Many people here concur that the destruction of Magincia event was one of, if not the, best events ever in UO. Demon infestation from Chaos Daemons to blackrock infected Dark Fathers brought a smile to many faces, and grey screens to many more. There was something for just about everyone in this event and we'd like to see a return of it in the upcoming Magincia rebuild.

We'd also like to see our beloved blackrock infecting returned. I'm not speaking of our characters being infected, but the ability to infect random creatures by carrying a piece of blackrock in our backpacks. For me, that was one of the best additions ever in UO, and it was removed from the game for no apparent good reason. We now have weapons that were introduced during the Magincia event that don't do what they're supposed to, such as the Berserker Scythe, which is supposed to randomly infect the creature you're fighting with blackrock disease. The Staff of Pyros which randomly lays down a line of burning flames. Then there's the Vorpal Blade, which supposedly was supposed to randomly blackhole your opponent, although no one has ever seen it happen.

We want these things back. Please make it happen. I mean, who wouldn't love to log in to see this every day? -

I concur. I had the most fun with this event also. I missed most of the blackrock stuff but I would love to have it back. And I would like to log on everyday to see that ;).

*Edit- Perhaps we can have the same type of event in another city? Umbra? (Shadow tile rubble would be cool :p) Trinsic? Britain? :). Anywhere would work really, I just had such a great time beating up demons lol.

if you want to fight tough monsters go run doom?

It is very unpopulated and the critters there can still make your screen go grey.

we dont need more items.

we need a better loot system as a whole and tougher monsters.

Just like the event about to happen on saturday on Atl were pets are not advised.

I tend to disagree with bringing back the Magincia event....

I didn't like it... For someone role-playing good.... it was impossible to stop the horror that was unfolding. Getting bitched at in-game and being called everything under the sun for leading those demons away from town was aggravating enough.... but watching the looting and the destruction of a key RP city was also frustrating...... I want it rebuilt.... and I think it's high time it is..

NOW .... on that same note.... I did however enjoy the ability to "blackrock" infect monsters.... and well almost anything... I do NOT understand why this aspect was removed... I mean really we can still mine up blackrock.... we can still carry blackrock..... and we can still cast Armageddon on a piece of blackrock..... so WHY can't we still infect things with it? I had some of the most fun taking the fella's down to the Ancient Wyrms lair in Destard and fighting the blackrock infected Ancient... And it was fun to gather the boxes... it was a bonus to those brave enough to carry blackrock. Which I still do.

That's my opinion.... and no we do not need to destroy another town for more rubble.

I hate events that are supposedly for fun that pit good against evil but give no bonus for doing the right thing.... because it would seem to me far more people are only interested in their own greed than in virtue... And most of these events promoted greed rather than Virtue.

I'd much prefer events that promoted Virtue and Community than Greed and Selfishness. I think there is MORE than enough Greed and Selfishness in the game already.

I didn't say we needed to bring back the destruction part of the event. In fact, I specifically brought up the rebuilding of Magincia that is upcoming. I'd just like to have something similar to that invasion. There were more dynamics in that event than in any other I've participated in, along with multiple "things" going on. There wasn't just a bunch of monsters that needed to be mindlessly beaten down, there were different goals to achieve depending on what you were doing. For example, if you wanted some of the daemon blood tiles that were up near the gate you had to brave the mass of demons surrounding it. The Light and Chaos daemons each had their own unique reward. Berserker Daemons had it's own reward. Random drops were also a part of the Bone Daemon (can't remember what it was called during the event). There was also the rubble, which we won't have in the upcoming event since it's a rebuild and not a destruction, along with blackrock infection tossing in some really nasty curve balls on us.

As far as you not liking the destruction of Magincia, it was part of the original Ultima series, so you'll need to take that up with Mr. Garriot. The Devs just went along with what happened in the original.

I wish they would bring back the Haven event where you could hand in blackrock and get a chance at Runic hammers, Ash Hammers and random Tokuno minor's/majors.

I didn't hand in all my blackrock at that even and I should have. The story line led you to believe you should not give in to evil and be better rewarded later.

2 years later and there is no better use for blackrock

What if we could combine pieces of blackrock to make Obsidian Pillar replicas? LIke 1,000 stones worth made a replica? That would be useful.

