we all know as soon as you stand upto the higher powers in EA, your not long in a job afterwards.

I harbour no ill-will to the devs, i know they have a really hard time trying to keep everyone happy when everyone is passionate about their own little niche of the game and i really didn't think after 10+ years i'd be leaving the game because EA wouldn't take my money. I really didn't see that one coming lol.

Hopefully i'll be back in December, just a shame i'm gonna miss all the best events while i can't play. CuB, Halloween, Fall ect.

Oh and if Messana is listening, Don't take the job if they offer it you, we can't afford to lose you too ;)

He has to quit due to EA's new billing system not accepting his credit card information. He isn't quitting necessarily because he wants to. Please, if you are going to contribute to a thread, the very least you can do is understand the context it.

Calvin and I have had our differences over the years; on the other hand, whether or not I agree with his follow-through on some items, he was definitely communicative on a level that few devs have had.

Perhaps — and only Cal can tell us for certain — but perhaps the reason he left is because the game he was in charge of was being put through unnecessary hurdles for the sake of being compacted into a singular system, and his hands were tied with regard to how everything was handled.

Perhaps he left because of the way this was all being handled.

It's hard to say without input from him, but I suspect that perhaps this was the straw that broke the broken camel's back.

No offense, but the old line of "it's a computer online game" is exactly why EA gets away with such mediocre performance time and again. For whatever reason, UO players largely (those that remain, especially) have come to accept lackluster service such that it's a norm now.

And why?

Because "it's only a game."

Gotta be honest... if the movies I went to performed like UO is right now, I'd be asking for my money back from every sitting.

Except, of course, that if the movies were working like UO, I'd be standing in line for 48 hours only to get to the ticket booth and find out that they had no idea how to process my credit card; I'd give up, go to an advanced ticket machine, purchase the ticket, walk up to go in, and find out they currently cannot accept ticket codes purchased in that manner; when I finally got someone to take my money, I'd walk inside only to discover that the theater no longer had a concession stand and that my movie was playing in a cardboard box down in aisle three; when all of that was said and done, the projector would break down for what I thought was Star Wars Episode IV in 3D only to discover that it was a bunch of sock puppets punching me in the face; and on my way out, you better believe I'd get my money back. :p

Right... well, and that's exactly why EA should expect a bunch of reversed charges from smart folk... because if they've paid for access to something they can't access due to errors on the part of the company they've paid for service, it's perfectly legal to request (aka: demand) a refund.

btw ... how >many< movies would you keep going to: to ask for your money ??
Is It >the Chain<? or >the movies<?
Okay, okay, let's not over analyze the analogy — the point is plain and simple: If you pay money for a service, whether that service is a game or keeping up your multi-million-dollar internet infrastructure, there's a level of expected quality for the service being provided. If you go to a movie and the sound keeps cutting out, you better believe that not only are you due a refund, you'll get it. If you pay for internet service and that service cuts out, you're legally due at least a prorated refund for the service you have not been able to use. If you pay for an online game and are unable to access it because the game is in a state that you cannot even log into it, yes, you're entitled to a refund.

They can say that they're not responsible for it all they want. It's like those signs in the parking lots of grocery stores saying that they're not responsible for nicks and bangs caused to your car by unattended carts: whether they want to be or not, the are responsible for them.

:talktothehand: I know ... just fleshing out the analogy ...
*ahem* do you have to show your ID? ..............................:danceb:

since 'they' can't get in either, with my limited experience of migrations, sounds like locked records from another process that was running and they have to now manually release each one (not CS - the 3rd party application company). but there's probably a Lot of them.

**WARNING** Doom/naysayer type post follows...

Anyone paused to consider that with so many account issues, actually now forcing people to leave, who otherwise might have just hung on and kept paying...

...this may be the bell finally tolling?

Just seems to me there's a little too much coincidence going on here. Producer quits/fired/"moved on" (who knows...), Chinese UO production gathering pace and not too far from release, RG wanting to reprise Lord British with a UO themed game (perhaps for US, Europe, Oceania release, if the Asian market rights exclusivity is sold to NetDragon?).

Conspiricy or no, it's yet another cluster-f... by our good friends at EA Games.

When I finally quit a year ago, amongst a few other things I'd become dissatisfied with, probably the biggest single factor was the extremely poor customer service. I always believed they were more than happy to take my money, but far from happy to offer any genuine support or customer "service", which incidentally, is part of the package you pay for. Indeed, when the prices increased a few years back, it was claimed some of this was going towards improving customer service, was it not?

Really can't say I blame anyone who's leaving thanks to this awful situation and cock up with accounts. It really beggers belief that things have reached such a state, that people can't even give them their money to play the game...

Still, all is not lost. There will likely always be player run shards out there, to suit every style of play, long after the EA plug has been pulled.