Well, remember we had to have the blackrock to cast the armegedon spell to defeat the Shadow Lords. I still have a few peices of black rock left too. I wouldn't mind another spring cleanup event as I have a bunch of Virture armor taking up lockdowns in my house.

Nope. When I say "we", I'm referring to many of us that had a blast at Magincia, and wish we would have more events like that.

I too loved the Blackrock and Maginica invasion events.

I had hoped the Void Daemon and the Light Daemon would become permenant additions with SA expansion. (HINT HINT Devs :D )

I loved being able to blackrock infect stuff. We had quite a laugh one night courtesty of a Lvl 6 t-map chest that kept spitting out Ancient Wryms the last of which was blackrock infected. OMG you've never seen 1 t-hunter and 2 tamers running around, dying all over and blaming each other for blackrock infecting that thing. We look like a UO version of the keystone cops. It was hilarious!

I had many days that my sole goal was to find something new to infect. All of my characters carried a piece on them at all times, especially during events. It may have pissed some people off to all of a sudden have some superpowered monster beating them down, but I was after every one I could find, and was always there to help out when it happened. One of my best boxes came from the invasion that brought the Dread Warhorses. I infected a Dark Guardian and got a box from it, which was not possible other than in that invasion since they blocked Doom from infection. I infected so many Dark Wisps in alternate Moonglow that I lost count. Those were always fun to fight. Those nasty infected Fallen Warriors were always fun too. They caused many a dirtnap, but it was all worth it in the end. :gee:

Yes I would like something "epic" going on..... but I prefer having something going on that we can actually participate in ..... in a GOOD way.... Not helping evil along...

And I very very much miss blackrock infecting things.... have NO idea why that aspect was turned off.... I see no harm in it... was like having paragons in Tram. Was nice.

I like the invasions with the Generals and all that ... and that cool colored armor..... was entertaining.

And it would be nice to have something to "focus" my attention on....

However.... the BIGGEST problem with doing these invasions is... if you don't have something "drop" that's super uber cool or "rare".... no one will do them. And if you do have something drop that is super uber cool or "rare"..... then it's only adding to the sickening itemization that AoS brought in.... that and good gods I'm running out of lockdown space.

Then I'd suggest you do as I did. Go through your house and anything that you haven't touched in 6 months or more either gets sold on a vendor, recycled into resources, or tossed in the trash can. I've got 1400-1500 storage available in my house now, and never worry about storage space, even when someone gives me 5-10k bods. It's amazing how much garbage we hang on to, some of it we even forget we have.

I only participated in the Magincia destruction event in the first day or two. I was so disgusted by the way people were acting that I couldn't stand to go back. I've more than had my fill of events that only serve to bring out the worst in many people, e.g., people luring crud onto you to prevent you from getting somewhere or killing something they want. It's also very disheartening to find out after the event that many of the people that you thought you were helping by giving them a rez or throwing a heal their way were only at the event to collect stuff and then sell it off for millions in gold or even RL cash. They could have cared less about returning the favor or helping anyone else.

I wouldn't necessarily mind seeing a return of blackrock infections. What I do not want to see is the return of blackrock elementals while mining. I hated having those things spawn in an area full of houses and then having no choice but to walk away and leave the nasty thing on someone's doorstep. As empty as most shards are these days, though, I guess it wouldn't really matter if they came back. There's hardly anyone left around anymore for them to bother.

When the blackrock turn-in event happened, I held onto the few pieces of blackrock I had at the time, waiting to find out if they would have some other purpose. Felt pretty foolish when it became apparent that once again, the developers set things up to reward players' baser instincts.

What I really wish EA would do is provide events where the entire community on a shard earns a reward whose worth is based on the collective efforts of everyone who participates in the event. For example, why couldn't the attempt to get people to start using the Brit bank again have been structured so that a whole range of amenities to spiff up the bank was available and what your shard actually ended up with depended on how well your shard did with completing some mission such as defeating an invasion and/or completing some quests? That way no one person or group of people walked off with items that would just end up being locked up in someone's dusty old museum or cluttered bank box or even transferred off the shard, but instead would be out in the open and available for EVERYONE to enjoy and appreciate for years to come. Just once, I'd like for EA to provide an event where everyone walks away empty-handed but still feeling like the time they spent playing and the money they paid to have that time in the game weren't a complete waste.

Eh, who am I trying to fool? UO's just a game and will always be "just a game." Trying to wring anything meaningful out of it is just a deluded waste of time.

I'd like to see Magincia put back to the way it was.

Then again, I'd like to see the entire game put back to the way it was.

The last thing this game needs is yet another event that drives horders into a frenzy to collect some additional pieces of worthless pixel garbage.

How about an event that has no items as a reward? Something that actually forces people to work together instead of seeing who can grab the most "rare" crap?

Seems to me that the original Magincia event had drops that were far from worthless. Cursed arties, special weps unique to several different monsters, rubble items, and more, all came from Magincia. If you don't want any "additional pieces of worthless pixel garbage" then you're more than welcome to not participate in any more UO events. You can go beat on dragons or daemons to your hearts content while the rest of us are having fun with the various events.

Show me an event that has no rewards for participating, and I'll show you an event that will look like no one plays UO, because there will be very few, if any, people participating in it. Like it or not, people need a reason to do something. If there is no reason to participate in an event, then no one will.

Well.....

...except you maybe. I hope you have fun with that.

The sad thing is, there used to be a time when people played this game for fun...not to see how much crap they could collect. But you have fun with whatever it is that drives you.

And oh, to stay on topic...I would like to see Magincia put back like it was.

I had a blast at the Magincia event, and I rarely crossed the line and ventured into the city.

I've rewritten this post more than I care to.

Yes there were the selfish peeps that were only there for themselves.
But there were also many others who had a blast role playing. Handed out bandies at the docks. Fed and rezzed the warriors. Cheered on the cannoniers who blasted the beasties to dust when they ventured too close to the docks. Crafters stood at the docks and repaired armor.

I saw many people giving away weapon and rubble drops to others who couldn't win the attention of the RNG gods. The cursed arties were something a player who couldn't venture to Doom appreciated.

The only down side I saw to the event was the people who wanted to save the city and never could...many started out that way. But it was obvious the Devs never intended for the city to be saved.

There were many well attended events during that whole arch that had no or little rewards that were well attended.

The Ophidians invading our cities...we drove them out and our only reward was their departure.
The Void in Ilshenar....god what a death march!!!
We knocked him and his minions off..and no reward except his death was dropped that I can remember.

These and others all took an organized concerted effort on the players parts for little or no rewards. Our victory was cheered to the skies. With shards competing to see who conquored them first.

Dark hued glasses can be as bad as rose colored glasses. If you only look for the dark side that is all you will see.

So you have nothing but crap to say? :gee:

If you don't like items, fine, feel free to drop any and all event items you get on the ground. That doesn't mean that a very large number of us didn't have a blast at Magincia, and wouldn't love to have a similar event for the rebuild. You don't have to participate you know.

See, I see it as good for RP.
Sometimes evil just wins.
Getting bitched at and all isn't great, but you can just consider those folk as agents of evil or whatnot.
I had a great time RPing around Magincia, and the loss of the city was an awesome RP hook.

Blackrock infection of monsters... I could go for that.
Though I didn't entirely enjoy my crafter being chased by steroid-chickens.

Rebuild New Magincia (Don't need another round of deamons)

Bring back Blackrock infestations (Gave a new dynamic to PvM)

Give Small Blackrock an actual use or turn them off from mining (What was once such a rare and feared ingame fiction item is now left littering the ground around mountains and at banks... doesn't that seem a little strange?)

Fix Abyss spawns (Cavern of the Discareded definitely, fix locations that get creatures stuck underground or down the sides of inaccessible cliffs)

Finish the EC (Including a high resolution option)

Zephenia <Cirno> When does the rebuilding start on Magincia?

Uriah On the rebuilding of Magincia ... we've actually outlined the story arc for the live event through December of this year. Magincia is part of that plan.

Uriah In the short term, we are going to introduce some old and new major villians in the interim. Look forward to the next supplement to the story by the next publish.

They should bring back the actual town. It was an awesome place to fight...

I miss it...

They should have done that event in another town, one that was used less. Like Njelum or Ocollo.

The town invasion events were fun too and now I wish I had more 35 - 40ssi bows from it

The magincia event was fun too

Crystalline blackrock is an imbuing ingredient and is used to make Abyssal cloth. AFIK, regular blackrock isn't currently used in any craftable item.

The above is true, except that there is indeed a place in the fel ruleset where having blackrock in your pack is very very useful.
